Cecily Strong shows off baby bump at 'SNL 50,' plays pregnant 'Weekend Update' character

USA Today17-02-2025
Cecily Strong has returned to 30 Rock, this time with a baby on the way.
The former "Saturday Night Live" star, who is pregnant with her first child, returned to the NBC sketch show for its 50th anniversary special on Sunday. Strong, 41, showed off her baby bump on the red carpet, where she rocked a black dress.
She later appeared on "Weekend Update," and her pregnancy was incorporated into the sketch. The "Schmigadoon!" star reprised her character of the "girl you wish you hadn't started a conversation with at a party," who was rubbing her belly as her segment began and asked, "Notice something different about me?" When "Weekend Update" anchor Michael Che asked if she was pregnant, she shot back, "Wow, you just assume I'm pregnant, just because I have a baby inside me?"
Strong's character wondered out loud if she really wanted to "bring a baby into this world" or if she should "keep her in here for another three-and-a-half years."

The segment then revealed the father of the child was none other than Drunk Uncle, the "Weekend Update" character played by Bobby Moynihan. Colin Jost expressed surprise that Drunk Uncle was going to be a dad, to which he replied, "Hey, if Alec Baldwin can do it."
SNL 50' bringsback 'Black Jeopardy!' with Eddie Murphy and Tom Hanks
Strong, who was a cast member on "SNL" from 2012 to 2022, announced in November that she was "very happily pregnant from IVF at 40." In an Instagram post, she said she was "really really hopeful" about getting to meet her "little miss thing" in the spring.
The comedian tied her pregnancy announcement to the November presidential election, which at the time was only a few days away. She wore a "pregnant, pro-choice and proud" shirt in the photo she posted.
"It's kind of insane and scary to disclose all of this," Strong wrote. "But for me - it's much scarier to think about what could happen after Tuesday's election. I currently live in a state where I will be able to receive all the healthcare I may possibly need. But we won't be safe anywhere in the US if there is (a) national ban like the one promised by Project 2025."
Strong joined a long list of "SNL" stars who returned for the star-studded 50th anniversary special. The "Weekend Update" segment also included Bill Murray, who ranked "Update" anchors from worst to best.
"I have to disqualify myself because my entire time here, I was on performance-enhancing drugs," he joked.

Singer Tamar Braxton reveals she 'almost died' after bloody facial injury

Tamar Braxton is coping with a recent health scare. The "Celebrity Big Brother" winner, 48, took to her Instagram story on Aug. 19 to share that she'd broken her nose, lost "some teeth" and experienced impaired mobility over the weekend. "I struggled to write this but everyone keeps calling me and honestly, I can't even really talk anymore I'm so weak," she wrote. "I almost died Sunday. I was found in a pool of blood from my friend with a face injury," she wrote." "As the days go by the worse it is," she continued. 'I fractured my nose, lost some teeth and mobility. The way I look at life now is totally different. As my health is on the mend my mental journey begins.. pray for me for real. I don't even know what happened to me.' USA TODAY has reached out to Braxton's representative for comment. Braxton, who hosts MTV's "Caught in the Act: Double Life," has a history of being open about her physical and mental struggles. As she competed on Season 21 of "Dancing with the Stars" in 2015, Braxton had to drop out of the competition after being hospitalized. What she'd thought was pneumonia was diagnosed as blood clots in her lungs. Years later, she spoke out against "toxic" forces in the television industry in 2020. After nearly a decade of starring on We TV's "Braxton Family Values" alongside her mother Evelyn and sisters, — Toni, Traci, Towanda, and Trina Braxton — she claimed she was "betrayed, taken advantage of, overworked, and underpaid." Braxton also mentioned her "cry for help" went unheeded, and she survived a suicide attempt. Soon after she made her story public, We TV said it would "honor her request to end all future work for the network." If you or someone you know may be struggling with suicidal thoughts, you can call or text 988 or chat online any time of day. The Jonas Brothers' Kids: All About Nick, Kevin, & Joe's Families

The Jonas Brothers are celebrating 20 years as a professional band in 2025, and they aren't slowing down even a little bit. They just kicked off their Jonas20: Greetings from Your Hometown Tour and are the inaugural guests on Songs & Stories with Kelly Clarkson, a new four-episode-long NBC special hosted by Clarkson in which she sings and has candid discussions with popular artists about their careers. RELATED: Joe, Nick, and Kevin Jonas have been around the career block, both as a band and solo artists. They've toured the globe multiple times, released seven albums as the Jonas Brothers, and have appeared as themselves in countless film and television projects. (Nick also acts!) Even with their multitude of pursuits, in 2025, it's safe to say they're all firmly committed to their parenting chapters too, as each brother has officially added 'dad' to their list of responsibilities. Read more about the Jonas Brothers' families, below: Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra In December 2018, Nick married actress Priyanka Chopra at the Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur. And since then, professionally, the pair collaborate regularly on projects as producers and performers. However, their greatest collaboration came in 2022 with the birth of their daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas via surrogate. In a recent episode of Mythic Kitchen with the three brothers, Nick told host Chef Josh Scherer that having a child has made him more focused on building something his daughter will be proud of. RELATED: 'You're met with this reality that this little human being will depend on you at least until they're 18, hopefully, for the rest of their life. And that responsibility is a profound thing,' he explained. 'Prior to that, I think I was just focused on sort of benchmarks of success, or perceived benchmarks of success. And now I have a more tangible thing to base my decision-making off of. And everything is better too once you are doing it for that reason and you get to experience life again through the eyes of a child." Joe Jonas Joe Jonas shares two daughters with ex Sophie Turner, Willa and Delphine. On the Jonas Brothers episode of Amy Poehler's podcast Good Hang, Joe said he's gotten to really understand how hard his own mom had it parenting four boys. 'Boys are so different than girls,' he said. 'I'll watch my kids on the playground and it's, like, delicate. And then this kid will be like, 'Ahh!' And dive off the top of the slide. And you're just like, 'That is a boy.'" Kevin Jonas and Danielle Deleasa This December, Kevin and Danielle celebrate 16 years of marriage. Kevin was the first of the trio to tie the knot. They have put down roots in the Jonas' birth state of New Jersey, where they live with their two young daughters, Alena Rose and Valentina Angelina. Kevin was also the first of the brothers to become a dad. He and Danielle have released two children's books together, There's a Rock Concert in My Bedroom and There's a Beach in My Bedroom; the former was inspired by their daughters. "Now our daughters, Alena and Valentina, enrich our lives in ways we could have never anticipated," Kevin told People in September 2021. "The love and care they show each other on a daily basis inspired this story and we are so proud to share how these girls not only uplift us and each other, but are creative, caring rock stars in their own right." Songs & Stories With Kelly Clarkson premieres August 19 at 10/9c on NBC. Subsequent one-hour episodes air August 26, September 2, and September 9 on NBC. All four episodes will be available to stream on Peacock the day after they air. Solve the daily Crossword

Kelly Clarkson Returns to Instagram 12 Days After Ex's Death

Kelly Clarkson Returns to Instagram 12 Days After Ex's Death originally appeared on Parade. Kelly Clarkson returned to Instagram — unofficially — on Aug. 19. She — or someone on her team — took to her Instagram Stories to share a promo for a new series that will begin airing tonight. "Tonight's the night," read a message added to the promo. This is the first time that Clarkson's social media has been active since the tragic death of her ex-husband — and the father of her two children — Brandon Blackstock. Clarkson will be back on television for a new special called Songs & Stories. The premiere episode of the pre-recorded four part series will air on Aug. 19 on NBC. The show will also be available for streaming the next day on Peacock. The television special was inspired by Clarkson's talk show segment by the same name. View this post on Instagram A post shared by NBC Entertainment (@nbc) "Every song's got a story, and this special gives us a chance to hear what's behind the music straight from the artists who lived it. Getting to share the stage with them and hear about the moments that shaped their paths — and where they're headed next — is pretty special,' Clarkson said in a press release ahead of the premiere. Each week, Clarkson will interview an artist and then she will perform with them. The Jonas Brothers will join Clarkson on Tuesday night's premiere. In the upcoming three weeks, Clarkson will chat with Gloria Estefan (Aug. 26), Teddy Swims (Sept. 2), and Lizzo (Sept. 9). "From chart-toppers to personal stories, the Jonas Brothers are kicking off #NBCSongsAndStories with Kelly Clarkson," read the caption of a post uploaded to the official NBC Instagram page. Overall, fans seem excited for the series. "Yassssss can't wait!!!" one person commented on NBC's promo post. "This is going to be great," someone else said. "Not going to miss this," a third comment read. Since the series was pre-recorded, it's unlikely that Clarkson will discuss anything that's happened in her personal life over the past two weeks. Kelly Clarkson Returns to Instagram 12 Days After Ex's Death first appeared on Parade on Aug 19, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Aug 19, 2025, where it first appeared.
