15-yr-old raped in cattle shed, case lodged against two

1 2 Kanpur: A 15-year-old girl was raped in a cattle shed in Hamirpur district. A case has been lodged against two. Both the accused are absconding. The girl's father filed a complaint at Chikasi police station on Wednesday. In the complaint he stated that he left home with his wife on Aug 13 to visit his in-laws while his three daughters were at home. Upon returning on Aug 17, his daughter told him that on the evening of Aug 16 the accused took her to his cattle shed under the pretext of cooking food and locked her inside. Inside, another accused assaulted her. When she resisted, the accused threatened to kill her. Due to social stigma, her father did not report the incident for three days. However, he gathered courage and lodged a complaint on Wednesday. The Chikasi police, on the basis of the father's complaint, registered charges against both the accused. Station officer Santosh Kumar stated that charges were filed against the rape accused under assault and Pocso sections, and against his accomplice, the owner of the cattle shed, for criminal conspiracy. "A police team has been formed to arrest the accused, and they are expected to be apprehended soon," he said further. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). 101 detained under Goondas Act in Tirunelveli district since January

The Tirunelveli District Police have sent strong message to law-breakers, especially to criminals, history-sheeters and predators targeting women and children, by detaining 101 offenders under the provisions of Goondas Act during this year. Of this, 69 persons have been arrested in connection with murder, attempt to murder, robbery, burglary and dacoity cases and 21 others were detained in connection with POCSO and sexual assault cases. Eleven others had been arrested for peddling, stocking and smuggling banned narcotic substances. According to Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan, the district police is taking stringent action against the criminals, habitual offenders, drug peddlers andt smugglers etc. even as due review is done to monitor the progress of the criminal cases being tried in the courts. The witnesses are being encouraged to depose the truth before the court to strengthen the prosecution's case and to ultimately ensure the conviction of the accused. Hence, the witnesses are being given due protection by the police before and during the trial of the cases and even after the judgment is delivered. In some cases, the police had to take pre-emptive measures to discourage the accused from threatening or targetting the witnesses and their relatives. Thanks to these collective measures, the conviction rate in the criminal cases, especially in the murder and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) cases, has increased manifold, Mr. Silambarasan says. Meanwhile, C. Arun Pandian alias Maharajan, 24, of Munneerpallam and POCSO case accused P. Gopi Krishna, 20, of Vasavappapuram in Thoothukudi district were detained under the Goondas Act on Tuesday to take the total number of detenues under the Goondas Act to 101. 'Our drive against the criminals and their detention under the Goondas Act will continue,' Mr. Silambarasan assured.
