"Ravi Shankar Prasad praised Rafale as symbol of close collaborations": Shashi Tharoor on interaction with French delegation
New Delhi [India], May 20 (ANI): Following an interaction with a French delegation, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs and Congress MP, Shashi Tharoor, highlighted the Rafale fighter jets as a symbol of the deepening Indo-French strategic partnership.
Tharoor further stated that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ravi Shankar Prasad praised Rafale as a symbol of close collaborations between India and France.
While speaking to ANI, Tharoor said, 'We had a very strong and positive discussion on the strength of the Indo-French bilateral relationship, political, economic, strategic, military, all of that, and we also talked positively about the horizon for the future. In addition to that, the French visitors expressed strong support for India's position in the wake of the recent terrorist attack and our actions that followed. That support was very much appreciated by our committee.'
He added, 'In addition, I was able to introduce them to my colleague, Ravi Shankar Prasad, who will be leading a delegation from India. It was a good meeting for all these purposes. Ravi Shankar Prasad praised Rafale as a symbol of our close collaborations...There was no detailed discussion of the military actions.'
Meanwhile, Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday vowed to convey India's concerns effectively in front of the international community after being named as a member of the delegation visiting key partner countries to project India's continued fight against cross-border terrorism and Operation Sindoor.
In the context of Operation Sindoor and India's continued fight against cross-border terrorism, seven all-party Delegations are set to visit key partner countries, including members of the UN Security Council.
The all-party delegations will project India's national consensus and resolute approach to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They will convey to the world the country's strong message of zero tolerance for terrorism.
Each delegation will include members of Parliament from different parties, prominent political personalities, and distinguished diplomats.
The MPs, who will lead the delegations, are Shashi Tharoor (INC), Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda (BJP), Sanjay Kumar Jha (JD-U), Kanimozhi Karunanidhi (DMK), Supriya Sule (NCP) and Srikant Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena).
India had carried out Operation Sindoor early on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack and launched precise strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoJK. India responded effectively to Pakistan's subsequent aggression and pounded its airports.
The countries have reached an understanding for stopping military action following a call made by Pakistan's DGMO to his Indian counterpart. (ANI)

U.P. plans hi-tech shield against CBRN threats
Drawing lessons from Parliament security protocols, the Uttar Pradesh government is working closely with agencies like the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) to design a multi-layered safety mechanism for safeguarding key installations, the state assembly, and VIPs from chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats, according to senior officials aware of the development. The state government initiated the process when senior officials visited the recently-held three-day 'AeroDef India Manufacturing Expo', a major aerospace and defence manufacturing exhibition, in New Delhi from May 1 to 3. The state authorities also had an interaction with the U.S. department of homeland security, and recent security technology exchanges during a visit by U.S. senator JD Vance to the Taj Mahal in Agra. These robots, based on French technology, will offer day and night surveillance capabilities and can be deployed in high-risk zones such as assembly premises, airports, or during major public events. The state felt a sense of urgency in adopting the advanced technologies after the recent conflict with Pakistan leading to international tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack. Senior government officials requesting anonymity said that the proposed CBRN setup is part of a broader effort to strengthen internal security in light of recent geopolitical tensions, particularly with Pakistan. The initiative also builds on recent steps taken by the state government to secure the U.P. assembly complex. Notably, CBRN threats pose a significant risk due to their potential for widespread harm, long-term health effects, and psychological impact. These threats are characterised by their low probability but high impact, often manifesting in accidental releases or intentional attacks. The CBRN incidents can be airborne, waterborne, foodborne, or through contaminated soil, making detection and response challenging. Under the envisioned CBRN safety net, multiple technologies will be integrated to detect and neutralise threats like viruses, spores, and toxins. A single setup may cost up to ₹10 crore, according to initial estimates. 'Consultations are ongoing with the DRDO, ECIL, U.P. Police, paramilitary forces, and both state and national disaster management authorities. An evaluation by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) is also being considered as part of the plan,' they said, adding the system will be used for VIP and VVIP security, and during high-profile visits and events at strategic sites across the state. 'It will be based on technology from foreign countries, either the U.S. or France,' officials said. Earlier this year, the traditional vehicle stickers for MLAs, MLCs and other visitors were replaced with RFID tags after reports of fraudulent access using tampered passes emerged. During a state assembly session on March 5, speaker Satish Mahana highlighted the security concerns, saying: 'It has come to our notice that fake vehicle passes are being created by tampering with those issued by the assembly secretariat. This is a serious security concern, and the matter has been referred to the state's purchasing department for investigation.' The advanced robotic surveillance devices can be deployed in high-risk zones such as assembly premises, airports, or during major public events. Each robot, costing around ₹80 lakh, is designed to access hard-to-reach and hazardous zones without endangering human lives. With a range of up to 90 metres, these wheeled devices can scan vehicles -- even go underneath them -- for potential explosives, and are equipped to traverse stairs, rough terrains, and confined spaces. 'Robot-based threat assessments can significantly reduce the need for human intervention in danger zones,' a senior official said. 'Conventional wars and threats are a thing of the past now. We have to move past those trends and be future-ready,' the official added. If implemented, Uttar Pradesh will become the first state police force in India to adopt a Parliament-style integrated security model against CBRN and explosive threats, the senior official noted. NDA will dethrone TN, West Bengal govts in 2026 : Amit Shah
Chennai, June 8 (UNI) Asserting that the BJP-led NDA would dethrone the present dispensation in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the NDA would form governments in these two states next year. Addressing the state, district and mandal level party office bearers at Madurai after offering worship at the Meenakshi Amman temple as part of his 2-day visit, he said the ruling DMK will be defeated in 2026 polls and an NDA government headed by the BJP-AIADMK would be formed. He also said besides Tamil Nadu, in West Bengal also the NDA will form governments in 2026. Criticising the DMK as a 100 per cent failed government, Mr Shah cited the alleged Rs, 1000 crore irregularities unearthed by ED in the state-owned TASMAC. "Using these funds, at least two classrooms could have been built in each school across the state", he said. He said he was living in Delhi but his ears are always on Tamil Nadu. Referring to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin's remarks that 'Not even Amit Shah, no Shah can rule TN", the Union Minister said Mr Stalin is right. "It's not me, but the people of Tamil Nadu will defeat you (DMK)," he said.
