IND A vs ENG Lions: Shardul Thakur, Nitish Reddy go wicketless as match ends early due to poor light
Game stopped due yo bad light. (PIC - X) India A pace bowling all-rounders Shardul Thakur and Nitish Kumar Reddy continued to dish out underwhelming performances as the England Lions made 192 for three at the end of second day of the second unofficial Test here on Saturday. India A, overnight 319/7, were folded for 348 in their first innings, but fifties of Tom Haines (54, 88 balls) and Emilio Gay (71, 117 balls) helped the Lions to reduce the deficit to 156 runs when the stumps were drawn early because of bad light. The Indian think-tank will be a tad concerned about the inability of Thakur and Reddy to take wickets, as both are in contention for the lone pace-bowling all-rounder's slot in the India team for the five-match Test series against England. In the first four-day match at Canterbury, Thakur took two wickets but leaked 105 runs in 28 overs while Reddy's lone wicket came at the cost of 63 runs in 14.5 overs. Here too, they did not show much improvement despite plenty of swing on offer. Thakur bowled six wicketless overs, while Reddy, despite managing bit of swing occasionally, failed to take wickets in his six overs on the day. However, England Lions batters, particularly Haines and Gay, made merry of a struggling India A attack to bring up respective fifties. Haines added 94 runs for the second wicket with Gay in just 128 balls, and the ease of that alliance underlined the struggles of India A bowlers. However, spinner Tanush Kotian was quite impressive while drawing false shots from the batters quite often, and his persistence was rewarded with the scalp of Gay, who looked set for a hundred. However, Jordan Cox (31 not out), who helped Gay milk 69 runs for the third wicket, appeared to have mastered the conditions and bowlers for a long haul on the third day Sunday. Pacer Anshul Kamboj was impressive once again, looking sharp and picked up the wicket of opener Ben McKinney early in the innings. In the opening session, the Lions bowlers took the new ball in the first available opportunity and finished off the India A innings, taking three wickets for 29 runs. Brief Scores: India A 1st innings: 348 all out vs England Lions 1st innings: 192/3 in 46 overs: (Tom Haines 54, Emilio Gay 71; Anshul Kamboj 1/38, Tushar Deshpande 1/44, Tanush Kotian 1/21).

India A Batter Yashasvi Jaiswal Refuses To Walk Despite Being Given Out
Last Updated: Jaiswal lost his cool and refused to walk on a debatable on-field LBW decision during the seventh over of the first day's play of the ongoing second unofficial Test. Yashasvi Jaiswal was left angry over a questionable umpiring decision on Day 1 of the second unofficial Test against England Lions in Northampton on Friday, June 6. The India A opener couldn't believe his misfortune as the umpire raised his hands on a debatable LBW shout by England seamer Chris Woakes. While the sharp inswinger from Woakes seemed to be going down the leg side, the umpire gave Jaiswal out when he was beginning to set his eyes in. Jaiswal, who had reached 17 off 25 deliveries with two boundaries, was rapped on the front pad by Woakes' incoming ball on an attempted flick. The movement was supposed to take the ball past the stumps, but the on-field umpire gave the left-hander out, leaving him bemused. Jaiswal showed his dissent by standing his ground and refusing to make the walk back. The youngster even signalled to the umpire that the ball was shaping down the leg side. Jaiswal lbw 17 to Woakes … not sure he necessarily agreed with the decision — Ali Martin (@Cricket_Ali) June 6, 2025 Jaiswal only started going back to the shed after a good 10 seconds trying to tell the umpire the ball would've missed the three stumps. With no Decision Review System available for the series against England Lions, the 23-year-old had no choice but to relent and start a painstaking walk to the Indian dressing room. Jaiswal was left shattered by the on-field call after hoping to build on his gains from the first unofficial Test in Canterbury. One of the rising stars in the young Indian batting juggernaut picked for the challenging tour of England, Jaiswal had struck a fluent half-century in the second innings of the first unofficial Test. He made 64 off just 60 deliveries in the closing hours of the drawn encounter after missing out in the first half following a watchful 24 off 55 balls. Jaiswal will now join the senior Indian squad for an inter-squad clash against India A in his final chance to firm up preparations for the five-match Test series against England, starting June 20. He was one of the positives from India's strenuous tour of Australia, amassing 391 runs at an average of 43.44, including a century in Perth, in India's 3-1 series defeat. Indias Likely Playing XI For 1st Test Against England: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul As Openers, This Batter To Replace Virat Kohli At No. 4
photoDetails english 2912636 The Indian cricket team will start a new era in Tests with a five-match series against England. With Shubman Gill as the new Test captain and Rishabh Pant as vice-captain, India are all set to enter the transition phase after the retirements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin. The first Test between India and England is set to be played from June 20 at Headingley, Leeds and the Shubman Gill-led side is expected to field a balanced playing XI, leveraging English conditions. Here's India's likely Playing XI for the 1st Test against England: Updated:Jun 07, 2025, 11:06 PM IST 1. Yashasvi Jaiswal 1 / 11 Young left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been very consistent in the recent past, is all set to open the innings for India in the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. 2. KL Rahul 2 / 11 KL Rahul, who brings that much-needed experience, is likely to open the innings for India alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. Rahul did well for India as opener during the last tour of England. 3. Karun Nair 3 / 11 India have two good options in Sai Sudharsan or Karun Nair, who could bat at No. 3 in the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. Both Sudharsan and Nair are technically sound and going through good form as well. The 33-year-old Nair recently hit a double hundred while playing for India A against England Lions in a four-day practice game in Canterbury. His impressive performance in the practice game might give him a preference over Sudharsan in the Indian playing XI for the first Test. 4. Shubman Gill (Captain) 4 / 11 Shubman Gill will lead India in the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. The 25-year-old Gill has mostly batted at the top of the order or at number three in his Test career so far but he could take the big responsibility of replacing Virat Kohli at No. 4 spot in the Indian cricket team. Gill might bat at No. 4 spot for India in the first Test against England. Him moving to No. 4 spot could be a game changer moment for Gill and might elevate his Test career. 5. Rishabh Pant (VC & WK) 5 / 11 Explosive middle-order batter and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is all set to bat at No. 5 for India in the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. Pant has been one of the best batters for India in Test cricket in the last few years and the team would be expecting some counterattacking knocks from him during the tour. 6. Ravindra Jadeja 6 / 11 Ravindra Jadeja will give that perfect balance to the Indian team with his all-round skills during the upcoming England tour. He is likely to bat at No. 6 for India in the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. 7. Nitish Kumar Reddy 7 / 11 Nitish Kumar Reddy, the young all-rounder will offer batting depth and pace bowling options to the Indian team during the upcoming England tour. Nitish is likely to bat at No. 7 for India in the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds and bowl some crucial overs as well. 8. Shardul Thakur 8 / 11 All-rounder Shardul Thakur has done well for England in Test cricket in the past. Once again, he is going to play a crucial role for India and his performance with both bat and ball can determine the fate of India in the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. 9. Jasprit Bumrah 9 / 11 Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will lead the Indian bowling lineup in the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. A fully-fit Bumrah will be a lethal weapon for India against England. 10. Mohammed Siraj 10 / 11 India would expect a lot from Mohammed Siraj in their first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. Siraj, who has enough experience now, is expected to lead the attack alongside Bumrah in English conditions. 11. Prasidh Krishna 11 / 11 India have plenty of options in Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh and Akashdeep, when it comes to picking their third pacer for the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. Prasidh Krishna's brilliant performance in the Sydney Test against Australia earlier this might help him in getting that preference over Arshdeep Singh and Akashdeep.
