Thirteen illegal immigrants were jailed four months each for entering the State illegally.

Kota Kinabalu: They were Timhar Sajan, Sharif Azman, Radzmil Ibnu, Normin Benjamin, Mohamad Ibnu, Mar Barli, Benjamin Jalang, Emilinda Sabu Goran, Martina Bataubine Wokal, Sapir Ali, Amin Jul, Muhammad Isa Totong and Marsel Jaid. All the illegal immigrants comprising Indonesians and Filipinos pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain, to entering the State without their valid documents. The offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, and whipping, on conviction. The illegal immigrants were arrested by the Immigration team who carried out operation in Tenom, Sipitang, Menumbok and Kota Marudu and Kudat in May June and July this year. During the operation, they failed to produce their identification documents to the Immigration personnel. During mitigation, the illegal immigrants begged for leniency and to be deported to their hometown as soon as possible. The court ordered the illegal immigrants to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests. After completing their jail sentence, all of the illegal foreigners were ordered referred to the Immigration Department for further action. KENINGAU: Sabah Immigration carried out 940 enforcement operations across the State between January and July 28 to curb the entry and settlement of illegal immigrants. Its Director, Datuk Sharifah Sitti Saleha Habib Yusoff, said the operations, conducted in collaboration with various enforcement agencies, saw 17,410 people being screened from the Philippines, Indonesia, and other nationalities residing and working in Sabah. 'Of that number, 3,536 individuals were arrested for various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, including failure to produce valid documents, misuse of visit passes and overstaying their permitted duration,' she said. Sharifah stressed they would continue to carry out daily enforcement under its principle of 'no day without enforcement'. She said action was taken against 85 employers for hiring or harbouring foreigners without valid work permits — a serious offence under national laws. Firm action against employers remains one of the department's main focuses to deter the practice of employing PATI, which affects job opportunities for locals. Meanwhile, 141 illegal immigrants were detained in a separate enforcement operation carried out in and around Keningau district early Tuesday. The operation which began at around 12.30am ended at 4am, involved raids on two squatter areas — Balilingi and Bulu Silou — which were suspected of housing foreigners for a long time. 'A total of 216 individuals were screened during the integrated operation, involving 84 personnel, including officers from the Keningau, Tenom, Ranau, Sipitang, and Kota Kinabalu Immigration offices, supported by RELA members from Keningau District. 'Of those detained, 44 were adult women, 26 adult men, while the rest were male and female children. 'In total, 78 detainees were Filipinos and 63 were Indonesians, arrested for various immigration offences,' she said. Among the offences identified were the lack of valid identification documents under Section 6(1)(c) and overstaying under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. During the raids, there were attempts by some individuals to flee, but the situation was brought under control without any untoward incidents. All detainees are currently being held at the Papar Detention Depot for further action. The department assured that such operations will continue from time to time to ensure public safety, the rule of law and state security. In a related development, Sharifah hopes the issuance of temporary travel documents by the respective embassies for detained foreigners can be expedited. She said this involves the issuance of the SPLP (Surat Perjalanan Laksana Pasport) for Indonesian nationals and the Travel Document for Filipino citizens, which are essential for repatriation. She said many have been held in detention for three to four months waiting for these documents. 'If the embassies or consulates issue these documents, the detainees can be quickly repatriated to Indonesia and the Philippines,' she said. Sharifah noted that delays in identity verification and document issuance have led to overcrowding at the Temporary Detention Depot, placing pressure on its capacity and management. As of July 28, JIM Sabah carried out 100 deportation sessions involving the repatriation of 6,329 individuals by air and sea. Fined for threatening to kill wife

Kota Kinabalu: A 44-year-old year old man was fined RM4,000 or seven months jail by the Magistrate's Court here Friday for threatening to kill his wife. Kamirin Ebit pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence against his 39-year-old wife by saying 'Ku sembelih kau pun boleh bah (I can slaughter you too)', on June 12, this year, at 10pm, in front of a house at Angkasa Apartment, Menggatal. The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both and if the threat involves causing death or grievous hurt, arson, or outraging a woman's modesty, the penalty may extend to seven years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, on conviction. The court heard from the prosecution that on the night of the incident, the complainant was at home when an argument broke out with Kamirin, who is her husband. During the quarrel, he threatened her with the said words, causing her to fear for her safety. She later lodged a police report which led to Kamirin arrest on July 4. Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man was sentenced to seven months jail for keeping a stolen car. Baru Junie pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to keeping a stolen Proton Saga belonging to one Winona Emmanuel, on May 26, this year, at 12.05am, at the traffic light, Jalan Tuaran Bypass, Manggatal – Tuaran. The charge is framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between six months and five years and liability of a fine on conviction. The prosecution informed the court that the car was reported stolen from a workshop in Putatan on May 25. In the same court, a 35-year-old man was jailed six months for a similar offence. Walter Jumain admitted to keeping stolen items comprising several identity cards, bank cards, a car key, an Apple Watch, and a laptop belonging to one Jude Ooi on July 24, at 9.30am in a rented room at Putatan town. The court heard from the prosecution that the said items were reported missing from the complainant's house in Penampang on July 24. Sabah Police Museum prepares for public opening

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah State Police Museum will be open to the public soon once the display materials and interior fittings are fully completed, said Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun. He said the museum's official opening will be held later, giving the public an opportunity to explore the history and development of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in the state. 'Although the museum is not yet 100 per cent complete, I'm pleased to report that under the supervision of the Head of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK), Datuk Azhar Hamin, along with the museum's curator, progress has been smooth. 'God willing, it will be fully completed in the near future and we will announce visiting hours for the public once everything is ready,' he said. Jauteh was speaking to reporters after attending the state-level Warriors' Day 2025 celebration at the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) here on Thursday. In conjunction with the celebration, Head of State Tun Musa Aman and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor also toured the museum exhibition area. Jauteh said the visit drew strong interest from the dignitaries in attendance. 'The visit caught the attention of the Head of State, the Chief Minister, and other invited guests. We will determine the official opening date once all preparations and installations are completed as planned,' he added. Meanwhile, Jauteh said about 700 personnel from the PDRM, Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), and Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) participated in the Warriors' Day celebration. 'This year, PDRM was given the honour of co-chairing the event with DBKK, and we are thankful everything went smoothly. 'Activities went according to plan, including the Tanduo Pentomin performance.
