Follow the money: Boston's Insta-fueled cash hunt
For
But Beumee also sees something deeper at play; a current of economic anxiety, if you will. A New York City transplant, she quickly noticed the refrain that there's nothing to do in Boston that's affordable. People would comment on her social media posts: 'I leave my apartment and I'm spending $100 a day,' she told me. In response, she launched her $20 challenge online.

'I explore different neighborhoods in and around Boston and spend $20 or less because there's actually a lot to do,' Beumee said. 'You can pair a free thing and then try out this restaurant. Or if you use your Massachusetts license or your library card, you can get a discount on a ticket. I've done Fenway, Charlestown, Beacon Hill, and Harvard Square, and spent $20 or less.'
Free-cash accounts, she said, are masters of serial content, and their success is a reflection of how audiences consume entertainment or recreational content nowadays. 'It's an easy engagement hack,' Beumee said. 'Serial content is one of the most strategic and easiest ways to grow. Social media is becoming Netflix for some people. They [follow] these accounts and creators that they view as characters.' It's the equivalent of a reality TV show but on Instagram.
Eventually, Beumee theorized, once these accounts have garnered a big enough public — Find the Cash Boston currently has 164,000 followers — they could partner with brands, like doing a cash drop at a pop-up or event to get people in the door. 'The initial $100 [giveaway] is an investment in building an audience.'
The appeal of 'Find the Cash' is obvious — what's not to like about free money? Beyond the scramble for cash, it also perfectly captures the current moment: Money is tight, attention is currency, and entertainment often comes in the form of public spectacle.

23 Shallow Reasons People Won't Date Someone
Recently, Reddit user buboop61814 asked, "What's the pettiest reason you wouldn't be with someone?" People had A LOT to say — the post had over 4,400 comments! Here are some of the best and most interesting replies: "I would never date anyone with an outie belly button." —keeziia "I broke up with a little hippie girl because she always had dirty feet. She never wore shoes. I regretted it the rest of college." "They don't know the difference between 'your' and 'you're.'" "If they're REALLY into Phish." —bnovi "If they're a super slow walker. I can't do it." "The way she said my name didn't feel right. Like, the emphasis was on the wrong syllable, and it just bothered me." "I once ended things with someone who was otherwise very nice and compatible because her voice was cartoonishly high, and it grated on me terribly. No regrets, but I felt a little like a Seinfeld character." —CanaryPast8599 "If their phone is always at 3%, and they just don't care. You're too chaotic for my peace." "Guys who always have only 1/8 a tank of gas in their car and are fine with it. 😳" "If their name is Andrew. I already know too many Andrews. I simply cannot add another to the list." —CreatureMacKay "The way she texted. She would send message after message, and they easily could have been just one or two texts. Almost every word was sent as a separate message." "If they follow a bunch of Instagram models or influencers, I'm out." "If they have the same first name as a close relative. Just no." "I once broke up with a man because he drank an excessive amount of soda and left the empty cans IN THE SHOWER. Why was he going through 5-7 cans of various sodas per day — exclusively in the shower? Couldn't be for any normal reason. I noped out of there." "They refused to buy toilet paper and bought paper towels for wiping instead. No thanks." "I broke up with a guy because he was 6'8 and had big feet. I just couldn't imagine laying in bed with him and seeing his big feet towering under the blankets." —Marianne0819 "When I was in eighth grade, I broke up with my girlfriend because she kissed her dog on the mouth. She cried." "If they drive around the parking lot outside a store for 10 minutes looking for the closest space. It takes everything in me not to pitch the biggest hissy fit." "He grunted like a hog when he finished." "I actually broke up with someone because she didn't know what a verb is. We were playing Mad Libs, and when I asked her to give me a verb she said, 'what's a verb?' So I ended it." —Jackpot777 "If they have way more energy than me." "Chewing with their mouth open." And finally, this person broke up with a guy because "the dude had a DOLPHIN LAUGH!" H/T r/AskReddit

TV Review: NAUTILUS Episode 9, ‘Ride of the Valkyrie'
It's the penultimate episode of AMC's Nautilus Season 1, and the fun continues. For the viewer, anyway. The poor crew has really gone through the wringer in this series, and Episode 9 is no different. I'm a little upset that AMC decided to drop the last two episodes of the season together. 'Ride of the Valkyrie' is the series's most exciting episode yet. It deserves to be savored for a while. Nautilus, Episode 9, 'Ride of the Valkyrie' Captain Nemo (Shazad Latif) has had a secret mission from the moment he commandeered the Nautilus – to find the lost treasure in the Pillars of Halvar. Now that he's got the rest of the crew's buy-in (read, they had little choice, and then he won them over because he has a big heart), the Nautilus races to its destination. RELATED: Read our review of the previous Nautilus episode, 'The Tipping Point' But of course, where there's a rumor of lost treasure, there is peril afoot. In Episode 9 of Nautilus , 'Ride of the Valkyrie,' the crew has to navigate ominous omens as they come ever closer to fulfilling their mission. The Pillars of Halvar do not actually exist (as per my Google search), which means the creative team had carte blanche to imagine the location from scratch. And they do a smashing job. It's spooky and majestic, without looking too clean and modern. The look of this area is a good foil to the steampunkness of the Nautilus. A Real Ensemble 'Ride of the Valkyrie' finally does what Nautilus should have done from the premiere – embraced being a true ensemble. This episode is extremely enjoyable because we get to see the entire crew work together for a prolonged period of time. RELATED: We Ardently Admire This First Look at Netflix's Pride and Prejudice Limited Series I'm never not going to complain about how the supporting cast deserves more screen time. And now that Nautilus is giving them that time and fleshing out their backstories, I'm wishing even more that the story had started that way. Now, I will admit that the ensemble nature of the story means Nemo and Humility Lucas's (Georgia Food) dynamic has taken a back seat. But both Latif and Flood convey plenty with quick glances and meaningful expressions. RELATED: August's Most Anticipated Video Games So, really, having more of the rest of the cast, who really have no right to be written and performed with such extravagant personalities, is a win for everyone. Did it have to come this late in the season? Amping It Up Almost every episode of Nautilus surprises me in some way. I've mentioned before that the show is rife with tropes, but it makes these work through sheer charm. 'Ride of the Valkyrie' also includes some story cliches, but you will find yourself laughing through them because this cast brings a natural yet unique personality to each character. They're so fun to watch, and their comedic timing is so on point, you can't help but love them. RELATED: Anne Rice's Talamasca Casts New Series Regular Fun aside, this episode is the culmination of Nemo's journey from enigmatic and problematic leader to a friend of his crew. The show writers continue to do a stellar job at interweaving the emotional stakes into the comedy. But what I particularly loved about Episode 9 was the action set piece. We haven't seen anything like it so far on Nautilus , and it is perfectly shot. Great pacing and editing; it drags the audience into the fray, but never confuses the viewer. No better time than the penultimate episode to pull out all the stops, and the Nautilus creators certainly know how to do it right. RELATED: Read our Nautilus reviews There's one episode left in the season. Everything the Nautilus crew has suffered, sacrificed, and strived for leads to this. How does a crew of escapees win against the might of the East India Mercantile Company? Nautilus is available on AMC and AMC+.
