PM to roll out Mahapurush Adarsh Gram Yojana in Odisha on June 20
The state government has set an ambitious target of constructing over five lakh houses under the scheme with an investment of Rs 7,500 crore. Majhi had launched the scheme at Bhawanipatna on March 30 and distributed 60,000 work orders in the first phase.
The prime minister is scheduled to arrive in Bhubaneswar at 3 pm on June 20. He will participate in a Tiranga Yatra, to mark the success of 'Operation Sindoor', from the airport to AG Square. A roadshow of the prime minister has also been planned from AG Square to Janata Maidan where he will attend the first anniversary celebration and address a public meeting, BJP sources said.
'This will be the sixth visit of the PM to Odisha in the last one year after BJP came to power. This reflects his commitment and continued support to the state under his Purvodaya Mission'. He wants to see Odisha become the growth-engine of eastern India,' said Panchayati Raj minister Rabi Narayan Naik.
Naik said the Mahapurush Adarsh Gram Yojana envisages all-round development of the villages of the illustrious persons to honour their contribution to the state. The villages will be converted into destinations for people to visit and gain inspiration, he said.

Will not rest until Cong removed from power in Karnatak: Kumaraswamy
Bengaluru, Jun 15 (UNI) Asserting a relentless political campaign against the Congress, Union Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday vowed not to rest until the grand old party is removed from power in Karnataka. "I will not rest until Congress is completely sent home," Kumaraswamy declared while addressing party workers at the JD(S) membership drive launch event at the party headquarters here. Sharpening his attack on the state government, Kumaraswamy questioned the Congress administration's priorities. Referring to the Rs 92 crore sanctioned for Cauvery Aarti, he said, "Why is such a huge amount needed? Is it only to perform aarti for the faces of Congress leaders?" He mocked the Congress party's claim of transforming Bengaluru into Singapore, pointing to civic failures during recent rains. "We've seen their model, just look at the condition in Sai Layout when it rained. Is this the Singapore they promised?' he asked. Accusing the government of failing to generate employment, Kumaraswamy also took a swipe at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, saying he behaves like a CM "only on the steps of Vidhana Soudha," citing the recent Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede, in which 11 people lost their lives, as an example of administrative negligence. The JD(S) leader expressed confidence that a JD(S)-BJP coalition government would come to power in the future. "Let there be no doubt about our alliance. There is no confusion between BJP and JD(S). Seat-sharing is my responsibility. Strengthen your constituencies. All decisions will be taken at the Centre," he said. He dismissed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's claims that JD(S) is finished and underlined the turnout at the party event as proof of continued grassroots support. "Such misinformation campaigns will not work. Today's gathering is the answer." Kumaraswamy said he accepted the role of Union Minister out of compulsion, acknowledging that party organisation had slowed down. However, he praised JD(S) Youth Wing President Nikhil Kumaraswamy for taking the lead to revive the party. "Earlier, he hesitated to visit constituencies. Now, he is actively reaching out to party workers." Rejecting criticism that JD(S) is a family-run party, Kumaraswamy took a jibe at the Congress leadership. "Do poor people go near the houses of Siddaramaiah or Deputy CM DK Shivakumar? When we won, we didn't become arrogant. When we lost, we didn't break down." He also reflected on his personal health struggles. "I have undergone three heart surgeries and twice faced pleural complications. Govt eases funding rules for R&D, research heads can now approve global tenders up to Rs 200 crore
In a major boost to India's research and innovation sector, the government on Sunday announced key reforms to ease financial restrictions and improve the day-to-day functioning of academic and research institutions. One of the biggest changes is that heads of research institutions will now be allowed to approve global tenders up to Rs 200 crore without requiring multiple layers of approval. This move is expected to speed up the procurement of scientific equipment and resources significantly. Addressing the press conference in the national capital, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology (Independent Charge), Dr. Jitendra Singh, said these long-awaited decisions aim to enhance the 'Ease of Innovation' and 'Ease of Doing Research' across the country. The Minister added that this historic shift was made possible due to the personal support and encouragement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has consistently backed science and youth-led innovation as key pillars of India's growth. Earlier, scientists and research scholars often faced frustrating delays because of financial ceilings and complex procurement procedures. For example, if an institution wanted to purchase high-end equipment from abroad, it had to seek approvals through long bureaucratic processes, sometimes delaying critical research work by months. The new rules will now allow institutions to fast-track such purchases, especially those that require global tenders. Dr Singh said that while more autonomy is being given, it comes with the responsibility to maintain transparency and integrity. "We are trusting our scientific community to use this freedom wisely. These reforms are built on a foundation of trust and accountability," he said. The changes follow strong recommendations from the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and the office of the Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA), which highlighted how well-intentioned rules were creating bottlenecks instead of supporting scientific progress. This policy shift also ties in with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes flexibility in education and encourages research-led learning. Dr Singh emphasised that if students are being empowered to shape their academic paths, research institutions should also be allowed the freedom to support those ambitions. He pointed out how earlier liberalisation in sectors like space and nuclear had shown great results. "India's space sector is now an $8 billion economy and is expected to grow fivefold. We want to replicate this success in the research and development sector as well," he said. The reforms are expected to particularly help young scientists, researchers, and startups, many of whom had expressed their concerns on social media about delays and hurdles in funding and procurement.

Reddy also conducted a field review of the ongoing Bharatmala project's Chennai-Surat highway construction near the mandal, highlighting that 52 kilometers of the highway are being laid in the district at a cost of ₹950 crore. He emphasized that such projects stand as strong testimony to the Modi government's commitment to infrastructure development and inclusive growth, particularly in rural and backward regions like Jogulamba Gadwal.
