THE top 10 islands in the world have been revealed, from Italian paradise to popular Greek gems.
Online travel agency, Expedia, has formed its 'Hot List' for islands across the world, judging them on standout stays, affordability, flights and appeal - and there's one in particular that's very familiar to readers.

The island of Paros has become a standout name in 2025.
The Greek paradise was declared best in the world by Travel + Leisure - and has made it onto Expedia's Island Hot List too.
Paros forms part of the Cyclades Islands surrounded by the likes of Naxos, Milos and Antiparos.
We spoke to one holidaymaker who went to Paros recently, where she discovered beautiful beaches, traditional villages and a buzzing nightlife.
She also raved about the delicious seafood, hidden clubs and party boats.
Also on the list is Italy's Sardinia, which Expedia said boasts a "rugged coastline and hilltop villages."
Sardinia is a large Italian island in the Mediterranean Sea, and there's almost no end to the beaches as it has over 1,000 miles worth of coastline.
The standout island has attracted lots of holidaymakers over the years, including celebrities like George Clooney and Beyonce.
One visitor discovered sun-drenched beaches where waiters deliver cocktails directly to sunbeds.
On the island is even a little-known beach that has been compared to the Sahara Desert.

Aruba is on the hot list too and has incredible beaches

Found on the west coast of the Costa Verde coastline of the island is a beach called Spiaggia di Piscinas that has soft golden sands, clear blue waters.
It's where you'll find some huge dunes that look like they belong in the desert, and they rise up to heights of 60 metres.
These dunes are the reason it has been nicknamed 'Little Sahara of Italy'.
Also on the list was Aruba, which was also recently revealed to be the safest island in the Caribbean Sea.
Scoring 90 out of 100 - compared to the lowest being 34 for Puerto Rico - it is ranked one of the safest across the islands.
Not only that, it's known by locals as 'One Happy Island'.
It's not really a surprise because the island gets highs of 30C even in winter.
The island is much drier than others that surround it as it sits just outside of the hurricane belt.
Aruba is famous for having white sand beaches, and being home to Flamingo Beach where you can see the famous pink birds relaxing in shallow waters.

Koh Samui, Thailand's second largest island also found a place on the Island Hot List.
It's known for having incredible beaches, huge temples and vibrant nightlife.
Thanks to a very well-known TV series, White Lotus, Koh Samui is even more on the map.
The island also has an annual festival called Songkran which is a three-day celebration where people are armed with water pistols.
The festival traditionally runs April 13-15, which just happens to be during Thailand's hottest season.
One writer checked it out for herself and had an absolute blast.
Expedia also found a rising interest in other islands, particularly for Brits like Jersey, Crete, Malta and Madeira.
Plus, here are 20 of Europe's most beautiful islands that all have direct flights from the UK.
And check out the cheeky 48-hour holidays to Europe's best cities, beach towns and islands this summer from £167.

I spent three days in one of the world's best ‘stopover' cities and found beautiful hiking islands and rooftop pools

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HEADING on a long-haul getaway this summer? Asia's most cosmopolitan city, Hong Kong, is a great stopover destination for anyone looking to break up the journey. But don't just take my word for it. Last year alone saw Hong Kong International Airport serve more than 53 million passengers. And tourists are flocking to the city. Getting into the city from the airport was easy on the Airport Express train, which took 24 minutes and cost just HK$ 115, about £11. My home for the duration was the Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbour hotel, which has 665 rooms, with panoramic views of the waterside. The kingsize bed surrounded by windows was not only a welcome comfort after a long flight, but the views made it easy to map out activities for our short visit. If you'd rather take in the fresh air after being stuck on a plane, there's also a photogenic rooftop pool, equipped with a sauna and steam room, and a slick 24-hour gym — great for jetlag. We quickly learned that exploring the city by public transport is cheap and stress-free using a rechargeable Octopus smart card, which covers the trains, buses, ferries, coaches and trams. But we were keen to use our feet — and luckily found just the place to do that. Lantau is the largest of the Hong Kong archipelago's 260 islands and easy to reach via the Ngong Ping 360 cable car over tree-covered mountain tops. The journey to the top is an experience in itself, offering a breathtaking view of the city as well as the astonishing Macau bridge, the world's longest sea crossing. Once at the peak you'll be in a hiker's paradise. Make sure you're wearing comfy footwear, as it's certainly worth making the 268-step climb to see the 112ft-high Big Buddha up close. I visited the pretty city that straddles both Asia and Europe The impressive bronze statue overlooking the South China Sea looked even more magnificent in real life than it does in pictures. Make sure, too, to pay a visit to the nearby Po Lin Monastry while you're here. The building dates to 1902 and monks still live here. Back on Hong Kong Island, if giant pandas are a must, head over to Ocean Park in the Southern District to see Ying Ying, who gave birth to twins last summer. You won't be disappointed. If it's good food you're after, you won't be short of options in Hong Kong. The restaurant scene in the city is buzzing, ranging from luxury options with jaw-dropping views of the skyline to lively night markets dishing up sizzling satay skewers for just a few pounds. Given our penchant for cocktails, we started our evening with Dirty Martinis at Felix on the 28th floor of The Peninsula, the city's oldest hotel which opened in 1928. Overlooking Victoria Harbour, where the lights shimmer in the evenings, this bar certainly has the wow factor — and not just because of its punchy tipples. Dining spectacular The views are equally impressive from Hutong restaurant, next door, which specialises in northern Chinese dishes. The dark, dramatic decor adds to the sultry atmosphere, taking inspiration from the ancient Chinese alleyways, or hutongs, and is punctuated with dozens of red paper lanterns. It attracts a lively international crowd and for good reason as its traditional tasting menus, designed around seasonal ingredients, are out of this world. The six-course dinner spectacular will set you back around £90 a head but you won't regret it — especially if you've never visited China before. We were served elegant plates of delicate dim sum crammed with meats, vegetables and pickles, indulgent Wagyu beef puffs, that were as moreish as they sound, and spicy prawns drenched in a fiery Sichuan dressing. 4 Head over to Ocean Park in the Southern District to see giant pandas Credit: CP Collective imagery The piece de resistance, however, was the flaming Peking duck, which is blazed under a flame to give it a crispy coating and carved table-side by a skilled chef. If you're after something a little more low-key yet still authentic, head to CView, perched on the 16th floor of the M+ cultural building in West Kowloon. The zen space has won awards for its knockout Shanghainese cuisine — think aromatic soups and freshly caught seafood like whole crab served with crispy rice. Bellies full, we meandered down the Avenue of Stars on the waterfront to see the Symphony of Lights — a nightly show that runs all throughout the year. Gazing out across the city, we marvelled as the buildings lit up in a kaleidoscope of colours. It sure made for a magical ending.

I went to the Canadian-style safari resort in Europe with American bison and new restaurants

You can sample bison burgers, steaks and more at the Canadian-style bar and restaurant SAFARI SO GOOD I went to the Canadian-style safari resort in Europe with American bison and new restaurants Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IN my best David Attenborough voice, I whisper: 'The majestic bison, shaggy giants of the plains, thunder across the fields in their hundreds.' It's baking hot and I'm rumbling along dusty tracks in an old army truck, my eyes peeled for the large animals. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 4 Canoe down the Varenne River in the afternoons Credit: Thomas Le Floc'H 4 Visit Chateau de Dieppe, the town's 15th-century castle Credit: Thomas Le Floc'H So far, so safari. However, I'm not roaming the Great Plains of North America, where they normally reside, but a little closer to home in the Eawy Forest in Normandy, France. A half-hour drive from Dieppe through ancient villages lies Parc Canadien, home to the largest herd of American bison in Europe. It opened in 1994 when a herd of North American bison were successfully released into the wilds of Normandy. Over the last 20 years, the herd has grown to more than 200. They have now been joined by stags, fallow deer and several packs of wolves. While the jeep tours are only conducted in French — we are given a laminated sheet of information from the desk — English guides can be booked in advance. Before spotting the bison, we trundle through Wolf Temple, a fenced-off part of the park where the wolves reside. There's plenty to do for an afternoon — canoeing down the Varenne River and walking tours around the wolf enclosure and mini farm. You can sample bison burgers, steaks and more at the Canadian-style bar and restaurant, with its log cabin walls and trophy skulls. New for 2025 is fast-food restaurant La Toundra, with sandwiches from £5.20 and full kids' meals with drinks, dessert and a present from £8.65. How to make your safari holiday more affordable - with quieter seasons and budget lodging You can even stock up on bison sausages and terrine from the farm's onsite butchery. Wildlife-spotting aside, a weekend in Dieppe has stacks of appeal. The ferry from Newhaven lands in Dieppe, on Normandy's Alabaster Coast, at 10pm and it's a 15-minute drive to the charming Hotel Aguado, where most rooms overlook the sea. As most places have stopped serving food at this late hour we hit the jackpot at a hole-in-the-wall joint called Big Al And Little Joe. This serves Lebanese-style flatbreads filled with salads, meats and sauces, which we ate al fresco listening to live jazz from the wine bar next door. Saturday is the best day to visit Dieppe, largely because of its brilliant market. Named the best market in France in 2020, the 200 or so stalls wind their way from Quai Henri IV through the town and sell everything from homemade wicker baskets and locally made Neufchatel cheese to fist-sized tomatoes and slabs of nougat. Shopping secured, do as the locals do and stop for a cold beer in Cafe des Tribunaux on Place du Puits-Salé, where Oscar Wilde used to drink. 4 Saturday is the best day to visit Dieppe, largely because of its brilliant market Credit: Supplied 4 Parc Canadien is home to the largest herd of American bison in Europe Credit: Supplied Visit Chateau de Dieppe, the town's 15th-century castle overlooking the sea, which has a maritime museum with paintings by Boudin, Lebourg and Pissarro. Don't miss a peek at Les Tourelles gate, the only surviving gate from the medieval ramparts, which were used as a prison during the French Revolution. Dieppe was considered France's first seaside resort some 200 years ago, and while the Belle Epoque architecture has largely been bombed away, it still has the largest seafront lawns in Europe and a grey-pebbled beach packed with locals splashing in the shallows. While bison and beaches are an excellent reason to visit, the highlight for me is dinner at La Marmite Dieppoise, a gorgeous Normandy restaurant just off the main drag. We feasted on oysters, fruits de mer and the house speciality, marmite Dieppoise — a creamy fish stew with turbot, monkfish and scallops pulled fresh from the sea that morning. When it comes to celebrating Anglo-French relations, a weekend in Dieppe is the way to go.
