Sital Sasthi concludes in Sambalpur
BJD district president and former minister Rohit Pujari urged the Centre to grant the national recognition to the festival. 'Sital Sasthi is not merely a festival, it has evolved into a grand platform for promoting art and culture. It brings together diverse dance and music traditions from across India, giving them a distinct identity,' he said.
Former chief minister Naveen Patnaik had approved financial grants for various Sital Sasthi committees, acknowledging the festival at the state level. It is now time for the central government to step in and grant it the national recognition it truly deserves, he added.
This year, Revenue and Disaster Management minister Suresh Pujari and his wife assumed the ceremonial role of Goddess Parvati's parents on behalf of Jhaduapada Sasthi Committee, offering her hand in marriage to Lord Shiva. The tradition, originating in the 17th century at the Someswar Baba temple in Balibandha, now includes several temples across the city.
The festival rituals, which began on May 27, transformed Sambalpur into a cultural and devotional hot spot. Around 8,000 artistes from across Odisha and other states performed in the vibrant carnival organised by Jharuapada, Nandapada, and Mudipada committees.
The district administration deployed around 75 platoons of police to ensure safety and manage crowds, with devotees arriving from across western Odisha and neighbouring Chhattisgarh. Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Deputy CM KV Singhdeo and several other dignitaries attended the festivities on Sunday.

Centre approves two semiconductor units for Odisha
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday said the Union Cabinet's approval for the establishment of two semiconductor units in Odisha will accelerate the state's growth in the CM expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the Centre's approval of the two semiconductor units in Odisha. Opposition BJD, which had announced the Odisha Semiconductor Manufacturing and Fabless Policy 2023, said: "While other states were only announcing semiconductor units in 2024, the decision by the Union Cabinet to approve two such units in Odisha today is truly commendable." BJD senior vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra at a press conference here, expressed confidence that the state government will take proactive steps to develop the required supporting ecosystem for these units within the stipulated in the day, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved four more semiconductor projects under India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), two of which will come to Odisha and one each for Punjab and Andhra Pradesh. After the Union Cabinet meeting, Vaishnaw said that a silicon carbide semiconductor plant will be set up in Bhubaneswar with an investment of Rs 2,066 crore by SiCsem. "Silicon carbide is a very robust material and can sustain at high temperatures. Silicon carbide is used in our missiles, satellites, telecom towers, rockets, railway engines, etc," Vaishnaw said. The minister said that the plant will have a capacity to produce 9.6 crore chips per Cabinet also approved US chip major Intel-backed 3D Glass semiconductor manufacturing unit in Odisha with an investment of Rs 1,943 crore. This compound semiconductor fab will have an annual capacity of 60,000 wafers and packaging capacity of 96 million units. The proposed products will have applications in missiles, defence equipment, electric vehicles (EVs), railway, fast chargers, data centre racks, consumer appliances, and solar power inverters, an official statement said.3D Glass Solutions Inc (3DGS) will be setting up a vertically integrated advanced packaging and embedded glass substrate unit in Info Valley, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. Centre tables insolvency amendment bill, seeks to introduce creditor-initiated process
The Centre on Tuesday tabled the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the Lok Sabha. The objective of the bill is to insert certain new provisions for effective implementation of the code. The amendments aim to reduce delays, maximise value for all stakeholders, and improve governance of all processes under the code. 'They seek to modify existing provisions to better align with the overall objectives of the Code and to introduce new provisions that follow global best practices for resolving insolvency,' as per the statement of objects and reasons of the bill. The bill introduces the concept of creditor-initiated insolvency resolution with an out-of-court initiation mechanism for genuine business failures to facilitate a faster and more cost-effective process. The bill also introduces provisions for group insolvency and cross-border insolvency. 'The cross-border insolvency framework seeks to lay the foundation for protecting stakeholder interests in domestic and foreign proceedings, promoting investor confidence and aligning domestic practices with international best practices,' according to the statement of objects and reasons of the bill.
