‘Na bijli aayegi, na bill aayega': BJP minister takes sarcastic jibe at ally Nitish Kumar's free electricity promise
The UP minister was commenting on Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's announcement that free electricity will be provided up to 125 units in the state. 'Electricity is free in Bihar but it will be free only when it will be supplied... na bijli ayegi na bill ayega... free ho gayi. Hum bijli de rhe hain," news agency PTI quoted Sharma as saying.
The Bihar Cabinet on Friday cleared a proposal for providing 125 units of electricity free of cost every month to domestic consumers across the state starting August 1.
The cabinet cleared the proposal of the energy department during a meeting in Patna chaired by CM Nitish Kumar.
'The state government will pay additional ₹ 3,797 crore on electricity consumption to the Bihar State Power Holding Corporation Ltd for the purpose,' a statement issued by the state's Information and Public Relations Department (IPRD) said.
The Bihar government will also provide financial assistance for installing 1.1-KW capacity solar power plants on rooftops to domestic consumers, it said.
Kumar had on July 17 announced that all domestic consumers across the state will receive up to 125 units of electricity free of cost every month starting August 1. The decision is expected to benefit nearly 1.67 crore families in the state.
CM Kumar said that the government has also decided to install solar power plants on the rooftops or in the nearby public places of domestic consumers in the next three years.
"We have also decided that in the next three years, with the consent of all these domestic consumers, solar power plants will be installed on their rooftops or at nearby public places to provide benefits," the CM said.
Kumar further stated that the state government will fully cover the cost of installing solar power systems for extremely poor families, while others will receive suitable financial assistance under the Kutir Jyoti scheme.
He stated that the state could have up to 10,000 megawatts of solar energy available within the next three years.
The announcements came as a move to woo voters ahead of the state assembly elections scheduled for later this year.
Continuing with his string of poll sop announcements, a day earlier, Bihar CM Kumar directed the Education Department to promptly assess vacancies for teachers in government schools and initiate the process for conducting the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) 4.

UP prepares to commemorate 100 years of Kakori Train Action
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government will observe the 100th year of the Kakori Train Action with a string of activities, such as creative writing competitions and a Tiranga Mela, it said on Tuesday. On August 9, 1925, in Kakori, Indian freedom fighters looted the treasury of the British government to buy arms for their fight against the British Raj. In 1927, Ram Prasad 'Bismil', Ashfaqulla Khan and Thakur, and Roshan Singh were hanged by the British government for their involvement in the incident. The culture department of the government has announced Prabhat Pheri, a motorcycle rally, an exhibition of the freedom movement, and a plantation drive to mark the day, according to a statement. 'In August 1925, an incident took place at a railway station near Lucknow which shook the foundations of British rule. The revolutionaries fighting for freedom looted the British treasury near the Kakori Railway Station for the freedom of India,' he said. Revolutionaries Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqullah Khan, and Sachin Nath Bakshi were involved in the incident. 'When the trial of the Kakori case began, (former UP chief minister) Chandra Bhanu Gupta stood in the court with eminent lawyer Govind Ballabh Pant (first chief minister of UP, then United Provinces) on behalf of the revolutionaries,' the defence minister said.

Shahjahanpur cracks down against drone-crime rumours
Shahjahanpur: Authorities here have formed two teams to scuttle rumours about drones being used to commit crimes, an official said on Tuesday. District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh said such rumours were false. 'People should not panic due to such rumours, nor should they forward any unverified information received on social media,' he said. The DM said anyone wishing to fly a drone must first take permission from the district administration, disclose the area of operation, and state the purpose of the activity. They must also inform the local police station of the drone flying's date, time, and location. Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said several posts about drone sightings, followed by thefts, were found to be fake after an investigation.'We have instructed village security committees, beat constables, sub-inspectors, chowkidars and even women police personnel to reach out to villagers and raise awareness. No incident involving drones has come to our official notice so far,' Dwivedi told PTI. Drones weighing up to 250 grams are permitted for use in weddings and other functions without prior permission, but for heavier drones, written approval from the administration is mandatory. Several districts, including Ayodhya, Muzaffarnagar, Mathura, Meerut, and Bijnor, on Monday banned unauthorised drone Ayodhya, where drone restrictions were earlier limited to the temple town area surrounding the Ram Janmabhoomi complex, there is a blanket ban now. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had on Sunday instructed district magistrates and police to strictly monitor drone activity in light of 17 FIRs and 29 arrests linked to drone-related rumours. The chief minister warned that unauthorised drone usage could result in action under the Gangsters Act, and, if necessary, even the National Security Act (NSA). 'Any attempt to spread fear or misinformation using drones will not be tolerated,' Adityanath said.
