He also played a pivotal role in India's historic series victory in Australia during the 2020–21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, further solidifying his reputation as a clutch performer. When asked by former teammate Cheteshwar Pujara about his nickname in an interaction at Sony Sports , he stated:
"It feels good. Firstly, the fans have given me this name. So, whenever the fans give me any title, it's a good thing. That means fans love you, they like to see you play. Rohit keeps teasing me 'Lord'. It's a good thing. It does create a light-hearted moment and atmosphere. Even guys in the dressing room call me by that. So, it creates a good environment."

Shardul's Comeback
Shardul, who missed the second and third Test matches, made his comeback in the fourth Test after Nitish Kumar Reddy sustained an injury following the third Test match against England at Lord's Stadium in London.
On Day 4 of the 4th Test between India and England in Manchester, England continued to dominate, but India showed significant resilience. England, resuming their innings, extended their massive lead. While Joe Root had already scored his masterful century on Day 3, England's captain Ben Stokes went on to score a brilliant century (141 runs) on Day 4, guiding England to a formidable first-innings total of 669, giving them a lead of 311 runs.
India's second innings started disastrously, losing two wickets for no runs in the very first over to Chris Woakes. However, captain Shubman Gill (78* runs) and KL Rahul (87* runs) then mounted a remarkable fightback, stitching together a resilient 174-run partnership for the third wicket by stumps.
Regarding the bowlers:
Shardul Thakur continued to be used sparingly by India. While he had bowled 11 overs for 55 runs and was wicketless by the end of Day 3, his usage on Day 4 remained limited, raising questions about India's bowling strategy and his role. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj both had injury scares on Day 3, with Bumrah twisting his ankle and Siraj experiencing discomfort. While both returned to the field on Day 4, their pace and effectiveness were noted to have dropped, indicating they were still managing their niggles. Ben Stokes also did not bowl due to a hamstring pull. By the end of Day 4, India was 174/2, still trailing England by 137 runs, setting up a tense final day with the weather forecast also playing a potential role.

Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy: Who Will Take Trophy Home If India Win Final Test And Series Ends In Draw? Check Here
IND vs ENG: India pulled off a dramatic escape on Sunday, July 27, as they denied England a series win in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester. The hosts were firm favourites to seal the inaugural Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, needing just eight Indian wickets with nearly two days to play. However, India's resilience with the bat ensured the match ended in a draw, keeping the series alive at 2-1 in England's favour. Rahul and Gill Lay the Foundation Facing a daunting task, India's survival effort began with KL Rahul and Shubman Gill, who displayed remarkable patience and discipline to bat through the entirety of Day 4. Their stand wore down the English bowling attack and prevented early breakthroughs that could have led to a collapse. Jadeja and Sundar's Match-Saving Partnership On the final day, India were still under pressure, but Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar rose to the occasion. The pair put together an unbroken 203-run partnership that not only frustrated England but also shifted the momentum entirely. Sundar brought up his maiden Test century, while Jadeja remained unbeaten on 107, showcasing grit and maturity. Eventually, with the result inevitable, both teams agreed to shake hands and end the match as a draw—much to India's relief and England's disappointment. Series Heads to The Oval with Everything to Play For With the fourth Test drawn, the five-match series now stands at 2-1 in England's favour. The final Test will be played at The Oval starting Thursday, and India will need to win to level the series. A 2-2 result would be a moral victory for the visitors after being 2-1 down, but the big question remains who would retain the trophy? Who Will Hold the Trophy If Series Is Drawn? According to tradition in most bilateral Test series, if a series ends in a draw, the team that won the previous edition retains the trophy. In this case, while the 2021 Pataudi Trophy ended in a draw, England had beaten India 4-1 in 2018, technically making them the holders. However, the current series marks the inaugural edition of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, replacing the Pataudi Trophy. This raises uncertainty over whether the 2018 result still applies or if a drawn series would mean the trophy is shared. As of now, neither the BCCI nor the ECB has issued an official clarification on the retention rules for the new trophy in the event of a drawn series.

Shubman Gill Equals Gary Sobers Test Record, Needs 1 Run To...
Last Updated: Shubman Gill has proven his credentials in Test cricket with a memorable show on India's ongoing tour of England. India captain Shubman Gill is in the midst of a breakthrough series of his Test career that has seen him score truckload of runs. In his debut series as India Test captain, Gill has stepped up his game with four centuries from eight innings including a magnificent double ton against England. With a Test still remaining in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Gill can create several records. The 25-year-old on Sunday, scored a memorable hundred which was pivotal to India securing a hard-fought draw in Manchester after playing catchup for the majority of the match. He scored 103 off 238 and stitched a 188-run partnership with KL Rahul (90) to help the visitors recover from 0/2 after England had taken a huge 311-run lead. Gill thus drew level with the legendary Gary Sobers' 59-year-old record for the most runs scored by a visiting captain during a series in SENA countries. Sobers scored 722 from eight innings of five Tests during West Indies' 1966 tour of England. The legendary allrounder scored three centuries and two fifties on the tour. Gill has so far made 722 runs from eight innings of four Tests and needs 1 run to go past Sobers record. Most runs by a visiting captain in a series in SENA countries Overall, the record for the most runs in a single series by a captain is held by legendary Don Bradman of Australia who racked up 810 runs in 9 innings of a five-Test series against England at home in 1936-37. Gill is joint-third in this list. Gill's Sensational Show Prior to the start of England tour, there questions were raised over Gill's middling record in Test cricket. All five of his Test centuries before leaving for England came at home. The youngster has addressed the criticism with aplomb peeling four centuries with his overall Test average now in the early fourties. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ‘Shubman Gill not scared to poke the bear': Vaughan hypes India skipper for standing up for his teammates
Michael Vaughan has been impressed with Shubman Gill's bold leadership in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, noting how the young Indian skipper hasn't hesitated to challenge the opposition or stir things up when needed. The 25-year-old took the captaincy charge from Rohit Sharma ahead of the England tour and has entered the transition phase under him. The young Indian team has put up a solid fightback so far. Shubman and Co. are currently trailing the series 1-2, but they have managed to push every match to the final day. Shubman Gill has put up a solid show as captain in the England series so far.(@BCCI X) Shubman has silenced his critics in emphatic fashion, leading from the front with the bat and amassing 700 runs in the series so far. His prolific form has put to rest doubts over his red-ball credentials that surfaced before the England tour, reinforcing his stature as a reliable Test batter. Meanwhile, Vaughan lauded Gill for standing up for his teammates and being ready to do whatever it takes to exercise his authority as skipper. "I like to see a young captain with a little bit of authority. I've actually loved the way that he has spoken. He's not been scared to kind of poke the bear. You've got to stand up for your teammates, for what you believe as a team. So far, in Shubman Gill, I am seeing a captain that is willing to do that," Vaughan said on Cricbuzz. In the Manchester Test, India mounted a determined fightback after trailing by 311 runs in their second innings. Displaying remarkable grit, they ended day four at 425 for four after 143 overs, with standout performances from Shubman Gill (103), KL Rahul (90), Ravindra Jadeja (107*), and Washington Sundar (101*) anchoring the revival. 'We have got a bona fide superstar as a Test captain': Dinesh Karthik Veteran India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik highlights Gill's calm yet assertive presence and how the young skipper backed his instincts and motivated teammates to push for centuries, calling him a 'bona fide superstar' in the making. "He came in as a young captain and people were not sure how it is going to pan out, but I can tell you, we have got a bona fide superstar as a Test captain because of the guts that he is showing as a batter, because of how much he stands his ground about what he believes in. The last 10-15 minutes, the way it unfolded, he was just standing there in the balcony, literally poker face saying, 'Get out there, get your hundreds'," Dinesh Karthik said.
