It will allow Jent to return to the franchise where he spent a season as a player during the 1996-97 season.
Jent took his first NBA coaching job as an assistant for the 76ers during the 2003-04 season.
He also worked for the Magic, Cavaliers, Kings, Hawks, Lakers and Ohio State Buckeyes.
Last year marked his first season in Charlotte.

Another early-season Lakers game has been leaked
The full NBA schedule for the 2025-26 season will be released this Thursday, Aug. 14. In the meantime, there have been a few leaks as far as marquee matchups that will be on the schedule. The Los Angeles Lakers will be hosting Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors in their first regular-season game, which will be on Oct. 21. Then, on Christmas Day, they will face Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets at Arena. Sean Cunningham, a reporter for KCRA, Sacramento's NBC affiliate, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the Lakers will visit the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, Oct. 26. The Kings have mostly been a bad or mediocre team for almost two decades, although they have improved over the last three seasons. They made major changes dating back to last summer, starting with their acquisition of veteran wing DeMar DeRozan and that three-team trade in February that sent De'Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs while netting them Zach LaVine. They likely won't make the playoffs or perhaps even the play-in tournament this coming season. However, with studs such as DeRozan, LaVine and Domantas Sabonis, as well as former Laker guards Malik Monk and Dennis Schroder, the Kings are a team the Lakers cannot ever take lightly.

Knicks to open Mike Brown era in heavyweight battle vs. Cavaliers
The first test is the toughest competition in the conference. The Knicks, fresh off their first conference finals in a quarter-century, open next season at home against the Cavaliers, the NBA announced Tuesday. Advertisement The contest is Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. and was announced as part of NBA's opening week on ESPN. It'll also represent the first meaningful game of Mike Brown's tenure in New York. The Knicks also face the Cavaliers on Christmas at MSG — as the only East teams playing on the holiday — with the league clearly identifying them as the cream of an otherwise weak and injury-diminished conference. 3 The Knicks and Cavaliers are projected to be two of the Eastern Conference's top teams. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST Advertisement The Cavs won 64 games last season — including all four head-to-heads with the Knicks — and return its star core of Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Darius Garland. The Knicks captured 51 games but advanced a playoff round further than Cleveland, ultimately falling in six games to the Pacers in the conference finals. Both the Pacers and Celtics would have contenders but their star players — Tyrese Haliburton and Jayson Tatum, respectively — will miss most of next season, if not all of it, after succumbing to Achilles tears. Advertisement The other top teams in the East include the Magic, Pistons and Bucks, although Milwaukee's success will assuredly hinge on Giannis Antetokounmpo's desire to stay or demand a trade. 3 Mike Brown is the Knicks' new coach. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post The Knicks, who controversially canned their successful coach Tom Thibodeau after last season, open their preseason earlier than the rest of the NBA because they're traveling to Abu Dhabi for exhibitions against the Sixers (Oct. 2 and 4). They finish the preseason at home against the Timberwolves (Oct. 9) and Wizards (Oct. 13). Advertisement It'll be part of the first training camp for Brown, the veteran head coach who was hired last month and has pushed a desire of playing a faster, more inclusive offense. For its annual MLK Day game — which takes place on Jan. 19 next year — the Knicks host the Mavericks at 5 p.m. on NBC and Peacock, the network announced . 3 The Knicks struggled vs. the Cavaliers last season. Jason Szenes / New York Post Assuming his health that day, Cooper Flagg, the ballyhooed Mavs rookie, will make his Garden debut as a pro. The full NBA schedule will be announced Thursday.
