ARNE ENGELS says Celtic's crushing victory over Newcastle can serve notice of their Champions League ambitions.
The Belgian scored from the spot as Celtic won 4-0 against the side who'll go straight into the group stages of European football's elite tournament after finishing fifth in the English Premier League.

The Hoops are desperate to get back to the Champions League group stage again this year
Celtic have to wait until the play-off round draw on August 4 to find out who they'll face to reach the group stage.
But Engels says Saturday's win shows they can cause top teams 'real pain'.
He said: 'One hundred percent the result was good for our confidence.
'It's a preseason game, so you never know how it will go, but it's always good to get good results against good opponents.
'It's up to us to now keep this going. We go to the Como tournament now and we'll see how it goes there.
'But it's up to us to just maintain the standards we've set for each other, and it's only going to get better and better.
'It's a big goal of ours, to reach the Champions League. In a few weeks, there will be really big games coming up.
'It's up to us to get physically really ready for those, and I'm sure we'll do great in those two games.
"We just want to get into the Champions League and see how it goes there.
'We set a really big standard for ourselves in the Champions League last season and that's also something we can reach again because we have a really good squad.

'But it's not as easy as saying 'You need to go further' because we did really great.
'It's up to us to show we're a really good squad and that we can cause a lot of teams real pain. We did that on Saturday so let's see how it goes.
"It was a really good game. We had good positions in possession, and we really played well.
'Physically we feel really good. In the pressing, we were amazing.
'Overall, it was a really good game and it's always nice to see 4-0 on the scoreboard.
"We have a lot of football qualities and sometimes it suits us better if the opponent is a bit bigger than us.
'It's the same in the league - a lot of opponents have a lot of big guys at the back.
'But it's then up to us to just go through it and try to play football on the ground, because in the air maybe you won't win it.
'But then you see with the second goal, where Kasper had the assist, that we can play in the air as well. We can mix it up."

The arrival of Swede Benjamin Nygren - a second-half sub on Saturday - adds more competition to the Celtic midfield, but Engels, who's been repeatedly linked with a move to Serie A Atalanta, says he's relishing that.
But he said: "It's always nice to get a lot of quality players in and it's up to us to show ourselves to the manager and everybody else in the stadium.
'There's always going to be competition everywhere, so it's just about keeping doing the right things that you always do.

"We have a really good squad and there will always be rumours about players coming in or going.
'It's up to us to keep this all inside. You saw on Saturday that we have a lot of quality already.
'We'll see what's going in and going out - we never know. But the squad here now is fantastic.
"Everybody who's come in is really impressing us. They're still settling in.
'But on Saturday you could see that they're adapting to the system, to the style of play and the fitness we ask from each other.
'I'm really happy with all the guys, not only in games but in training also.'

Liverpool set to announce Hugo Ekitike THIS WEEK after agreeing £79m transfer with Frankfurt

Near-£300million splurge could be offset by some big sales EKI THUMP Liverpool set to announce Hugo Ekitike THIS WEEK after agreeing £79m transfer with Frankfurt Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HUGO EKITIKE is expected to be confirmed as Arne Slot's latest signing this week after a £79million deal was agreed with Eintracht Frankfurt. The arrival of the France striker, 23, will take Liverpool boss Slot's summer spending spree to £270m — and he still wants Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi to partner Virgil van Dijk at the back. Any doubt the frontman would not be moving to Anfield was killed when Eintracht boss Dino Toppmoller left Ekitike out of Saturday's 3-2 friendly defeat by FSV Frankfurt. Toppmoller, 44, said: 'He didn't play but you can imagine everything else. It is a bitter loss. We lost our absolute top player in the winter with Omar Marmoush. 'The other player stepped in and developed sensationally. It's quite possible that that's history, too.' Alexander Isak's agent breaks silence on Newcastle star's future amid Liverpool interest - after striker misses Magpies' first pre-season friendly

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak's agent has opened up on the striker's future amid interest from Liverpool. The Premier League champions are ready to break the British transfer record to sign Isak, despite already spending £116m on Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen this summer. The 25-year-old will cost in advance of £125m and the Reds will move if they receive encouragement from Newcastle. However, the Magpies have made it clear that he is not for sale - prompting Liverpool to shift their focus to Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike in a potential £82million move. Isak's agent has now spoken out on the player's future in an interview with Saudi Arabian media - with the star also attracting interest from clubs in the Gulf state. 'We are indeed studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player,' Gonzalo Gaitan told Saudi newspaper Arriyadiyah. 'Without revealing any details regarding whether Isak will transfer or stay with Newcastle.' Isak was left out of Newcastle's 4-0 pre-season defeat to Celtic, with manager Eddie Howe later admitting the decision was due to ongoing speculation over the striker's future. Howe said speaking after the friendly match: 'I chose to send him home. 'The last thing Alex wants if he is not playing is to be sat in the stand and under that scrutiny, then if he wasn't going to play today, we mutually agreed he shouldn't be here. 'It was my decision. He travelled back to Glasgow with us, but I decided to send him home due to the speculation around him. Both [Joelinton and Isak] are fit but not ready to play. Alex has trained and is fine but we didn't want to take the risk with him. 'Yes, I've had discussions with him, but that's not abnormal,' he added. 'I respect a player's career and how short it is. Alex has been really good, he's trained really well and I realise there'll be noise around him. 'We have a few of those players who are irreplaceable. Your top players are so hard to find, so hard to recruit and so hard to develop. So when you have them, you need to treasure them. Of course we're desperate to keep him as part of our team. 'I think it's difficult for me to ever give 100 per cent clarity on any player, I'd never do that. 'All I can say is Alex is happy at Newcastle, he loves the players, the staff, the team. I've never had any issue with him and I'm confident he's going to be here at the start of the season.' Isak has established hismelf as one of the Premier League's best strikers since joining from Real Sociedad in 2022. He has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances for Newcastle across all competitions - including one in the Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool last season.
