Good Lord Someone Bought A New Dodge Journey In 2025
There are basically no other automakers that sell as many dead cars as Stellantis does, so it's not exactly a surprise to see ancient cars like the Journey, Ram ProMaster City and Fiat 500X on the automaker's sales sheet. Still, there's no excuse for walking into a Dodge dealership in the year of our lord 2025 and walking out with a brand-new five-year-old Journey. That sort of stuff just isn't acceptable in polite society.
More likely than not, the Journey some poor schmuck bought didn't even have the sort-of-good 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. Odds are, the car was a 2020 model year, and that engine was dropped after 2019 in the Journey. That means someone cruised home in 2025 with a five-year-old brand new car fitted with a 173 horsepower naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder mated up to a four-speed automatic transmission. That poor soul.
I'd love to know what sort of sales pitch the dealer gave this person. I'm certain the price was very low, but that really doesn't make up for the fact there are 3 trillion other three-row crossovers for sale on the used market that would be far better than the Journey. In a lot of ways, I'm very impressed. I'd also like to know how five long years went by without anyone noticing this poor, crappy car on the lot.

That Journey wasn't the only dead car Stellantis sold by a longshot. The company also sold 156 Jeep Cherokees, 370 Jeep Renegades, a single Ram ProMaster City, 341 Chrysler 300s and 74 Fiat 500Xs. Jeep also saw a 10% year-over-year sales decline, Ram saw a 2% drop, Dodge watched sales fall 49% and Alfa Romeo's dropped 15%. At least Chrysler's sales were up 1% and Fiat saw a massive 239% jump, though it still only sold 522 cars in the first quarter.
To make matters even more embarrassing, the now-dead internal combustion-powered Dodge Charger and Challenger outsold the Charger Daytona EV. The automaker sold 1,947 of the electric muscle cars in the first quarter. At the same time, it sold a combined 1,974 gas-powered Chargers and Challengers. That makes a whole lot more sense than a five-year-old Dodge Journey.

Stellantis pulls back on EVs and hybrids as $7,500 tax credit nears end
Stellantis NV has dialed back production of its electrified lineup - with dealers prevented from ordering several models - as the end of the federal $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit approaches on Sept. 30. The carmaker wouldn't provide details on the changes but confirmed that at least some production of electric models had paused. 'In line with our retail priorities and the plans shared with our dealer network, we are working to ensure our production plan is in line with consumer demand,' Stellantis spokeswoman Jodi Tinson said in a statement. Stellantis retailers said the carmaker has either fully stopped or restricted orders on its EV offerings and plug-in hybrids - including the fully-electric Jeep Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger Daytona, as well as the hybrid Jeep Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and Chrysler Pacifica. Purchasers of the Wagoneer S and Pacifica qualify for the $7,500 tax credit, and those who lease any of the company's other plug-in models can also get the discount. But those incentives are soon going away. Dealers selling all types of EVs and plug-in hybrids are trying to sell off as many of their existing stock as possible before the tax credit expires, customer demand falls, and they find themselves with suddenly much pricier models sitting on their lots. Stellantis also has been reminding customers about the end of the tax credit on its brand websites. 'Get your EV incentive while you can!' says the Jeep Wagoneer S site, while the Jeep Wrangler 4xe page warns: 'Your $7,500 EV incentive is going fast.' Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions LLC, said the recent end of California's strictest-in-the-nation emissions policies also impacts Stellantis' need to produce so many of its plug-in hybrids. Before, the carmaker needed to send lots of hybrids to the states that followed the Golden State's stringent policies, Fiorani said. But while Stellantis may still be on the hook in California alone, due to a prior arrangement, it should now be able to send larger numbers of its gas-powered models to the other states. 'Everybody's making changes to their production for electric vehicles,' Fiorani said, as the tax credit nears its expiration thanks to President Donald Trump's sprawling spending and tax legislation signed into law earlier this summer. The Charger Daytona and Wagoneer S haven't sold in large numbers since they hit dealers at the start of this year, even with the tax credit in place. But the automaker's plug-in hybrid offerings have been among the top sellers in the category over the last few years. In 2024, the Grand Cherokee 4xe sold 27,590 units, or 13% of the model's overall sales; Wrangler 4xe's 55,554 units sold made up 37% of sales; and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid sold 20,423 units, or 17% of the minivan's overall sales. The Toyota Tacoma May Be Getting a New Midsize Truck Rival
Ram Brazil has unveiled a striking pickup concept that recalls a long-dead name in the Dodge brand portfolio. Every product is carefully selected by our editors. If you buy from a link, we may earn a commission. Learn more Thanks to its workhorse reliability and rugged off-road capability, the Toyota Tacoma dominates the midsize pickup segment in the United States. It's a truck that's truly versatile in its abilities, and it offers something for everyone because of its vast aftermarket support. Nevertheless, in more diverse markets around the world, other OEMs are trying to contest Toyota's supremacy. The latest effort comes from Ram; oddly enough, however, it's not bound for the US — yet. Brazilian nightfall The truck you see before you is called the Dakota Nightfall Concept, and it offers a preview of the all-new Ram Dakota midsize pickup set to launch in Brazil and South America for 2026. While this means that it's off-limits for buyers in the United States, the concept is still an intriguing vehicle, and CEO Tim Kuniskis has hinted at more trucks coming to the brand's lineup in the future. In any case, just look at the styling. From the striking grille and illuminated hood intake to the rugged bumpers, fender moldings and tow hooks, it skews a lot like a mini Ram TRX. And the truck doesn't skimp on the equipment, either. In making the Dakota Nightfall Concept, Ram fitted the pickup with real-deal all-terrain upgrades like a front winch, beadlock wheels and underbody protection. Riding on some lifted Fox suspension and 33-inch tires, it's a Tacoma-rivaling off-roader through and through. Dakota pickup precedent Even though it's not slated for a North American release, the return of the Dakota nameplate makes for big news — the truck first hit the market in 1987, and it remained on sale in the United States until it was finally laid to rest in 2011 with Ram branding. Enthusiasts have been calling for the truck's revival for years now, so Stellantis could be testing the nameplate in another market before bringing the pickup back to the United States. It could use a midsize in its lineup to rival the likes of the Toyota Tacoma. That said, given the similarities to other models in the brand's portfolio — like the Peugeot Landtrek — as keenly reported by Carbuzz, it's not likely that this particular version of the Dakota could make for a profitable stateside seller. Regardless, with Kuniskis at the helm, Ram is a brand to be watching in the truck segment. Given the CEO's 25-product announcement plan, his ambitious SRT initiatives and the recently confirmed return of the TRX, there's no telling what's going on behind the scenes. Forbidden fruit While the Nightfall is only a concept, the Ram Dakota is slated for production, and Stellantis has announced that it will be providing more details soon. Unfortunately for US readers, this truck remains forbidden fruit. When it goes on sale in South America, it will take on the Toyota Hilux (the Tacoma's global sibling) and the Ford Ranger.
