JDT coach seeks better balance despite 5-0 FA Cup win

The Sun2 days ago
JOHOR Darul Ta'zim (JDT) head coach Xisco Munoz acknowledged his team only settled into their rhythm after scoring the first goal in their 5-0 FA Cup win against UM-Damansara FC.
The match, held at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, saw JDT struggle initially before finding momentum.
Munoz highlighted the importance of the opening goal in shifting the game's dynamics.
'The first goal was crucial. Before that, we lacked rhythm, but afterward, the team played with more confidence and intensity,' he said.
He noted that scoring early allowed JDT to press harder and create more opportunities.
Despite the convincing win, Munoz insisted his team must improve, especially in home matches.
'At home, we must perform better. New players are still adapting to the intensity here,' he explained.
UM-Damansara FC suffered a setback when captain Hariz Mansor was sent off in the 38th minute.
JDT's Jonathan Silva scored twice, including a header in the second half, securing control of the match.
UM-Damansara FC coach Ridzuan Abu Shah praised his team's early performance despite the heavy defeat.
He attributed the loss partly to Mansor's red card disrupting their game plan. - Bernama

Negri thrash 10-man Police, KTRW stun KL City

KUALA LUMPUR: Negri Sembilan crushed 10-man Police 5-0, while KL City suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Kelantan The Real Warriors (KTRW) in the FA Cup round of 16 first leg matches on Monday. At the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi, Jovan Motika and Joseph Esso bagged a brace each as Negri effectively sealed the contest. Motika, a former KL City midfielder, opened the scoring in the third minute before Police's night took a disastrous turn when Noel Agbre was sent off in the ninth minute for fouling Esso outside the box. Motika doubled the lead in the 40th minute, timing his run perfectly to beat the offside trap, before Esso made it 3-0 just before the break. Police goalkeeper Ifwat Akmal Chek Kassim endured a torrid first half and was replaced by Fahmi Ikhwan Azmi at the interval. Fahmi managed to produce a couple of saves but could not prevent further damage as substitute Mio Tsuneyasu struck in the 75th minute. Four minutes later, Esso completed his brace to wrap up Negri's emphatic victory, leaving Police with a mountain to climb in the return leg. In Kota Bahru, KL City's hopes of returning to the FA Cup final took a severe dent as they fell 3-1 to KTRW. Nigerian striker Ifedayo Omosuyi gave the hosts a dream start with a fourth-minute opener and doubled his tally in the 14th minute to put KTRW firmly in control. Sean Selvaraj made it 3-0 in the 62nd minute before KL City pulled one back through Syamer Kutty Abba in the 86th. The City Boys were handed a lifeline when Ryan Lambert was fouled by Wan Amirul Afiq Wan Rahman inside the box in stoppage time, with VAR awarding a penalty to the visitors. However, Safawi Rasid failed to convert from the spot.

FA Cup: NSFC Beat PDRM 5-0, Kelantan TRW Down KL City 3-1

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) are likely to advance to the quarterfinal stage of the 2025 FA Cup after they beat PDRM FC 5-0 in the first leg of the Round of 16 at Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi tonight. NSFC showed their dominance by scoring in the first minute courtesy of a free kick by Jovan Motika from outside the penalty box and things got better when PDRM FC were forced to play with only 10 men when Agbre Noel received a red card for a foul on Joseph Esso in the ninth minute. Even with the one player advantage, the home team would have to wait till nearly the end of the first half to score their second goal through Motika in the 40th minute, and then a third by Esso just before the half time whistle blew.

Kelantan shine at home with superb win

PETALING JAYA: Kelantan made home advantage count in emphatic fashion, brushing aside Kuala Lumpur 3-1 in the FA Cup round-of-16 first leg at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru on Monday (Aug 18). The Red Warriors struck early through their captain Ifedayo Olusegun, who punished a poor backpass from KL's Ukrainian defender Dimitro Lytyn with a calm finish past goalkeeper Quincy Kammeraad in just the fourth minute. Olusegun doubled his tally 10 minutes later, reacting quickest to a fumble from Kammeraad after T. Saravanan's volley, before Sean Selvaraj extended the lead in the 61st minute by turning in Nor Azam Azih's corner. Kuala Lumpur managed to salvage some hope late on when substitute Syamer Kutty Abba volleyed home a Safawi Rasid corner in the 86th minute, giving them something to fight for in the return leg. The away side should have added a second in the dying stages of the game but Safawi slipped and blazed his penalty over the bar. Meanwhile in Paroi, Negri Sembilan delivered a dominant 5-0 win over Police at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium. Bosnian winger Jovan Motika opened the floodgates with a stunning 25-metre freekick inside the first minute, and Police's night worsened when Ivorian defender Noel Agbre was sent off in the 11th minute for a last-man foul. Motika netted again in the 40th minute, finishing off a pass from Japanese playmaker Takumi Sasaki, before Joseph Esso pounced on a rebound three minutes later for the Deer's third. The Ghanaian striker added another in the 83rd minute, while substitute Mio Tsuneyasu got on the scoresheet in the 77th to cap a commanding performance.
