Retired teacher loses over RM200,000 in phone scam
Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the 61-year-old woman received a call from someone claiming that a false insurance claim amounting to RM68,000 had been made under her name.
He said the call was then transferred to another individual who introduced himself as a police officer from the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters, alleging that the woman was involved in fraudulent claims and money laundering activities.
"The victim was then instructed to open several bank accounts and transfer all her savings, pension gratuity and bank loans into specific accounts, supposedly for investigation purposes," he said in a statement today.
Yahaya said the victim made 24 fund transfers to six different accounts between Feb 20 and May 5.
He advised the public not to panic when receiving suspicious calls and never to reveal banking information to unknown parties.

Durian farmer caught with 919kg of Musang King, D24 from protected forest
KUANTAN: A durian farmer's plan to profit from Musang King and D24 durians planted illegally in the Gunung Benum Forest Reserve was thwarted when authorities intercepted a four-wheel-drive vehicle transporting the fruit yesterday. The four-hour patrol, which ended at 7am, led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man and the seizure of 919kg of durians worth about RM5,000. Pahang Forestry Department director Zainuddin Jamaluddin said the grade C and D durians were believed to be for local markets. Investigations showed the trees were located in Compartment 91 of the Gunung Benum Forest Reserve in Raub. He said the department seized the vehicle and the durians under the National Forestry Act 1984 for encroachment and unlawful extraction of forest produce. "The man who was detained was later released on police bail after providing a statement. "The investigating officer will continue with the probe before legal action is taken for removing forest produce (durians) without authorisation," he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian. Daily patrols have been conducted since July 21 following the launch of an integrated operation with the Royal Malaysia Police, the Pahang State Enforcement Unit, the General Operations Force (PGA), Rela, and the Raub District and Land Office. "Gunung Benum Forest Reserve has become a site for illegal cultivation of durians and other fruit trees such as mangosteen, rambutan, petai, and kantan, believed to be planted by local residents," Zainuddin said. He said the department would not compromise with those involved in illegal activities in the reserve. More than 40 forestry personnel, along with officers from other agencies, are involved in the 60-day operation. Nine areas have been identified as hotspots for illegal farming. He urged communities living near the forest reserve not to harvest or carry out activities in the area. "Forest department enforcement units constantly patrol high-risk areas within the reserves. Aside from illegal farming, there are also individuals entering the forests for recreation. Entering a forest reserve requires a permit or official permission. "We have placed numerous signboards stating that entry without authorisation is an offence. Everyone must comply to avoid facing legal action," he said.

Mother of two charged with criminal breach of trust

Kota Kinabalu: A 25-year-old woman was charged with committing criminal breach of trust amounting to RM17,704. Aliexandra Audrey Jimmy Joe pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, to the charge against her on Thursday. She is accused of breaching the trust given to her as a worker of Syarikat KKRMC Trading Sdn Bhd which entrusted her with the sales collections belonged to the company by making the money for her own use. The offence allegedly took place between March 14, 2024 and Apr 30, 2024 at the company's premises in Kg Andus, Papar. Aliexandra was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of between one and 14 years, and whipping, and liable to a fine, on conviction. The court set Sept 3 this year for pre-trial case management and released Aliexandra on bail of RM4,000 in two local sureties. The court also imposed several additional conditions on Aliexandra such as to report to Sabindo police station once a mont, to surrender her passport, if any, to court until the disposal of her case. Aliexandra was also advised to engage a counsel to represent her during the hearing. Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Bryan Francis proposed bail of RM10,000 in two local sureties and also requested for several additional conditions to be imposed on Aliexandra. Thirteen illegal immigrants were jailed four months each for entering the State illegally.

Kota Kinabalu: They were Timhar Sajan, Sharif Azman, Radzmil Ibnu, Normin Benjamin, Mohamad Ibnu, Mar Barli, Benjamin Jalang, Emilinda Sabu Goran, Martina Bataubine Wokal, Sapir Ali, Amin Jul, Muhammad Isa Totong and Marsel Jaid. All the illegal immigrants comprising Indonesians and Filipinos pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain, to entering the State without their valid documents. The offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, and whipping, on conviction. The illegal immigrants were arrested by the Immigration team who carried out operation in Tenom, Sipitang, Menumbok and Kota Marudu and Kudat in May June and July this year. During the operation, they failed to produce their identification documents to the Immigration personnel. During mitigation, the illegal immigrants begged for leniency and to be deported to their hometown as soon as possible. The court ordered the illegal immigrants to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests. After completing their jail sentence, all of the illegal foreigners were ordered referred to the Immigration Department for further action.
