Marc Guehi snubs Oliver Glasner to throw Crystal Palace future into more doubt

Marc Guehi snubs Oliver Glasner to throw Crystal Palace future into more doubt

Telegrapha day ago
Liverpool target Marc Guéhi appeared to ignore a greeting from his Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner after the goalless draw at Chelsea.
Guéhi seemingly snubbed Glasner's call for a handshake on the pitch as he instead walked head down towards the Stamford Bridge tunnel.
Roy Keane said later that Glasner only had himself to blame, however. During Sky Sports' coverage, Keane attacked the trend of managers wanting to shake hands with their players on the pitch, describing it as 'the new garlic bread'.

The incident went unexplained by Palace on Sunday night although Jean-Philippe Mateta appeared to discuss the incident with Glasner as they walked off.
Telegraph Sport reported last week how Liverpool are in talks with Palace over a deal for Guehi. The club have indicated they want to sell this summer rather than lose their captain for free when his contract expires but the clubs have so far been apart on their valuation. An agreement could be reached between the clubs for around £35m for a player who will hope to be part of Thomas Tuchel's England squad at the 2026 World Cup.
Keane said Guehi was within his rights to not want to talk to Glasner in full gaze of the fans and TV cameras. He said the incident underlines why managers should go back to a quick handshake with their counterpart before leaving the field. He added:
'Where does this all happen over the last year or two, where managers come on the pitch and shake hands with everybody, the opposition players? When you're playing... you've just had a tough match. He's [Guehi] physically exhausted. He's walking up – the manager's probably coming for a little chit-chat, knowing that there's, there's talk about him leaving.
'As a player, you don't want to get involved in that as well. I've had managers come up after a game. You go, 'let's get down the tunnel, we'll do it inside'. This idea of managers all wanting to do something on the pitch – that's come in the last few years... It's like the new garlic bread. Just get down the tunnel. It's just a league match.'
However, both Guehi and team-mate Eberechi Eze remain 'aligned with Palace' amid rising transfer speculation, Glasner insisted on Sunday night. 'Ebs and Marc, there has been a lot of noise about these two players in the last week. Everyone could see the performances against Liverpool and today they were 100 per cent aligned with this team and Crystal Palace,' Glasner told BBC Match of the Day.
'As long as they are 100 per cent committed, they will play as they are so good. I watched them all week in training, I spoke to them almost daily, maybe more than my kids and wife, but it's been worth it to talk to them. They didn't just show they are great footballers, but they are great people and that's what I expected.'
