Manipur BJP MLAs meet twice in 2 days to reaffirm unity to form government
Amid political uncertainty in Manipur, BJP legislators on Saturday reaffirmed their unity and expressed their commitment to forming a stable government that prioritises development and peace in the violence-hit state.The meeting was held on Saturday at the BJP state headquarters in Keishampat in Imphal, a day after 23 BJP legislators met at former minister Thongam Biswajit Singh's residence in Imphal to form a consensus to prioritise unity among them and form a government.advertisementThe meeting was held by the party's state president A Sarda Devi.
"All BJP legislators are united and we discussed the formation of the government in the current conflict situation. The government should focus on development and also be able to bring peace and normalcy to the state," Sarda Devi told reporters after the meeting.Echoing her sentiments, Manipur BJP vice-president Chidananda Singh emphasised that the formation of the government lies entirely with the party's central leadership, saying he hoped that they "act in time".The meeting mainly focused on two agendas - accelerating the process of restoration of peace in Manipur and addressing the people's desire for a popular government.Chidananda further clarified that internal party issues were not discussed during Saturday's meeting and declined to provide a specific timeline for the formation of the new government. "We resolved to put aside personal ambitions in the larger interest of the state, its people and the vision of the BJP and its alliance partners," a statement read.During the deliberations, the leaders supported the creation of a neutral dialogue platform to facilitate constructive engagement between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities.They also discussed the feasibility of formally requesting the appointment of a 'peace envoy' or a panel of eminent persons by the Governor and the Centre, to mediate impartially and bridge existing trust deficits.Saturday's BJP huddle came just three days after party MLA Thokchom Radheshyam stated that 44 legislators had agreed to form a popular government, asserting their readiness to act in accordance with the public's will. Punjab: Paddy MSP hike meagre, says SKM
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has condemned the minimum support price (MSP) that was announced for 14 crops for the current kharif season by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on May 28. The government has increased the paddy rate to ₹2,369 per quintal (100 kg) from last year's ₹2,300. In a statement, the SKM mentioned, 'The MSP is not based on Swaminathan Commission's recommendation of C2+50% formula. Had it been implemented, the paddy MSP should have been ₹3,135 per quintal. The average production in India for paddy is 25-30 quintals per acre and the loss due to non-implementation of Swaminathan Commission's recommendation for farmers on one-acre production will be in the range of ₹19,150 to ₹22,980, which is three times higher than ₹6,000 being provided under the PM Kisan Nidhi,' the SKM leaders stated. The C2 formula of calculating the cost of cultivation includes the cost of capital and the rent on the land to give farmers 50% returns. A senior SKM leader, Sukhdev Singh Kokrikalan, said the group and the farmer's organisations across the country were consistently demanding implementation of the C2+50% formula for MSP with guaranteed procurement as promised in the election manifesto of the BJP in the 2014 general election. 'However, the BJP-led Union government under PM Modi has been betraying the farmers for the 12th year by not increasing the MSP using the C2+50% formula,' he said. The SKM added the rate of inflation and the rising prices of fertilisers, seed and other input materials, including petroleum products, and the living cost were much higher than the MSP hike. The SKM has also decided to ensure active participation in a nationwide general strike at tehsil and block level on July 9.

BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya said that Pakistan was formed as India chose the path of peace and not civil war. He said that India has never divided its people based on religion. We had a very successful one year of presidency. So while we host the G20, they host the T20. The top twenty terrorists of the world will be found being hosted by the Pakistani state government. It's their stated policy. Right from Osama bin Laden, I don't know how many of you have seen the documentary. You all must go back home and see the documentary on how he was taken out of Pakistan and he was being hidden, actively financed, aided, trained, supported, and hidden from their so-called ally in the US. So they shake hands with you, but they bite you on your back." She recalled how Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, had given a speech days before the Pahalgam attack, where he mentioned that there was a huge difference between Hindus and Muslims. She emphasised how Indian Muslims stood by the Indian government and demanded that India give a befitting response to Pakistan. She stated, "A country which came with the idea that it will have a separate with the idea of othering one religion from the other, is continuing to manifest that in many forms, ways. What began, and I tell you why this particular incident has united the entire nation, united everybody across political parties, is because of a speech before Pahalgam happened. A speech where they are now Field Marshal, then their Army Chief explains very categorically that there is a huge difference between Hindus and Muslims and that is exactly what you saw manifestation of it when the terror attacks happened. What he forgot is that over 200 million Muslims in India stood unitedly behind its government and said they should be given a befitting response. What Pakistan has done to the minorities within its nation, they are suffering the consequences of it within their nation. They might keep blaming others, that's not my problem. But the 200 million Muslims stood in solidarity and said, please do not even compare us to your nefarious ways and your terrorist links. We will fight back and we will fight back in solidarity. High Commissioner of India to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, lauded the role of the Indian community in India-UK ties and how they worked for the UK. He said that Indians and India are seen in the best of images due to the hard work of Indians. He said, "The value that the community of people of Indian origin provides not just to the India-UK relationship, which is immense, but to the United Kingdom itself. Our community has been a pillar of this nation's growth, this nation's achievements, indeed, this nation's successes. People of Indian origin contributed most mightily to the war efforts in the First World War and the Second World War, both materially, in terms of money, and in terms of the fighting men who served and died in the wars against Imperial Germany and thereafter against the Axis powers. "People of Indian origin came here to build this country and rebuild it after the war. People of Indian origin today have occupied offices, including the highest office in this land. They have played for the country, soldiered for the country, earned money for the country and have helped make India a shining name in the United Kingdom. Because of their hard work, Indians and India are seen in the best of image and the community that has come here today is a community that has come on its own. We opened up the portals for registration. We were swamped with over 650 registrations in less than two days on a Sunday evening with great weather. Nashik Simhastha Kumbh Mela to go on for over 21 months
MUMBAI: The Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar will go on for over 21 months between October 2026 and July 2028, as per the schedule announced after a review meeting chaired by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in Nashik on Sunday. The government has floated bids for infrastructure works of over ₹4,000 crore while more works of ₹2,000 crore are in the pipeline for the once-in-12-years religious festival to be held in Nashik. The Mela will begin on October 21, 2026 with the Dhwajarohan or flag hoisting at Trimbakeshwar as well as Ramkund and Panchvati in Nashik. The Nagar Pradakshina will be held at Nashik on July 29, 2027, while the first Amrut Snaan will be held on August 2, 2027. The second Amrut Snaan will be held on August 31, 2027, while the third and last one will be held on September 11, 2027 in Nashik and September 12, 2027 in Trimbakeshwar. The announcement of the dates was done after the meeting chaired by the CM and attended by key government officials, key seers and mahants of 13 akharas. 'We have discussed the steps to be taken for the preparation of the grand event and apprised the representatives of akharas, sadhus and sants and Purohit Sanghs,' said Fadnavis. 'Bids worth ₹4,000 crore for infrastructure facilities have already floated, while more bids worth ₹2,000 are in the last leg of the process. The works include cleaning the Godavari, setting up sewage treatment plants, water purification and release of more water among others. We have earmarked land for the Sadhugram and it will soon be acquired.' The CM said that since the mela was happening for a prolonged period, crowd management would be easier for the administration. 'Kushavart in Trimbakeshwar has a narrow space so we have chalked out alternative plans to avoid a stampede-like situation,' he said. According to officials from the Nashik collectorate, the area availability was a constraint, as the Kumbh in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar are held in the heart of the city unlike Prayagraj, Ujjain or Haridwar. 'Against an area of over 10,000 acres available in Prayagraj, our Sadhugram is on just 350 acres while the Ramkund where the Amrut Snaan happens is just a few hundred metres,' said an official. 'Kushawart Kund (the sacred pond considered the symbolic origin of Godavari river near the Trimbakeshwar temple) is 75x75 ft and needs an alternative. The representatives of the Akharas have agreed to prepare an alternative ghat of over 1.5 km on the banks of the Godavari in Trimbakeshwar to avoid any untoward incident at Kushawart. The congested area in which the Kumbh is held is a major challenge for the administration.' Even as preparations for the Sinhastha are in full swing, the Mahayuti government has not yet announced the name of the Nashik guardian minister, given the tussle among the three ruling parties for the post. Fadnavis said that the issue should not be politicised. 'We have appointed water resources minister (BJP leader) Girish Mahajan as Kumbh minister, an authority has been announced to oversee the preparations and appointments to it will soon be finalised,' he said. 'There are other ministers like Dada Bhuse (Shiv Sena) and Chhagan Bhujbal (NCP) to work with the Kumbh minister. The Mela is a cultural and religious event and should not be linked with political appointments.' The government, on the suggestion of Mahant Rajendradas Maharaj, admitted to renaming Shahi Snaan as Amrut Snaan, the way it was done during the recently concluded Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. 'We will ensure that the Simhastha Kumbh Mela is held in a well-planned manner and be memorable,' said Fadnavis.
