Durian farmer caught with 919kg of Musang King, D24 from protected forest
The four-hour patrol, which ended at 7am, led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man and the seizure of 919kg of durians worth about RM5,000.
Pahang Forestry Department director Zainuddin Jamaluddin said the grade C and D durians were believed to be for local markets.
Investigations showed the trees were located in Compartment 91 of the Gunung Benum Forest Reserve in Raub.
He said the department seized the vehicle and the durians under the National Forestry Act 1984 for encroachment and unlawful extraction of forest produce.
"The man who was detained was later released on police bail after providing a statement.
"The investigating officer will continue with the probe before legal action is taken for removing forest produce (durians) without authorisation," he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
Daily patrols have been conducted since July 21 following the launch of an integrated operation with the Royal Malaysia Police, the Pahang State Enforcement Unit, the General Operations Force (PGA), Rela, and the Raub District and Land Office.
"Gunung Benum Forest Reserve has become a site for illegal cultivation of durians and other fruit trees such as mangosteen, rambutan, petai, and kantan, believed to be planted by local residents," Zainuddin said.
He said the department would not compromise with those involved in illegal activities in the reserve.
More than 40 forestry personnel, along with officers from other agencies, are involved in the 60-day operation. Nine areas have been identified as hotspots for illegal farming.
He urged communities living near the forest reserve not to harvest or carry out activities in the area.
"Forest department enforcement units constantly patrol high-risk areas within the reserves. Aside from illegal farming, there are also individuals entering the forests for recreation. Entering a forest reserve requires a permit or official permission.
"We have placed numerous signboards stating that entry without authorisation is an offence. Everyone must comply to avoid facing legal action," he said.

Four-year-old boy falls to death from 8th-storey window in Klang
KLANG: A four-year-old boy died after he fell out of an eight-floor flat unit on Friday (Aug 1) morning. According to South Klang deputy OCPD Supt Kamalariffin Aman Shah said the incident occurred at the Port Klang Perantau Flats' Block J. "At the time of the incident, the boy's father was at his workplace, and the mother was out of the house sending her second child to the babysitters. "The victim is believed to have fallen out of a window of his home on the eighth floor," said Supt Kamalariffin. He added that police received a distress call reporting the incident from a woman at 8am. According to Supt Kamalariffin, the victim was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here for emergency treatment and pronounced dead during treatment. He said the post-mortem results indicated that the victim had suffered head injuries as a result of falling from a height. He also added that police opened an investigation under Section 31 (1) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect, which comes with a jail term of not more than 20 years and a fine not exceeding RM50,000. "The police are urging members of the public, with other information pertaining to this incident, to go to the nearest police station or contact the South Klang police at 03-33762222 to help with the investigations," he said.

Boy, 4, dies after fall from 8th floor flat
KUALA LUMPUR: A 4-year-old boy who fell from the 8th floor of the Sri Perantau Flats in Port Klang this morning has died from injuries sustained in the fall. South Klang deputy police chief Superintendent Kamal Ariffin Aman Shah, who confirmed the death, said police received a call around 8am from a member of the public reporting that a child had fallen from a building in the area. "At the time of the incident, the boy's father was at work, while the mother had stepped out to send their second child to the babysitter. "It is believed the victim fell from the window of their 8th floor flat," he said in a statement today. Kamal Ariffin added that the victim was rushed to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead during treatment at 9am. "A post-mortem revealed that the child sustained head injuries consistent with a fall from height. "The South Klang police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department has opened an investigation paper under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to RM50,000. "We ask anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the South Klang Police Headquarters at 03-33762222 to assist in the investigation," the statement read. Earlier, a video of the incident went viral on social media, showing chaos at the scene as residents gathered around the area. In the footage, a man can be heard sharing brief details about what had happened.
