2nd Unofficial Test, Session 2: KL Rahul's 93* powers India A to 213/3 against England Lions

Northampton [UK], June 6 (ANI): Right-hand batter KL Rahul's unbeaten 93* took the visitors India A total to 213/3 at the stroke of tea on the first day of the second unofficial Test match against Rngland Lions at the County Ground here on Friday.
At the end of the second session, India A are 213/3 with KL Rahul (93*) and Dhruv Jurel (37*) unbeaten on the crease.
India A began the second session of the day from 75/2 with KL Rahul (26*) and Karun Nair (16*) unbeaten on the crease.
India A brought up their 100-run mark on the fourth ball of the 27th over as Nair took a single on the bowling of right-arm seamer Chris Woakes.
At the score of 126, the visitors lost their third wicket as Woakes dismissed Nair in the 34th over. Before going back, the right-hand batter scored 40 runs, which was laced by four boundaries.
After Nair's departure, the team's wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel came to bat. Rahul completed his half-century in the 38th over as he took a double on the bowling of George Hill.
The Abhimanyu Easwaran-led side completed their 150 in the 40th over as Rahul slammed a four in George Hill's over.
The India A side touched the 200-run mark in the 49th over as Jurel smashed a four.
Until the end of the second session, Rahul and Jurel built an unbeaten partnership of 87 runs.
Earlier in the day, England Lions skipper James Rew won the test and opted to field at the County Ground.
In the first session, India A scored 75 runs with the loss of two wickets. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran could not make their mark as they were dismissed cheaply.

India A, overnight 319/7, were folded for 348 in their first innings, but fifties of Tom Haines (54, 88 balls) and Emilio Gay (71, 117 balls) helped the Lions to reduce the deficit to 156 runs when the stumps were drawn early because of bad light. The Indian think-tank will be a tad concerned about the inability of Thakur and Reddy to take wickets, as both are in contention for the lone pace-bowling all-rounder's slot in the India team for the five-match Test series against England. In the first four-day match at Canterbury, Thakur took two wickets but leaked 105 runs in 28 overs while Reddy's lone wicket came at the cost of 63 runs in 14.5 overs. Here too, they did not show much improvement despite plenty of swing on offer. Thakur bowled six wicketless overs, while Reddy, despite managing bit of swing occasionally, failed to take wickets in his six overs on the day. However, England Lions batters, particularly Haines and Gay, made merry of a struggling India A attack to bring up respective fifties. Haines added 94 runs for the second wicket with Gay in just 128 balls, and the ease of that alliance underlined the struggles of India A bowlers. However, spinner Tanush Kotian was quite impressive while drawing false shots from the batters quite often, and his persistence was rewarded with the scalp of Gay, who looked set for a hundred. However, Jordan Cox (31 not out), who helped Gay milk 69 runs for the third wicket, appeared to have mastered the conditions and bowlers for a long haul on the third day Sunday. Pacer Anshul Kamboj was impressive once again, looking sharp and picked up the wicket of opener Ben McKinney early in the innings. In the opening session, the Lions bowlers took the new ball in the first available opportunity and finished off the India A innings, taking three wickets for 29 runs. The India A opener couldn't believe his misfortune as the umpire raised his hands on a debatable LBW shout by England seamer Chris Woakes. While the sharp inswinger from Woakes seemed to be going down the leg side, the umpire gave Jaiswal out when he was beginning to set his eyes in. Jaiswal, who had reached 17 off 25 deliveries with two boundaries, was rapped on the front pad by Woakes' incoming ball on an attempted flick. The movement was supposed to take the ball past the stumps, but the on-field umpire gave the left-hander out, leaving him bemused.
