3 reasons the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid is in a lane of its own

Are we living in the golden age of three-row SUVs? Brands like Toyota, Kia, Jeep, Hyundai, and more are producing competitive three-row SUV models. Recent advancements in hybrid tech have made these SUVs even more appealing because they can transport a large number of passengers without burning as much fuel as non-hybrid models. Though many three-row SUVs have strong value propositions, one Japanese model stands out from the pack: the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid. USA TODAY put this three-row hybrid SUV to the test to see if it's as value-packed in the real world as it is on paper. Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid's fuel economy is fantastic for its segment It's no secret that Japanese automaker Toyota has one of the best hybrid portfolios on the market. The brand has come a long way from its first mass-production hybrid, the Toyota Prius. Today, Toyota produces attractive hybrid cars, trucks and SUVs, utilizing the tech to provide power output boosts and conserve fuel for American drivers. The Grand Highlander Hybrid is no exception, bringing the best of Toyota hybrid tech to a nameplate that's practical for a large group of passengers. The base model Grand Highlander Hybrid LE earns an estimated 34 miles per gallon combined (with standard all-wheel drive). This is astounding for such a large all-wheel drive SUV. For context, the two-row Honda Passport midsize SUV achieves just 21 miles per gallon combined despite having less seating capacity. USA TODAY tested the Grand Highlander Hybrid MAX Platinum trim, which is more powerful and earns 27 miles per gallon combined. The three-row SUV's standard regenerative braking kept adding miles to the total driving range on a lengthy road trip during testing. One of the biggest issues with driving a larger vehicle (with lots of seats) is fuel costs. The Grand Highlander Hybrid MAX was affordable to refuel and it savored gas like a fine wine on the highway. Toyota's midsize three-row hybrid SUV won't break the bank Another issue that many American car buyers have with larger SUV models is pricing. Inflation and rising new car prices exacerbate this issue for many brands that produce three-row SUVs. The Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid provides the practicality of a three-row SUV with a unique hybrid powertrain setup without breaking the bank. The 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid starts at $44,210 with the base model Hybrid LE trim. The average new vehicle price in June was $51,124, according to automotive research company Cox Automotive. American car buyers can get either the base model Grand Highlander Hybrid LE or the Hybrid XLE ($45,380) with more features for less than the average new car price. Additionally, a study by found the Highlander Hybrid to be one of the longest-lasting cars. If the same holds true for the Highlander Hybrid-based Grand Highlander Hybrid, then the midsize three-row SUV has a strong long-term value proposition. 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid: Plenty of cabin, cargo space Toyota designed the Grand Highlander Hybrid's second and third rows of seats to be easily maneuverable, which is important for passenger comfort. The second row of seats can slide forward and bend, so hopping into the rear row of seats is a breeze. The third row of seats can be folded down completely for maximum cargo space. So, whether you need the most seating space possible or cargo space possible, adjustments can be made easily. The Grand Highlander Hybrid can comfortably seat seven. Drivers can choose to add a second-row bench seat for a total seating capacity of eight, leaving 20.6 cubic feet of cargo space. It has 57.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded. During testing, the Grand Highlander Hybrid's cargo area held four large beach chairs, a beach umbrella, a cooler and multiple backpacks. The Grand Highlander Hybrid is truly carving out a lane of its own due to its fuel efficiency, affordability, and size. It's one of the most attractive new SUV deals on the market for families. Charles Barkley blasts TNT over ESPN NBA trade in NSFW rant

The post Charles Barkley blasts TNT over ESPN NBA trade in NSFW rant appeared first on ClutchPoints. For the first time since 1989, the NBA will not be broadcast on TNT. And while that fact has been clear for some time now, Charles Barkley is still mad about it. Barkley, the star of TNT's crown jewel, 'Inside the NBA,' will still be a part of the league's national television programming. But it will not, of course, be on TNT; instead, he, Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O'Neal will occasionally appear on ESPN as part of a licensing deal in which 'Inside' will be produced by TNT's crew but broadcast on ESPN. The agreement, while helpful in partially justifying Barkley and Co.'s massive deals with Warner Bros. Discovery (TNT's parent company), remains a point of great annoyance for the former NBA star. 'TNT never came to us like grown folks and said, 'Hey guys, we're probably going to lose to NBA,' which we could have understood,' Barkley said on the 'Pardon My Take' podcast. 'But I thought they sucked. I told them they sucked. Because there's a way you treat people. Because if they had came to us and said, 'Hey, you know what? It's a lot of money.' Because, you know, we were paying 1.2 billion dollars a year and it went to 2.5 billion. That's a lot of money for 11 years. If they had said 'it's not a good deal,' we would have understood. But to let us hear about it — and I'll tell you something really s—-y about it, too: I found out that we got traded to ESPN from ESPN.' Barkley has been open in his discontent with WBD's leadership, although it has not changed much. 'Inside' is still scheduled to become a part of ESPN's NBA programming during the 2025-26 season, and TNT is still trying to come up with how to use Barkley, O'Neal, Johnson, and Smith without having the rights to the NBA. Barkley has said that they filmed an unaired pilot of sorts, which he said went disastrously and was acknowledged as such by the higher-ups in WBD. The NBA season is set to begin on Oct. 21. 'Inside' is expected to be a part of 'high-profile' games during the regular season, as well as postseason games. Connor Zilisch goes for fourth straight NASCAR Xfinity Series victory

It would be difficult to imagine a performance more dominant than the one JR Motorsports driver Connor Zilisch has fashioned over the last nine races since returning from a back injury he sustained at Talladega. In that span, Zilisch won four races, including the last three in a row. He also finished second three times, along with two more top-five finishes, to post an average finish of 2.1 since Charlotte. RELATED: | With his win last Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, he notched the 100th victory for JR Motorsports. At 19 years, 4 days, he's now the youngest driver to win three straight races in Xfinity Series history and to reach six career victories in the series, dethroning Joey Logano. All six of Zilisch's Xfinity wins have come in his series debuts at the respective tracks, a streak he'll attempt to maintain in Saturday's HyVee Perks 250 at Iowa Speedway (4:30 p.m. ET, The CW, MRN Radio, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). Only two drivers in series history have won four straight races: Sam Ard in 1983 and Noah Gragson in 2022. Though Zilisch has never raced an Xfinity Series car at Iowa Speedway, two facts argue in his favor: he won last year's ARCA Menards Series race at the 0.875-mile short track, and Sam Mayer won last year's race with Zilisch's current crew chief, Mardy Lindley, calling the shots from Mayer's pit box. 'I was fortunate enough to win the ARCA race at Iowa last year, so I'm looking forward to using what I learned in that race with a new challenge in the Xfinity car,' Zilisch said. 'My crew chief, Mardy Lindley, won the race there with Sam Mayer last year, so I know we'll have a really good KOA Chevrolet when we get to the track this weekend. 'We've been on a roll lately with top-five finishes and trips to Victory Lane, so I'm ready to get to the track and continue that.' The HyVee Perks 250 is the third of five short-track races on the Xfinity Series schedule this year, but neither of the winners of the first two such races will compete on Saturday. NASCAR suspended Martinsville winner Austin Hill for one race for intentionally wrecking Aric Almirola last Saturday at Indianapolis, and Bristol winner Kyle Larson is not doing double duty this weekend. Full-time Cup Series driver Austin Dillon will take Hill's place in the No. 21 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet at Iowa. With five races left in the Xfinity Series regular season, there are five berths left in the playoffs. Cousins Jeb Burton and Harrison Burton are on opposite sides of the eligibility bubble, with Jeb Burton holding a 10-point edge for the final spot in the playoffs.
