SGPC plans to send Sikh pilgrims to Pakistan in November for Guru Nanak Jayanti despite diplomatic tensions
In a statement, SGPC Secretary Partap Singh said, 'As in previous years, SGPC will send a jatha for the occasion of Sri Guru Nanak Dev's Parkash Gurpurb to visit various historical Gurdwaras in Pakistan.' He added that devotees wishing to join the pilgrimage must submit their passports and a recommendation from the SGPC member in the area to the SGPC's yatra department by August 4.
The pilgrimage includes visits to Gurdwara Janam Asthan Sri Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev, and other sites of religious significance in Pakistan. The arrangements fall under a longstanding framework based on the 1972 Shimla Agreement, which permits Sikh pilgrims to visit Pakistani Gurdwaras four times a year.
Partap Singh said, 'Along with the passport, devotees must include a photocopy of an identity proof such as an Aadhaar card or Voter ID.' He appealed to the devotees to complete their documentation in a timely manner to facilitate visa processing.
Under the existing pilgrimage arrangement, up to 3,000 Indian Sikh pilgrims are permitted to travel to Pakistan for the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. The agreement allows 1,000 pilgrims for the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan and 500 for the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
SGPC had earlier decided not to send a jatha to Pakistan in June for the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, founder of the Sikh Empire. That decision followed heightened diplomatic strains, including Pakistan's suspension of the Shimla Agreement in late April after India withdrew from the Indus Waters Treaty.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir in which 26 people were killed on April 22. It escalated into military conflict between India and Pakistan until a ceasefire was declared on May 10.

SAD asks Punjabis to defeat Delhi-led conspiracy to weaken the Panth
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has appealed to Punjabis to defeat the conspiracies hatched in Delhi to weaken the SAD and condemned Giani Harpreet Singh for becoming the face of this conspiracy with an aim to divide the Panth and weaken its religious institutions. Presiding over the political conference held at Isru village to commemorate the martyrdom of Shaheed Karnail Singh Isru, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami asked Punjabis to start a public movement on social media to seek the release of Bandi Singhs following an observation by the Supreme Court that keeping anyone in jail after the completion of his jail term of 20 years was a violation of the person's human rights. He observed that the Bandi Singhs were incarcerated for periods up to 28 years and appealed to Punjabis to make individual pleas to seek their release on social media. Senior leader Maheshinder Singh Grewal appealed to the SAD cadre to beware of the conspiracy to weaken the SAD by using 'duplicates' to deceive the party rank and file. He said a section of leaders led by Giani Harpreet Singh were trying to claim that they were the real SAD. 'These persons have opened their own shop but want to hark back to the legacy of the SAD to deceive the people. These duplicates should be rejected immediately,' he added. Senior leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said the 'Vakhra Chulha' established by Giani Harpreet had exposed the latter's real intentions. 'The very fact that he has formed a new establishment which goes back to his own 'hukamnama' of December 2 forbidding the same.' He said after becoming a tool of the Delhi Darbar, Giani Harpreet was now threatening to take over the SGPC as well as the SAD head office and its symbol. 'I want to tell Giani Harpreet that the Panth has never succumbed to threats earlier and never will.' He also castigated Giani Harpreet for betraying the SGPC which had not only schooled him but also bestowed on him the highest honour of Sri Akal Takht Jathedar. Youth Akali Dal president Sarabjit Singh Jhinjher spoke on how Giani Harpreet had let greed and opportunism get the better of him and was not trying to divide the Panth by becoming an agent of central agencies. He also condemned Giani Harpreet for trying to incite violence by asserting that he would forcibly take over the SAD head office. Senior leaders, including Hira Singh Gabria, Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Darbara Singh Guru, Amarjit Singh Chawla, Gurpreet Singh Rajukhanna, Yadwinder Singh Yadu and Paramjit Singh Dhillon spoke on the occasion and highlighted the sacrifice made by Karnail Singh Isru. They also spoke on how Punjabis have been betrayed by their own country after Independence with the water of Punjab being diverted to Rajasthan even as the state was denied its own capital. They also spoke on how the new 'robber barons' of Delhi led by Arvind Kejriwal had tried to take over the fertile land of the state by passing an order to acquire 65,000 acres of land. The leaders said while this land grab had been averted by the strong resistance put up by the SAD which held four massive 'dharnas' besides announcing the start of a morcha, the party would continue to resist all the anti-people activities of AAP and would hold public protests against them.

Amitabh Bachchan praised External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the Independence Day special of Kaun Banega Crorepati. On the occasion of Independence Day, Kaun Banega Crorepati offered its audience a powerful gift with a special episode titled Independence Day Maha Utsav. The show brought together three fearless women officers from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force who had played crucial roles in Operation Sindoor, a mission that dealt a strong response to Pakistan. The patriotic episode wasn't just filled with quiz questions but also with moments of respect, inspiration, and pride. One such moment came when host and megastar Amitabh Bachchan praised India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, drawing parallels between his commanding diplomatic style and that of an Army officer. 'Tough Talk, Like a Soldier" During a round of questions that began directly from the sixth level, the contestants were shown a picture of former External Affairs Ministers Salman Khurshid and the late Sushma Swaraj. They were then asked to identify the next minister in sequence. The officers confidently answered: Dr. S. Jaishankar. Reacting with a smile, Amitabh Bachchan admitted that he often watches Jaishankar's interviews and is deeply impressed by his manner of speaking. 'He speaks so strongly and with such authority that it feels like he could easily be in the Army," Bachchan said. This candid remark instantly became the most talked-about moment of the episode, with viewers applauding the megastar for acknowledging Jaishankar's firm and fearless presence on the global stage. Fans on social media even hailed it as proof of India's diplomatic strength and Jaishankar's growing popularity. Heroes of Operation Sindoor Adding to the patriotic fervour were the three officers who graced the stage: Colonel Sophia Qureshi (Army), known for her exemplary service during United Nations missions. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh (Air Force), celebrated for her daring spirit in the skies. Commander Prerna Devasthali (Navy), who thrives on the challenges of the sea. These officers were instrumental in Operation Sindoor, where they played decisive roles against Pakistan. Their entry was welcomed with a standing ovation from the audience and from Amitabh Bachchan himself, reflecting the immense pride the nation feels for its women warriors. A Patriotic Celebration The special episode was a blend of knowledge, inspiration, and national pride. Along with the quiz, the show featured stories of sacrifice and courage from the three officers, interspersed with patriotic songs and tributes to the tricolour. A visibly moved Amitabh Bachchan remarked, 'It is an honour for me to share this stage with these brave daughters of India on this day."
