LaNorris Sellers: Preseason scouting report on the electric South Carolina QB

USA Today4 days ago
The athleticism and natural tools jump off the screen with Sellers, but he's far from polished as a passer. Listed at 6'3', 240 pounds, Sellers is a brickhouse that's tough to bring down in the pocket. He has twitchy feet, excellent balance to bounce off contact, and borderline excellent strength to shrug off defenders.
However, his pocket awareness and ball security need improvement. He'll also need to be better at staying calm when the pocket squeezes around him.
Sellers is below average as a passer. He consistently favored shorter throws on film and was hesitant to let it rip downfield or over the middle. There were fewer play actions or longer-developing route concepts in South Carolina's repertoire last year, but he wasn't quick to pull the trigger when those plays came up.

That said, there were excellent flashes when he stood tall in the pocket and delivered throws from a solid base.
His arm strength is just average, but the bigger concern is his accuracy. Sellers was inconsistent at all levels, and his sloppy mechanics hurt his ball placement. He's frustrating to watch because he struggles to throw into tighter windows, and typically bails before routes naturally come open.
Sellers was very much a 'see it, throw it' guy last year, reading half the field before taking off. His limited play time showed most in this area.
Luckily, his legs are a legitimate NFL-ready weapon. He's an exceptional athlete with toughness to break through contact and good hip wiggle to make defenders miss in space. Sellers has homerun speed and is borderline unstoppable once he gets rolling (Hello Clemson).
Sellers is a young, exciting QB with a ton of upside given his size, toughness, and running ability. However, he needs a lot of development as a passer.

Atlanta Falcons training camp: Highlights, updates from Day 3

Training camp is in full swing for the Atlanta Falcons. The team completed its third practice on Sunday morning, and Falcons legend Matt Ryan even stopped by to get a look at the new crew. While Atlanta has been cautious with players thus far, things got a little testy between the offense and defense. Center Ryan Neuzil, rookie James Pearce Jr., guard Matthew Bergeron and linebacker Leonard Floyd got into a minor scuffle. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich didn't like what happened but said he was pleased with Pearce's ability to make "amazing plays" after the incident, per 11Alive reporter Maria Martin. The Falcons practiced without their other first-round pick, Jalon Walker, along with defensive lineman Zach Harrison and wide receiver Darnell Mooney. While there's been no major update on Mooney's status, ESPN and NFL Network reported that he would be out a "few weeks." The team is off Monday but will return on Tuesday for a fully padded practice. The Falcons' video team released a highlight compilation from Day 3 on the team's official YouTube channel. Watch below. Steelers HC Mike Tomlin reveals his most anticipated training camp matchup

With the first week of Steelers training camp in the books, HC Mike Tomlin is excited for what lies ahead — particularly one matchup between an accomplished pass-catching running back and a great second-year linebacker. Following Sunday's practices at training camp, Tomlin shared which matchup he's looking forward to the most next week when pads come on — and it's the meeting of RB Kenneth Gainwell and LB Payton Wilson. "I like Kenny G versus Payton Wilson in routes," Tomlin told reporters. "Kenny G has shown a really good aptitude, from a route-running standpoint out of the backfield. Payton Wilson, in his second year, is a guy that's working to be dominant in that area. It's just one of those matchups that has my attention." Wilson was drafted with the 98th overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft — and make a strong impression during his rookie year with the Steelers. Gainwell, who spent the past four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, signed with Pittsburgh this offseason — a fantastic fit in a completely restructured Steelers running back room. All eyes will be on these two Steelers when training camp returns on Tuesday, July 29 — a showdown that clearly has the full attention of the longest-tenured NFL head coach. One International Game Every Year for Each NFL Team is on 'The Horizon'

Could an increase in international regular-season games a year be in the near future for the NFL? It's certainly a possibility. In fact, an "international game every year for every team" is "probably on the horizon," according to Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, per NBC Sports. Blank's comments during an interview at Falcons training camp on Saturday come months after league commissioner Roger Goodell said last fall that the NFL wants to stage 16 international games per year. The league is limited to a maximum of 10 international games per year under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, but that number is reportedly widely expected to increase to 16 in the next labor deal. With 32 NFL teams, that would be a big lift for the league to schedule that many international games every season. In May, the league announced the full matchups for all but one game in its record seven-game international slate, which includes the Minnesota Vikings playing back-to-back games in different European countries (Ireland and England). The one matchup that hasn't been announced is who the Los Angeles Chargers will play in Week 1 in Brazil. The current schedule is: Week 1 (Friday, Sept. 5): TBD vs. Chargers at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil (Time TBD) Week 4 (Sunday, Sept. 28): Vikings vs. Steelers at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland (9:30 a.m. ET) Week 5 (Sunday, Oct. 5): Vikings vs. Browns at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England (9:30 a.m. ET) Week 6 (Sunday, Oct. 12): Broncos vs. Jets at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England (9:30 a.m. ET) Week 7 (Sunday, Oct. 19): Rams vs. Jaguars at Wembley Stadium in Wembley, England (9:30 a.m. ET) Week 10 (Sunday, Nov. 9): Falcons vs. Colts at Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Germany (9:30 a.m. ET) Week 11 (Sunday, Nov. 16): Commanders vs. Dolphins in Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain (9:30 a.m. ET) Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
