VALR Champions New Financial Order at Istanbul Blockchain Week

VALR, Africa's largest crypto exchange by trade volume, proudly concluded its sponsorship of Istanbul Blockchain Week, held on June 26-27, 2025, in Istanbul, Türkiye. The event provided a platform for VALR's leadership to share their vision for a transformed global financial system, with a keynote address by Co-founder and CEO Farzam Ehsani and a panel discussion featuring Co-founder and Chief Product Officer Badi Sudhakaran.
In his keynote, Ehsani delivered a compelling assessment of the state of global finance, emphasizing the unraveling of outdated systems and the emergence of a new world order grounded in the oneness of humanity. Quoting the prophetic words of Bahá'u'lláh written in the heart of the Ottoman Empire in the late 1860s, Ehsani noted, 'The world is in travail, and its agitation waxeth day by day…Soon will the present-day order be rolled up, and a new one spread out in its stead.' He connected this vision to the evolution of money, advocating for a global currency to replace fragmented, nationalism-driven systems.
Citing a 1999 statement from the Bahá'í International Community, written a decade before Bitcoin's launch, Ehsani highlighted how it would be difficult to 'exaggerate the psychological and social impact of the anticipated replacement of the jumble of existing monetary systems…by a single world currency operating largely through electronic impulses.' His speech underscored the crypto industry's purpose: to empower people, promote global justice, and build a financial system that reflects humanity's fundamental oneness.
Badi Sudhakaran, VALR's Co-founder and Chief Product Officer, furthered this narrative in a distinguished panel on the evolution of crypto exchanges. He emphasized how exchanges can drive industry progress by aligning with principles of fairness and service to humanity, reinforcing VALR's commitment to advancing the crypto ecosystem with purpose.
Ben Caselin, VALR's Chief Marketing Officer, commented: 'Partnering with Istanbul Blockchain Week allowed us to explore this significant market as we continue to expand globally. More importantly, it was an opportunity to contribute to industry discourse, rooted in VALR's values-driven mission to serve humanity. The positive reception to our vision and products is a source of optimism, reinforcing the idea that the success of our industry ultimately depends on our ability —in word and deed– to commit to higher principles and purpose.'

Tom Lee's $5 Billion Ethereum Bet Puts Bitcoin Maximalists On Notice

Benzinga and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue on some items through the links below. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) maximalists typically call their coin "digital gold." But Tom Lee, Fundstrat co-founder and now chairman of Bitmine Immersion Technologies Inc (NYSE:BMNR), is maximizing the potential of a different digital asset — Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH). Lee's company, in just 35 days, has quietly built the largest corporate Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) treasury in the world—$5.26 billion worth of ETH. Track $ETH price surge . From Bitcoin Miner To Ethereum Whale Bitmine, once a traditional Bitcoin miner, flipped the script by pausing BTC mining and going all-in on Ethereum. Backed by Peter Thiel, the firm scooped up 833,137 ETH at an average price of $3,492 per coin. It didn't stop there—Lee doubled down during a price crash, adding another $130 million worth of Ethereum. Don't Miss: The same firms that backed Uber, Venmo and eBay are investing in this pre-IPO company disrupting a $1.8T market — and you can too at just $2.90/share. 2,000 High Earners Manage $6B With This AI Platform — Book Your Private Demo The haul now totals 1.174 million ETH, making BitMine the third-largest public crypto treasury globally, behind only Strategy Inc (NASDAQ:MSTR) (aka MicroStrategy) and MARA Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MARA) (aka Marathon Digital). Stock Soars As Lee Doubles Down That kind of conviction has caught Wall Street's eye. Ethereum recently traded near $3,679, up 40% over the past month, even while still 24% below its 2021 high. BMNR has rocketed over 725% year-to-date, peaking at $135 in July before settling near $58. For a company once synonymous with Bitcoin mining, the pivot has been nothing short of explosive. For Lee, who has made a career out of contrarian calls, the message is clear: Ethereum's utility—staking rewards, smart contracts, and scaling—outweighs Bitcoin's static "digital gold" narrative. Institutional investors may be starting to agree. As Lee himself argues, ETH is fast becoming a Wall Street favorite, offering yield and real-world functionality that Bitcoin can't match. Whether Ethereum can overtake Bitcoin in market dominance remains an open question. Indeed, it has a long way to go. Between Aug. 11–15, Ethereum spot ETFs saw a record $2.85 billion inflow—the largest weekly gain ever. Meanwhile, Bitcoin spot ETFs drew $548 million. U.S.-listed ETH ETFs now hold $28.15 billion (5.34% of ETH's market cap), compared with Bitcoin's $151.98 billion (6.54% of BTC's market cap). Bitcoin ETFs Shed $645M This Week as Wall Street Retreats Ahead of Powell Speech

Bitcoin exchange-traded funds bled $645 million over two trading sessions as institutional investors pulled capital from crypto markets, a major reversal since the digital asset's summer rally began stalling. Bitcoin ETFs saw $121.7 million in outflows on Monday and $523.3 million on Tuesday according to Farside Investors data, while Ethereum funds mirrored the weakness with $196.6 million and $422.2 million withdrawn on the same days. Fidelity's FBTC led the exodus with $246.9 million in redemptions, while Grayscale's GBTC shed $115.5 million and Bitwise's BITB lost $86.8 million across the two-day period. Investors derisking ahead of Powell speech Illia Otychenko, lead analyst at told Decrypt that spot Bitcoin ETFs are seeing outflows as investors "scale back risk ahead of the Jackson Hole meeting and Jerome Powell's speech on Friday." The latest withdrawals break momentum from mid-July through early August, when Bitcoin ETFs saw $4.7 billion in inflows at roughly $135 million a day. Invest in Gold Thor Metals Group: Best Overall Gold IRA Priority Gold: Up to $15k in Free Silver + Zero Account Fees on Qualifying Purchase American Hartford Gold: #1 Precious Metals Dealer in the Nation Otychenko attributed the selling to weak job growth combined with mixed inflation data that "left the Fed in a difficult spot, leaving the markets more uncertain about the path of future rate cuts." Net Taker Volume, which tracks whether buyers or sellers dominate exchange activity, plummeted to its 'lowest point since December 2021,' indicating widespread selling pressure, he said. The analyst noted that Bitcoin's rallies since March have followed a weakening pattern, with "each breakout weaker, with smaller price moves and lighter trading volume." Dean Chen, analyst at Bitunix, shared similar sentiment, telling Decrypt the outflows stem from two main drivers: macro de-risking as "U.S. PPI came in hotter than expected" and issuer-level profit taking ahead of Powell's Jackson Hole speech. SEC Punts on Trump Media Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF Decision, Plus XRP and Dogecoin Funds He noted that BlackRock's IBIT recorded zero flow, which "tells us this is more tactical de-risking than broad institutional exit." Konstantin Anissimov, global CEO of also remarked to Decrypt the outflows represent "a broad de-risking move rather than a problem with any single ETF." He pointed out that redemptions shifted from BlackRock and ARK on Monday to Fidelity, Grayscale, and Bitwise the following day, showing "investors across the board are taking some chips off the table." Despite the substantial ETF outflows, Bitcoin's price is down just 1.5% on the day according to CoinGecko data, which Anissimov attributed to buyers using "$32 billion in stablecoin cash sitting on exchanges" to absorb the selling. He characterized institutional sentiment as "cautious right now, but not panicked," calling the movement "short-term profit-taking" rather than a fundamental shift. Markets now enter a critical waiting period as Powell's address approaches, with institutional flows likely to remain volatile until monetary policy clarity emerges. Sign in to access your portfolio
