Shedeur Sanders helps organize community event after East Cleveland fire
Sanders, the Cleveland Browns' fifth-round rookie quarterback, helped organize and hosted a community event in East Cleveland on Wednesday, according to ESPN. One of the main goals of the event was to bring together the community after an explosion and fire at an apartment complex in late June killed one man and destroyed more than 40 units.
The Garden Valley Fun Fest included free food from food trucks, free haircuts, games and other activities. Sanders, along with Browns defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr., reportedly took pictures and chatted with fans for hours before putting together "an impromptu game of football with kids."

"I just wanted a day for everybody to get out here and have some type of enjoyment, excitement, bring just the family atmosphere back," Sanders said, according to News 5 Cleveland.
The Browns selected Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft in late April. He said on his introductory press conference call shortly after the Browns drafted him that "I'll be more involved in the community." He's making good on that promise before he has even played a snap.
Sanders is expected to battle for the Browns' starting quarterback job throughout training camp and the preseason. He's one of five quarterbacks Cleveland has on its roster, along with veterans Joe Flacco, Deshaun Watson and Kenny Pickett, plus fellow rookie and 2025 third-round pick Dillon Gabriel.
The Browns' rookies are due to report to training camp Friday, with veterans to follow suit on Tuesday, July 22.

Former Browns RB Nyheim Hines ready for NFL return
A Former Cleveland Browns running back is preparing a major bounce-back to the NFL after recovering from a disastrous knee injury. Nyheim Hines, one of the best return men in the NFL, is ready to return after suffering a traumatic knee injury in a jet ski accident. The 2023 injury ruptured his ACL and LCL, requiring multiple surgeries. It has kept Hines out of the NFL for two seasons. The Cleveland Browns signed Hines last year, but placed him on the non-football injury list at the start of the season. The team released him in February of this year. Hines isn't letting anything stop his comeback. He sat down with the Charlotte Observer on the anniversary of his accident to discuss his life and return to the NFL. Hines, a North Carolina native and North Carolina State alumnus, was candid when talking about his injury and motivations. Hines has faced a tough time recovering from his injury. The injury was a random, off-the-field, career-threatening injury. It was a struggle for him to deal with the senseless nature of the accident. It was even harder going online and seeing people make callous remarks about the injury, dressed up as humorous. Hines relied on his family, therapist, agent, and trainer following his injury. He wasn't the only person in his family suffering from a debilitating medical emergency. Hines' mother, Nannette Miller, was placed on life support around the start of the 2023 NFL season. Over the next few months, she recovered from her medical scare and returned to their home in December. His family suffers from a genetic muscular dystrophy disease. The disease took the life of his grandmother, Clotiel Miller, in 2004. His uncle also suffers from the disease. Hines got a tattoo on his left wrist featuring green ribbons, the symbol for muscular dystrophy awareness. Hines is motivated to resume his NFL career for himself and his Hines never played a down for Cleveland, he did get a major takeaway from the Browns. Hines found a lot of motivation rehabbing besides Nick Chubb. He told the Observer: 'I would say my biggest inspiration is Nick Chubb. I met him month eight of my surgery (recovery) when I signed in April (2024). We did everything together. And he came off a catastrophic injury before this, so I leaned on him a lot.' Hines is ready to resume his NFL career. He hasn't touched a field in over 900 days since his injury. However, he's prepared to play again. The NFL is in a state of constant desperation for special teams talent. Hines has been a dangerous return man during his NFL career. He should have an opportunity to play under the dynamic kick return rule. Hines is a special talent; it'd be a shame if he never got another shot in the NFL. Browns CB Denzel Ward earns acclaim from NFL personnel
As long-time Cleveland Browns cornerback Denzel Ward prepares to start his eighth NFL season, he still finds himself viewed as one of the NFL's very best. On Thursday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wrapped up his annual positional top ten lists, compiled from polling the opinions of the league's coaches, executives, and scouts, and the final installment ranking the NFL's cornerbacks featured a pleasant surprise with Ward landing at No. 3. The high ranking is a strong endorsement for Ward, as he ranked only behind reigning Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II and Houston Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., who was given a record-setting extension in March. Even as the Browns' defense took a step back last season from the phenomenal highs the unit displayed in 2023, Ward maintained his usual high level of play and earned the fourth Pro Bowl selection of his career. Here is what one NFL defensive coach had to say about Ward: "Really good feet, smooth, comfortable with the ball in the air… he's been good for a long time. Has God-given talent that you can't really match." 2025 marks the sixth straight year that Ward has ranked within the top ten of Fowler's survey, a testament to how consistent the former fourth-overall pick has been for the Browns defense.
