Watch Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard with Jon Gruden in QB Class
Since Jon Gruden retired from coaching the NFL, he's taken up a broadcasting role and started up a series called QB Class, with its newest episode staring Notre Dame's Riley Leonard.
The former Super Bowl winning head coach loves the now former Irish quarterbacks game, immediately comparing his running style to that of former Auburn Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton. Gruden went over Leonard's who career, starting out with his recruitment, which was significantly different than most. His only offer out of high school was from Duke, and he never actually made any visits.
The conversation continued with his tough start with the Blue Devils, going through a head coaching change there with former Irish assistant Mike Elko and how important that relationship was to his growth and development. The two also talked about Leonard's time in South Bend, which was the highlight of the episode for me.
It was great hearing about his experience, how much it impacted him, and the fact that he grew so much from working with offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock running a pro-style offense. Check out the full episode of QB Class starring Riley Leonard below.

49ers comment on severity of Jauan Jennings' calf injury
San Francisco fans are anxious to get the news that fifth-year pro Jauan Jennings is back working in practice and seriously ramping up his return for the 2025 NFL season. But, 49ers fans will have to wait longer for that bit of good news. And until he's back suited up and catching the football, there will be a faction of the fan base that wonders if there's more to the story. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked on Monday if there is any concern from the coaching staff regarding the severity of Jennings' calf injury and if it could play out similarly to Christian McCaffrey's calf injury and Achilles tendonitis that morphed into much worse. "No. McCaffrey's was Achilles Tendonitis that had been bothering him for a while and never got better. Jauan is a calf that he missed all last training camp with. It is something that we don't think will be too serious, but it's bothering him now. Depending on how much he misses, I mean, I always want guys out there. It helps him, it helps the team. But, Jauan was alright last year too missing some time," Shanahan said. It's in line with the tone that Shanahan struck following the 49ers' preseason opener against the Denver Broncos on Saturday night. Shanahan was asked point blank if Jennings' absence is more about securing a new contract. "No, not at all. And this is actually why Jauan missed OTAs is because of his calf. It's the same injury he had last year during training camp, which made him miss a couple weeks during training camp last year. "We didn't get him until the end of training camp last year and it's the same thing on the MRI and it's the same thing he's going through. But, hopefully we'll get him back sooner than later," Shanahan said. Jennings led all 49ers wide receivers in receiving yardage last season with 975 yards on 77 catches with six touchdown grabs. As he enters the final year of his current deal, Jennings has reportedly requested a new contract from the 49ers this offseason.

NFL executives rank former LSU football QB Joe Burrow in the same tier as Patrick Mahomes
Former LSU football quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels earned high praise from a survey of 50 NFL coaches and executives. In the 2025 preseason quarterback tiers released by The Athletic, Burrow and Daniels landed in tiers one and two, respectively. Burrow was a unanimous tier one choice for the first time, while Daniels set a record for the ranking series with the highest debut by a second-year quarterback. Burrow and Patrick Mahomes were both unanimous selections to the top tier. Heading into his sixth NFL season with the Cincinnati Bengals, Burrow led the league in attempts, completions, yards, and touchdowns last year. One head coach told The Athletics that Burrow is "the closest thing to Joe Montana that I have seen. A defensive coordinator said of Daniels, "What I respect most is it never seems too big for him." Daniels earned 17 tier one votes in 2025, which breaks a record for second-year players set by C.J. Stroud last year. He took the Washington Commanders to the NFC Championship as a rookie and won the league's rookie of the year honor. Burrow and Daniels both had illustrious careers at LSU, each winning the Heisman Trophy. Burrow led LSU on a 15-0 national championship season in 2019, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest college quarterbacks of all time.
