Roads crumble, craters surface in Noida after rain
Officials now say that the project will now be finished by Aug 31.
Meanwhile, key stretches from Kalindi Kunj to Sector 37 have developed fresh potholes, slowing traffic and increasing the risk of accidents. A speed breaker near the Botanical Garden metro station is also badly damaged, adding to commuter woes.
In May this year, Noida Authority began repairing the Mahamaya Flyover's expansion joints and said the project would be completed within two months.

However, recent showers disrupted the project works, and as a temporary measure, iron sheets were placed over the gaps, posing a serious risk of accidents.
Vijay Rawal, deputy general manager (Civil) at the Noida Authority, said, "The road sees heavy traffic during morning and evening hours. The traffic police do not allow the project work during peak hours. Therefore, the work has been delayed as we can only conduct it in the afternoon.

We hope to complete it by Aug 31."
The 450-metre-long flyover, built in 2006 to facilitate smooth vehicular movement between Noida and Delhi, has seen several rounds of repair and resurfacing over the years. However, this is the first time that all 36 expansion joints are being replaced.
Govind Kumar, a resident of Kalindi Kunj, said that he frequently travels from Delhi to Noida via Kalindi Kunj. "Potholes are like hidden traps on the road, as people don't see them until it's too late.
For two-wheeler riders, even a small jerk can throw them off balance and cause a serious accident. The officials must fix these potholes as soon as possible," he said.
Rough patches have also been developed on the Sector 60 road that descends from the Noida Elevated Road. Many people traveling from Noida Sector 18 to 62 and Greater Noida West take this stretch daily.
Noida Authority said the potholes will be identified and fixed once the monsoon rainfall is over.

UAE citizens can now renew passports up to one year before expiry, ICP announces
The UAE passport now grants visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 185 countries, ranking it 8th strongest worldwide in 2025/ Representative image Starting August 18, 2025, UAE citizens will be allowed to renew their passports up to one year before the expiry date, a change from the earlier six-month window. The new rule, issued by the ICP, is part of a broader initiative to enhance travel flexibility, streamline official procedures, and strengthen the UAE passport's global standing. New timeline for passport renewals The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has revised the policy governing passport renewals for UAE citizens. As per the latest decision by Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi, Chairman of the ICP, Emiratis will now be permitted to renew their passports once the remaining validity is one year or less. This is a shift from the previous rule that allowed renewals only when six months or fewer were left before expiration. The change will be effective Monday, August 18, 2025, and is applicable to all UAE nationals with eligible passports. The aim is to allow for better advance planning, especially for international travel, while reducing disruptions in official transactions and providing extended use of digital documentation. ICP noted that the new timeline will also support seamless transitions for UAE citizens who travel frequently or are involved in long-term visa procedures abroad. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Digital-first, accessible renewal process The ICP has confirmed that the renewal process will remain efficient and widely accessible, continuing to focus on digital services to facilitate ease of access. Citizens can complete the entire renewal process online through the ICP smart services platform, accessible via both the official website and mobile application. The online process allows applicants to: Fill out the application form Upload necessary documentation Make payments digitally For those who prefer or require in-person assistance, customer happiness centers within the UAE will remain available. Additionally, UAE nationals living abroad can submit their applications through UAE embassies and consulates, and they also have the option to initiate the process online and collect the renewed passport from a diplomatic mission. UAE passport strength and global ranking This update comes at a time when the UAE passport continues to see a significant rise in its global ranking and travel privileges. As of 2025, the UAE passport: Is ranked 8th globally according to the Henley Passport Index Grants holders visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 185 countries This is a marked improvement over previous years: 2022 & 2023: Ranked 15th 2024: Advanced to 11th 2025: Entered the Top 10, securing 8th place Since the Henley Passport Index's inception in 2006, the UAE passport has added 152 countries to its visa-free or visa-on-arrival list, reflecting the UAE's growing diplomatic ties and international mobility for its citizens. Chairman Al Shamsi highlighted that the UAE passport continues to rank as the world's most powerful, trusted, and widely recognised travel document. The new decision, he added, is a strong boost to its global standing and further establishes the UAE's passport issuance and renewal system as a leading model for the region and beyond. In terms of operations, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai has processed 7,425 passport renewals during the first half of 2025 alone. Since the opening of its center in 2008, over 139,000 passports have been issued to Emiratis through that facility.

After battling physical hurdles, 17-year-old Aman to hoist Tricolour at Everest Base Camp
KOZHIKODE: After 10 days of relentless trekking, a teenager from a small town in Kozhikode is on the verge of turning his lifelong dream into a powerful statement for a nation. Aman Ali, a 17-year-old student from Arakkinar, will hoist the Tricolour today at Everest Base Camp -- at a formidable altitude of 5,364 metres. His journey is also a story of triumph over disability that many would consider a showstopper. Born without hands and living with a locomotor disability linked to cerebral palsy, Aman's trek has been an inspiration to his fellow climbers and a symbol of hope for thousands. He is part of a nine-member climbing group from Kerala, led by experienced mountaineer Sheikh Hassan Khan. The group's mission has been to not just reach base camp, but to support Aman in his quest to hoist the Indian flag on Independence Day, in a symbolic act of freedom and resilience. In a conversation from the breathtaking heights of the Himalayas, Aman shared his feelings, his voice filled with a quiet determination. 'People thought this trip would be challenging for me, but at no point did I feel my disability would force me to step back,' he said. Aman credited his team for their unwavering support, a camaraderie that transformed the difficult trek into a shared adventure. 'The huge support from my team indeed boosted me to reach this extent. They considered me as part of them and made me walk just like any normal people would trek to the base camp.' This expedition is Aman's first serious trek, his only previous experience being a climb up Kurumbalakotta, a hill in his home state of Kerala's Wayanad district. He wants his story to be a beacon of motivation. 'I want to be the motivation for thousands of disabled people in our country. If I can achieve this height, then anyone can,' he asserted. 'Nobody should keep us aside by talking about our disability. My legs are enough to reach this height.' Beyond the majestic peaks and challenging terrain, Aman has grand ambitions. He dreams of becoming a professional footballer and captaining the Indian team. Upon his return, he plans to train at the prestigious I M Vijayan Football Camp.
