The 7th edition of Shefs at The Leela celebrates women in culinary leadership
The Leela Palace Chennai presents the seventh edition of Shefs at The Leela in collaboration with 'Dean With Us' — the mother-daughter duo of Rupali and Akanksha Dean. The event honours the transformative role of Indian women chefs who are shaping the future of gastronomy. After past editions hosted across Bengaluru, Gurugram, Chennai, and Jaipur, the seventh edition in Chennai will bring together four women chefs — Sambhavi Joshi, Taiyaba Ali, Sehaj Ghuman and Bunuma Patgiri, who will bring their years of expertise into curating a menu that speaks both of their work and India's diverse culinary heritage. 'This platform was created to amplify the voices of women chefs, long underrepresented in professional kitchens and provide them a space to flourish, inspire, and connect,' says Akanksha, co-founder of Dean With Us. The menu is a fusion of global culinary techniques, with richly rooted sensibilities of Indian cuisine. 'We selected Indian women chefs thriving not only in India but internationally as well, each carving their own niche with passion and flair. Each dish narrates a journey of personal and cultural identity, harmonising traditional elements with contemporary creativity,' says Rupali, founder of Dean With Us. Sambhavi Joshi will embody her commitment to rustic Italian cuisine, sustainability, and zero-waste practises, with signature dishes from her restaurant, Casa Pasta Bar, Delhi. 'For me, I think it was it was about trying to put the best of Casa on the menu because that's where I have learnt and kind of built on in the past few years. I am making a pumpkin soup. So, the pumpkin soup has a beautiful story from when I was training with Chef Alex Sanchez. One day he made me make the pumpkin soup almost 10 times — because it was just not right. So, I think for me it holds a place in my heart.' Here, the pumpkin is paired with smoked duck and a delicate parmesan foam. Taiyaba Ali is a chef and writer from Lucknow who celebrates the often-overlooked contributions of women to Awadhi cuisine. Her menus spotlight the region's multicultural influences and seasonal ingredients. 'I am doing a stuffed and seared butternut squash in a nut gravy served with dill pulao. Pulaos are big in Lucknow. We don't always eat biryani. I am using dill leaves to make this home-style pulao, with little bit of spices. There's the technique of dum, which is called dhungar, and there is also slow cooking of the butter nut squash which is being roasted.' Bunuma Patgiri is the Chef de Cuisine at The Leela Palace Chennai. Her expertise lies with Thai, Singaporean, Malay, and Northeast Indian cuisines. She is making larb gai, a dish inspired by Thai Krathong. I belong to the Boro tribe in Northeast India, which has festivals with rituals similar to Thai traditions, including offerings of flowers and food in a boat-shaped structur in water, mirroring Thai krathong.' Sehaj Ghuman is head chef, Academy Of Pastry and Culinary Arts, Gurugram. For the dessert menu, she is doing her version of choco bar. 'It's going to be super chocolatey with caramelised peanut parfait, a soft vanilla caramel, and chocolate chunk dacquoise. It's just a childhood memory basically,' she says. Shefs at The Leela will take place at The Leela Palace Chennai on July 20, priced at ₹5,999 plus taxes. To reserve call +91 7824813894.

Young swimming coach goes viral on social media for his looks; social media reacts, ‘Does he teach moms too?'
A young swimming coach from eastern China has become viral online because of his good looks and fit body. Many mothers are now eager to enrol their kids in his classes. Since July, videos of him teaching children at Hangzhou Chenjinglun Sports School have spread across the internet. Most of these were recorded by the mothers themselves. In the clips, he wears bright swim trunks while sometimes going shirtless. His surname is Chen. The young coach just finished high school and was admitted to the Nanjing Sport Institute. He now works as a part-time junior coach for over twenty small children aged four to five. Hangzhou Chenjinglun Sports School is known for producing world-class swimmers like Sun Yang and Chen Yufei. This summer, nearly 800 children joined swimming lessons there. The teenage coach has caught everyone's eye online. Many people shared funny and admiring comments about him. His sudden fame has added more attention to the school's summer programme, according to the South China Morning Post. Many people on social media joked they now want to take swimming lessons just to see him. Some users called him cute while others asked if grown-ups could join his class too. 'Any young man with a little bit of muscle will drive the aunts crazy,' wrote one social media user on Instagram. Another quipped, 'I need a child to borrow.' 'Does he teach moms too? Asking for a friend,' asked another. 'How to enroll there even tho I haven't become a mom yet,' asked another user. Another one wrote, 'I would send myself to learn how to swim.' 'So married women with kids and a family are lining up to see a swim instructor?' observed another. Another user wrote, 'Ladies, the guy is barely an adult! All I see is a minor teaching other minors how to swim.' His social media is filled with fans praising him. Earlier in July, the coach reacted to it. 'Thank you for your support. However, I ask that you respect my privacy. Please refrain from sending me personal messages,' SCMP quoted him as saying. 'Otherwise, I may have to deactivate this account, as it has started to affect my daily life,' the viral coach added.

Can you wear pyjamas to work?
One of the sleeper hits of the spring 26 season is the good-old pyjama. From Dolce & Gabbana to Dior, several fashion houses presented cotton and silk pyjamas and relaxed shirts in different colours and prints at the fashion weeks in Milan and Paris. They proposed a vibrant and playful take on bedroom-wear, with some adding classic stripes and many embellishing them with embroidery and sequins. Berlin-based brand GmbH, for instance, presented androgynous tailoring with pieces embodying pyjama-like fluid movement. Their idea was clear: Why not take sleepwear outside the bedroom and make it part of casual wear and even office wear. While this bedroom-inspired dressing style looks great on the Instagram feed, is it really possible to take it to the boardroom? Yes, with some extra effort. But don't wear the pyjamas and shirts you sleep in to breakfast meetings, lunches, and the office. They need to be wrinkle-free and crisp for the world outside the bedroom. We asked some experts to suggest ways to incorporate sleepwear-style into daywear without compromising on style and comfort. Think more on the lines of a freestyle approach to clothes that are casual, and not trendy but classic. In other words, ease meets elevated styling, says stylist Vikram Seth. 'Striped silk co-ords and relaxed robe shirts, paired with sliders, sneakers, or layered vests," he suggests. 'It's about embracing the undone yet intentional… fine tailoring in the softness of loungewear, worn with the precision of streetwear layering." Follow a similar approach for accessories like statement chains, stacks, structured totes and sleek sandals, that add polish while letting the softness of pyjamas speak of freedom and new-age leisurewear. 'This styling is for those who appreciate nonchalant elegance yet want to anchor it in practicality, blending the intimate with the urban," says Seth. "It's a luxury that whispers, not shouts, letting your individuality take centre stage while ensuring comfort never goes out of style." Beyond the office The international runway has made it clear that PJs and boxer dressing can easily be part of men's casual wear, and according to Harshad Panchal, the lead designer at the label XYXX, the trick lies in "contrast and layering. Pair bold, printed boxers with a solid oversized tee or an open shirt for a relaxed yet styled look for a match-day party or a games night in." Pyjamas can be elevated with a fitted vest, and an open Cuban shirt makes for great resort wear, he says. 'A structured jacket and minimal sneakers paired with pyjamas creates a laid-back, off-duty ensemble," Panchal adds. Manish Mishra is a Delhi-based writer and content creator.
