Moment Edinburgh Fringe performer 'attacked by youths' on Royal Mile
Eddie Jen was accosted by a gang of youths as he gave out flyers for his show. A performer was "harassed by a group of youths" as he handed out flyers for his show at the Edinburgh Fringe. Eddie Jen, who uses he/she pronouns, is performing his 'Seeking a PenPal For the End of the World' show at the festival this year. The entertainer was handing out flyers dressed in drag but was left devastated with the manner one of the group treated her, reports Edinburgh Live. The moment, which was captured on video, shows two young, male youths approach Eddie outside a corner shop. Sharing the clip online, he claims the duo "beat him on the head", ripped off his bow and poured their drinks on him. Getting over 200,000 views, the video clip has since gone viral and many people have offered their support to the performer. The footage was captioned: "I was attacked in drag at Edinburgh Fringe 2025. It's my first solo show. "I was so excited to flyer and find an audience and then a group of young men began harassing me. They beat me on the head, ripped off my bow and poured their drinks on me." Afterwards another male comes up to Eddie and offers some napkins before asking what happened. The male said: "They're just harassing folk for clout. Don't worry, it's not how we are here. You are welcome." Almost 1000 comments have come in after the short clip was posted online. One person said: "Why is it always teenagers? Where are their parents? "I'm terrified of teenage boys in Edinburgh, they're just looking for trouble." A second said: "That's so bad a member of the public has to explain this is not how Scotland is and excusing their bad behaviour." "I'm so sorry this happened to you. I live in Edinburgh and unfortunately this type of stuff happens a lot. It's horrible but not all teenagers are like that", a third commented. You can find out more about Eddie's show here.

Plan a day out with your kids with the perfect Edinburgh Fringe Festival guide
Visiting the Edinburgh Fringe with kids can be tricky, but with some planning, it can be a fun experience for the whole family Navigating the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with children in tow can seem like a challenge, but with a little planning, it can be a memorable experience for the whole family. As thousands prepare to descend on the capital for the world's largest arts festival, many parents are already weighing up how to juggle shows, food and sightseeing without anyone getting overwhelmed. Here's a guide to help families make the most of their Fringe visit, Edinburgh Live reports. Where to Eat Finding somewhere to refuel can be one of the trickiest parts of the Fringe, especially with hungry kids and crowded venues. While the city centre eateries tend to get packed, there are quieter options if you're willing to take a short stroll. The food trucks at George Square offer a variety of meals on the go, and nearby Meadows Park is the perfect spot for a peaceful break. Holyrood Park also offers open space for a picnic, while those venturing slightly further afield can find calm at Inverleith Park. Stockbridge, a short walk from there, is home to relaxed dining options like Civerinos and Café Andaluz. For indoor dining, Loudons near the Canongate serves family-friendly brunch and lunch in a bright, spacious setting. The Scran and Scallie in Stockbridge has a well-reviewed lunch menu and even a children's playroom, ideal for giving parents a much-needed breather. In Haymarket, Pomo Pizzeria delivers classic Italian dishes with plenty of kid-friendly pizza options. Check out the map below for the quiet spots in the city. Choosing Shows With thousands of performances on offer, choosing what to see can feel overwhelming. But part of the magic of the Fringe is taking a chance, not every show will be a hit, and that's all part of the experience. Children should be given the chance to pick a few shows themselves. Most performances run under an hour, which keeps things manageable even if a particular act doesn't capture everyone's attention. And families shouldn't feel confined to purely children's shows, many family-friendly productions are suitable for all ages. The Circus Hub on the Meadows is always a safe bet for families, offering a mix of acrobatics, comedy and spectacle. Other recommended picks this year include Monsterrrr! with Trygve Wakenshaw at Assembly George Square, You're an Instrument! at Pleasance Courtyard, and The Unlikely Friendship of Feather Boy and Tentacle Girl at Assembly Roxy. It's best to plan for two to three shows in one day, leaving plenty of time for breaks and travel between venues. Many shows offer family ticket options, which can be found on the Fringe's official website. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Getting Around Travelling between venues can take longer than expected, especially with little legs to consider. Parents are advised to avoid booking shows back-to-back and to check venue names carefully, as several locations have similar titles but are miles apart. Fringe venues can be spread across the city, so factor in time for toilets, snacks, and the occasional detour. A venue map is available on the official Fringe website to help plan efficient routes. Sightseeing with the Family For first-time visitors, sightseeing can add another layer to the experience, but be warned, popular attractions fill up fast and the crowds can be dense. If families are planning to visit places like Camera Obscura or Dynamic Earth, it's best to book in advance and allow extra time to get there. These spots can provide a fun break between shows and give children a taste of Edinburgh beyond the stage.

Woman screams 'I'm going to die' as she dangles above 100ft drop on ferris wheel
Things took a traumatic turn at a carnival in Mandirituba, southern Brazil, when a confused woman 'thought the ride had finished' and attempted to leave the carriage in mid-air This is the nailbiting moment a terrified woman clings on for dear life screaming for help as she dangles from a ferris wheel facing a 100ft drop. Chilling video footage from a carnival in Mandirituba, southern Brazil, shows her in grave dangers after her legs and most of her body slipped through the safety gate. Gripping onto the carriage's bars, she knows one wrong move could see her plunge to her death. Phone footage of the drama recorded by horrified onlookers shows the big wheel as it inches around an entire rotation before carrying the woman to the ground. As her arms begin to tire having held firm, she can be heard calling: "Help, I'm going to die! I'm going to fall!" It later emerged that the woman, who has not been named, had opened the cabin's safety barrier and tried to get out believing the ride had ended. But just as she stepped forward, the ride lurched forward again leaving her clinging to the railings to stop herself falling, NewsX report. In a statement, Mandirituba City Hall said "The technical team immediately identified the situation and operated the equipment so that the cabin slowly lowered to the ground, allowing the passenger to be safely removed." Despite the terrifying experience, the woman declined medical attention and walked away unhurt but visibly shaken. It is not the only shocking fairground incident this summer. The waltzers ride at the Galactic Carnival Festival in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh, left children 'shaken up' after it suddenly appeared to malfunction as they went 'flying' with thrill-seekers inside. Dad Kevin McNulty said after horror in late May that he was in the car on the ride behind his three children aged 13, 12 and 7 when it it suddenly "came completely off" and went "flying" into the seat he was in. It was like "something you see in the movies', Kevin told Edinburgh Live. He said his children were shaken but 'not too bad' considering what happened. Kevin said: "Last night we were at these shows at Westerhailes Plaza, my three kids were on the Waltzers with myself and Brooke in car behind. Then the unthinkable happened. Going FULL PELT (not slowing down) their car came completely off and then went flying into our car. 'It then smashed about the place crashing into the side off the track, thankfully there was a heavy large speaker that they collided with or they would have been through the whole thing and then the ending would have been a completely different story, a thought I can't stop thinking about. "The shows continued to go (not the Waltzers) but place should have been shut down for a full inspection. It was like something you see in the movies and my kids are very very lucky that they managed to get out of this still walking."
