On the festival of Raksha Bandhan, it's a good time to take a closer look at Yogi Adityanath's family, especially his brothers and sisters.
Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2022. Since then, many have noticed big changes in the state. He is often seen with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders, but he rarely speaks about his personal life or family.
On the festival of Raksha Bandhan, it's a good time to take a closer look at his family, especially his brothers and sisters. Yogi has three sisters and three brothers. While he chose politics, his siblings live simple lives and mostly stay away from the limelight.
Yogi Adityanath's Sisters
Yogi Adityanath was born in the village of Panchur, located in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, to Anand Singh and Savitri Devi. He is the second child among four brothers and three sisters. While there's no public information about two of his sisters, one of them is Shashi Payal, who often interacts with the media and also attends her brother's political events. Many might assume that the Chief Minister's sister lives a luxurious life, but that's not the case. According to reports, Shashi runs a small tea and snacks shop near the Mata Bhuvaneshwari Devi temple in their home town.
Yogi Adityanath's Brothers
The UP CM's eldest brother is Manvendra Mohan and he works at a college. After him comes Yogi Adityanath, followed by two younger brothers, Shailendra Mohan and Mahendra Mohan. Shailendra is part of the Indian Army, where he works as a Subedar and is posted at the India-China border. Mahendra, on the other hand, works at a school.
As per Amar Ujala, Shailendra was once asked if he ever gets the chance to meet his politician brother. He replied that he met him once in Delhi after he became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He mentioned that their entire family refers to Yogi as Maharaj Ji. He also said that having such a background gives people hope that reaching a big position doesn't make someone great, and that true greatness comes from doing meaningful work.
While Yogi Adityanath's siblings have stayed away from politics and lead simple lives, there are many well-known political families in India where siblings are active in the same field. For example, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are both important faces of the Congress party. In Bihar, brothers Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav are involved in politics under the RJD party.
Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav is a senior Samajwadi Party leader, while his brother Prateek Yadav has kept a distance from politics but is still known in the circle. K Kavitha and KT Rama Rao, both children of Telangana leader K Chandrashekar Rao, are also in politics and hold important positions.
After having a successful political career, a film based on Yogi Adityanath's life, titled Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi, is all set to hit the big screen. The movie aims to show important parts of his journey, from his early days to becoming the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Congress workers hold agitation over delay in water supply from new overhead tank in Bopodi

1 2 Pune: Workers of the Congress city unit on Saturday held an agitation over the delay in commissioning water supply from the newly constructed overhead tank in the Bopodi-Aundh area. The tank can store over 3 lakh litres of water. Congress workers claimed the water tank was not being put to use despite the facility being ready. Vinod Ranpise, general secretary of the city unit of Congress, said the civic administration should start water supply from the tank at full capacity with immediate effect. Officials from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), after Saturday's agitation, assured that water supply from the tank would begin soon. "The overhead tank at Bopodi is ready, and some work on pipelines is under way. The supply of water will start in phases," an official from the civic body's water supply department said. BJP taking credit for projects Meanwhile, Arvind Shinde, head of the Congress city unit, claimed the BJP has been claiming credit for various civic projects, although many of them were tabled or sanctioned during the Congress regime. "Flyovers on the city's key stretches are ready, but BJP workers are waiting for their leaders for the inauguration. The administration should open civic projects for citizens without delays. BJP's tactics will not help the party win the forthcoming civic polls. People are already fed up with their false promises," he said. Another Congress leader said, "The BJP has been in power in the PMC for five years with a clear majority. Despite a huge mandate, many crucial civic projects, including the construction of overhead water tanks, execution of the equitable water supply project, and river pollution abatement project, failed to gain pace. The metro project has moved to a slow track." Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Haji Ali dargah's beautification plan faces delay

On a recent drive down the Coastal Road, sculptor Sunil Deore gazed at the iconic Haji Ali Dargah in despair. "The pathway leading to the dargah gate and the area surrounding the shrine need an urgent revamp. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The monument deserves to be beautified," commented Deore, whose famous works include the replica of the national emblem crowning the new parliament building. Deore is not alone in emphasising that the area around the 500-year-old monument of Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari, including the pathway that gets submerged at high tide, needs an urgent facelift. After Congress MLA Amin Patel raised the subject of the shrine's beautification in the state assembly recently, the issue is back in the spotlight. "I have written letters to a dozen authorities, including CM Devendra Fadnavis, the guardian minister, the finance minister, and the municipal commissioner. I reiterated in the House that Haji Ali Dargah draws thousands of pilgrims from India and abroad daily," says Patel. "The beautification plan, which has been in abeyance, needs to be kicked off." Here's a recap of the chronology of events: Responding to a Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the Haji Ali Dargah Trust, the Supreme Court, on August 14, 2017, ordered the removal of encroachments, saying: "We hope and expect that the beautification plan will be carried out under all circumstances before December 31, 2017, so that the visitors to the Haji Ali Dargah, in the new year, will experience the efforts of all concerned in upgrading the existing structure and its environment. " Eight years later, the apex court's hope is yet to be fulfilled. While the Haji Ali Dargah Trust—which is responsible for improving the infrastructure—is carrying out the restoration work, the revamp of the shrine's surroundings is stuck in a bureaucratic logjam. After restoring the mosque and the minaret in two phases, the trust is halfway through restoring the tomb of the Sufi saint, using marble sourced from Makrana in Rajasthan. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Incidentally, the mine owner is a descendant of the trader who supplied the Taj Mahal its marble. "But the marble we are using is better quality than what was used for the Taj Mahal," says Sohail Khandwani, Managing Trustee of the Haji Ali and Mahim dargahs. The task of beautifying the area surrounding the dargah, including the pathway, lies with the state govt. Khandwani says soon after the SC order a task force was formed, comprising the municipal commissioner, the police commissioner, the collector, and the Dargah Trust. Subsequently, the project was awarded to architect Abha Narain Lambah and Egis India Engineers through a govt tender. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari lent his support by issuing clearances. The beautification plan includes widening the pathway from 20ft to 40ft, creating a 30,000 sq ft Mughal Garden, laying anti-erosion tetrapods, building an archway called Buland Darwaza at the entrance, and setting up a healthcare centre, langar khana, and an area for women. The causeway will have a pedestrian underpass, an elevated pathway and a canopy to protect pilgrims from inclement weather. The entire area will be illuminated. The project's cost was initially estimated at Rs 19 crore (for road widening ) and Rs 35 crore for overall beautification. "The cost is now over Rs 68 crore, as the design has been modified," says a source. "We want the govt to release the funds so that the work can start," says Lambah. Former guardian minister Aslam Shaikh says ruefully, "I pushed the project, and the work was about to start when my govt fell."
