Man Utd transfer news: Hojlund, Sancho and Garnacho exits stall as Donnarumma plea made
Manchester United have two weeks remaining in the summer transfer window and are facing a race against time to sell Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho Manchester United began their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on Sunday – and while there were many new faces, the same old issues reared their head once more. Despite spending £200million on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, United failed to find the back of David Raya 's net. Meanwhile, their issues in between the posts continued, with Altay Bayindir at the centre of a debate on Monday after his error for Riccardo Calafiori's goal. Thankfully, there are still two weeks left of the summer transfer window for Ruben Amorim and his staff to address some of those issues. The problem for United is that they need to sell some of their unwanted players first before they can bring in more reinforcements. Unfortunately, there are many moving parts as they try to find new homes for the bomb squad players who have been exiled by Amorim. Here is the latest on those exits – and who could come in. Hojlund exit complicated Rasmus Hojlund was conspicuous through his absence on Sunday as we got a look at United's new-look forward line. Hojlund was left out of the squad entirely by Amorim and the club are now hoping to sell him before the window closes. They are willing to take a significant hit on the £72million they paid Atalanta a few years ago for his services. And yet things are not that simple, with AC Milan keen but not that keen. United want around £35m for the young Danish striker, but would also consider a loan at this late stage of the window. Milan, however, have Juventus ' Dusan Vlahovic as their top target, although those negotiations have reached a stalemate. Everything is up in the air, as Milan sporting director Igli Tare said: 'Hojlund is a good option for us. We are thinking about him, but in the transfer market, you never know what could happen.' Sancho and Garnacho delays Jadon Sancho is another player United are desperate to get rid of, but his £250,000-a-week wages are proving problematic. After moves to Juventus and Fenerbahce fell through, it is now the turn of Roma to get frustrated. The Italian club are threatening to pull out of a deal for the winger, despite agreeing a loan with an obligation to buy. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Sancho has informed Roma he is exploring other options. He has reportedly said no to Besiktas, where there would be a reunion with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and the situation looks set to run until the end of the window. Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho also remains a United player. Chelsea are keen on the winger, but need to first sell Christopher Nkunku to Bayern Munich. The German side have failed with a loan bid for Nkunku because the Blues want a permanent deal so they can sign either Garnacho or Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig. Utd urged to hijack Donnarumma deal Gianluigi Donnarumma has reportedly agreed terms with Manchester City and is now waiting for Ederson to move to Galatasaray. However, Bayindir's shocker on Sunday, and Andre Onana's general struggles at United, have raised the prospect of Donnarumma moving to a different part of Manchester. United enquired earlier in the summer about Donnarumma and Wayne Rooney believes they should try to hijack City's move. He said on his podcast: "Donnarumma, I think he's 26, he's one of the best goalkeepers in the world, it would be crazy if Man United don't go for him."

Distraught Jannik Sinner in shock retirement days before US Open - 'I'm so sorry' Jannik Sinner retired from the Cincinnati Open final against Carlos Alcaraz after just 24 minutes on court, with the US Open champion left to apologise to the crowd Jannik Sinner of Italy meets with Carlos Alcaraz of Spain and umpire Mohamed Lahyani to retire from the men's singles finals (Image: 2025 Getty Images) US Open champion Jannik Sinner has sparked concern ahead of next week's tournament after withdrawing from the Cincinnati Open final against Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner spent just 24 minutes on court, appearing uncomfortable in the sweltering Ohio conditions as he was broken three times by his Spanish rival to fall behind 5-0. With Alcaraz poised to serve for the set, the four-time Grand Slam winner summoned the trainer before deciding to withdraw, handing the world number two his first Cincinnati Open crown and raising questions about his participation at Flushing Meadows, which begins on August 24. Sinner struggled with unforced errors throughout and moved cautiously between points. After being broken for the third time to trail 5-0, he called for medical assistance. Following a brief consultation, Sinner offered his apologies and confirmed he was unable to continue. The Italian appeared distraught as he covered his face with his hands, whilst the umpire announced his retirement due to "illness". Sinner was visibly battling from early on. During the first changeover, whilst trailing 3-0, he placed an ice pack on his head. Article continues below The top seed attempted to carry on, but quickly recognised this was a mistake and withdrew at the subsequent changeover. Alcaraz had been seeking retribution following his defeat to Sinner in the Wimbledon final just weeks earlier, yet the world No.2 appeared genuinely worried about his opponent as they embraced following the announcement of Sinner's withdrawal. The Spanish star also approached Sinner's bench for a quick conversation before the trophy presentation, subsequently scrawling "sorry Jannik" on the camera lens. During the trophy ceremony, the world No. 1 revealed he had been feeling poorly but was determined to step onto court to provide spectators with a match. Nevertheless, he was unable to carry on. "Usually I'd start with the opponent but today I have to start with you guys. I'm super super sorry to disappoint you. From yesterday, I didn't feel great. I thought it would improve during the night but it came up worse," the top seed addressed the crowd. "I tried to make it at least a small match but I couldn't handle more so I'm very, very sorry. I know people on Mondays have to work and do something else, so I'm really, really sorry." This ensures Alcaraz claims the Cincinnati Open title for the first time. He had squandered a championship opportunity against Novak Djokovic in an enthralling final two years prior, falling 5-7 7-6(7) 7-6(4). Last year, Alcaraz endured a surprising first-round elimination at the hands of Gael Monfils. Article continues below In an unusual display of anger, he destroyed his racquet and was issued a warning. However, he has transformed his fortunes in Ohio this season, claiming the silverware.

The withdrawal has also sparked fears over his participation in the US Open. Sinner is due to play alongside Czech tennis star Kateřina Siniaková in the Mixed Doubles event against Alexander Zverev and Belinda Bencic in the round of 16 tomorrow. The main draw for the men's singles US Open will commence from Sunday. Sinner also congratulated Alcaraz on the victory, which was the 22-year-old's eighth Masters title. He added: "Congrats to Carlos for another title. For sure, not the way you wanted it but it's amazing what kind of season you are producing. "To you and your team, I wish you the best for the US Open and the rest of the season. "To my team, thank you for pushing me every day and understanding me and the situation today. "I'm sorry to disappoint but sometimes it's like this and we have to accept it. "It's been one of the hottest tournaments we have faced, so thank you for all of the support and organisation." Alcaraz admitted it was not the way he wanted to win the game before also issuing an apology. But in a classy gesture, he called Sinner a "true champion" and declared that he would "come back better, even stronger". THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY..
