
Lobbyists have spent over $2M on TV ads in Palm Beach hoping to catch Trump's attention at Mar-a-Lago
The president is known to be an avid television watcher, both at home at his Mar-a-Lago residence and during trips to his multiple golf clubs for tournaments.
Analysis of advertising data from AdImpact showed the immense amount of cash being focussed on advertising in West Palm Beach, with the Wall Street Journal reporting that the strategy is often referred to by interest groups as targeting an 'audience of one.'
A total of $3.1 million had been spent in the market in the first four months of 2025, compared to $629,000 in the same timeframe in 2023 and $183,000 in 2021, according to the data.
AdImpact notes that cable makes up 69 percent of the spending (just over $2 million), likely targeting the local Fox News cable networks – the president's favored outlet.
Both the Journal and Palm Beach Post cite commercials, including one which includes a clip of the president promising cures to cancer and Alzheimer's disease. The ad is produced by a group with ties to the pharmaceutical industry that are trying to lobby Trump to overturn pricing policy implemented by the Biden administration.
Another, produced by the Alliance for Automotive Innovation – noted to be one of the top advertisers in West Palm Beach – is more direct. 'Mr President. Together we can drive innovation and American manufacturing. Let's do it,' the ad reads.
John Bozzella, the president of the AAI, told the Journal that the commercial was really 'intended to reintroduce the new administration to the country's largest manufacturing sector.'
On a wider scale, WSJ analysis also showed that since Trump's return to the Oval Office in January, more than a dozen groups pushing national issues had bought broadcast and cable ads only in Washington, D.C., and West Palm Beach, according to AdImpact.
The data shows that overall spending on Fox News has surged in 2025, as advertisers hope to reach Trump's eyes on the network. Through April, Fox News has seen $19.0 million in national spending, representing 69 percent of all national network spending.
The surge in activity in the West Palm Beach market since the president's return to office means that the area now ranks third among national-issue advertising markets, ahead of much larger metro-centers such as Los Angeles, Dallas and Chicago.
By contrast, before Trump's return and during the 2024 presidential election, West Palm Beach ranked 40th on the list of areas targeted for national issues-based advertising.

Maxwell was recently moved from a federal prison in Tallahassee, Florida, to a minimum security prison in southeast Texas called Federal Prison Camp Bryan. FPC Bryan has increased security measures in response to Maxwell's transfer, NBC News reported Wednesday, citing a senior law enforcement official. Two prison employees told the outlet members of the federal Bureau of Prisons' Special Operations Response Team have been positioned outside FPC Bryan's front entrance since the weekend. The special ops crew is there to check people's IDs and wave them through, the employees reportedly said. It's unclear if Maxwell has received any direct threats since her move. The Independent has reached out to the Bureau of Prisons to confirm the reporting, and Maxwell's lawyer, David Oskar Markus, to ask about her security at the new prison. Epstein and Maxwell's names have once again made headlines after the Justice Department and FBI released a memo in early July stating there was no so-called client list of powerful people who may have partaken in Epstein's crimes; Epstein did, in fact, die by suicide, and 'no further disclosure [of information regarding Epstein] would be appropriate or warranted.' The memo sparked backlash, notably from Trump's own base, as it left many unanswered questions and concerns the government may be covering up materials that would be of interest to the public. Amid the Epstein files drama, Trump enlisted the Justice Department to ask the courts for grand jury testimonies in the cases against Epstein and Maxwell and to interview the disgraced socialite. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche met with Maxwell in Florida last month for two days, during which, according to Markus, 'She was asked about maybe about 100 different people. She answered questions about everybody and she didn't hold anything back.' Maxwell's transfer to FPC Bryan came shortly after she met with the Justice Department. Experts said she got 'special preference' with the move. 'Someone gave special preference to Maxwell that, to my knowledge, no other inmate currently in the Federal Bureau of Prisons has received,' Robert Hood, a former warden of the Florence 'supermax' prison in Colorado, told the Washington Post in an article published Tuesday. When asked if he'd personally approved the transfer, Trump said Tuesday, 'I didn't know about it at all. I read about it just like you did.'

Trump plans 100% tariff on computer chips, unless companies build in U.S.
President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he will impose a 100% tariff on computer chips, raising the specter of higher prices for electronics, autos, household appliances and other essential products dependent on the processors powering the digital age. 'We'll be putting a tariff of approximately 100% on chips and semiconductors,' Trump said in the Oval Office while meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook. "But if you're building in the United States of America, there's no charge." The announcement came more than three months after Trump temporarily exempted most electronics from his administration's most onerous tariffs. The Republican president said companies that make computer chips in the U.S. would be spared the import tax. During the COVID-19 pandemic, a shortage of computer chips increased the price of autos and contributed to higher inflation. Investors seemed to interpret the potential tariff exemptions as a positive for Apple and other major tech companies that have been making huge financial commitments to manufacture more chips and other components in the U.S.. Big Tech already has made collective commitments to invest about $1.5 trillion in the U.S. since Trump moved back into the White House in January. That figure includes a $600 billion promise from Apple after the iPhone maker boosted its commitment by tacking another $100 billion on to a previous commitment made in February. Now the question is whether the deal brokered between Cook and Trump will be enough to insulate the millions of iPhones made in China and India from the tariffs that the administration has already imposed and reduce the pressure on the company to raise prices on the new models expected to be unveiled next month. Wall Street certainly seems to think so. After Apple's stock price gained 5% in Wednesday regular trading sessions, the shares rose by another 3% in extended trading after Trump announced some tech companies won't be hit with the latest tariffs while Cook stood alongside him. The shares of AI chipmaker Nvidia, which also has recently made big commitments to the U.S., rose slightly in extended trading to add to the $1 trillion gain in market value the Silicon Valley company has made since the start of Trump's second administration. The stock price of computer chip pioneer Intel, which has fallen on hard times, also climbed in extended trading. Inquiries sent to chip makers Nvidia and Intel were not immediately answered. The chip industry's main trade group, the Semiconductor Industry Association, declined to comment on Trump's latest tariffs. Demand for computer chips has been climbing worldwide, with sales increasing 19.6% in the year-ended in June, according to the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics organization. Trump's tariff threats mark a significant break from existing plans to revive computer chip production in the U.S. that were drawn up during the administration of President Joe Biden. Since taking over from Biden, Trump has been deploying tariffs to incentivize more domestic production. Essentially, the president is betting that the threat of dramatically higher chip costs would force most companies to open factories domestically, despite the risk that tariffs could squeeze corporate profits and push up prices for mobile phones, TVs and refrigerators. Donald Trump's war on statistics is an authoritarian attack on democracy and countries like Australia should call it out
Whether it be the judicial system, universities, or health organisations, Donald Trump cannot abide by anything that does not confirm his world view. So it was not a shock when late last week he came for statistics – or, more pointedly, the person in charge of the economic statistics. On Friday, the US's Bureau of Labor Studies released the July US employment figures. They were not good. Just 73,000 non-farm jobs were added and annual employment growth was the worst it has been since the GFC years (excluding the pandemic): If the graph does not display click here In response, Trump did what any autocrat would do when told bad news: he shot the messenger – at least only figuratively. Trump argued that Erika McEntarfer, the commissioner of labor statistics, had faked bad figures purely to hurt him. And so he fired her. But this should not be dismissed as 'oh that's just Trump', nor should we just sigh and say we have been in a fact-free era for nearly a decade. Reality might be hanging on to the political debate for dear life, but this move threatens to fling it off the cliff. The BLS data is vital for understanding not just what is going on in the USA but to guide other nations – like here in Australia. For example, Australia is doing very well compared with the US. Unlike the US, our employment rate is higher now than it was before the pandemic: If the graph does not display click here These comparisons can influence future policies. For example, we did very well during the GFC; the US did not. We also did much better during the pandemic than the US. They also give insight into the future. The US is still the world's biggest economy and – as we have seen with inflation – what happens there, often happens here, in Australia: If the graph does not display click here If Trump doesn't like weak employment growth numbers, you think he'll be happy with inflation data that shows his tariffs are causing higher prices? And this is not just some academic exercise. US welfare payments are indexed to inflation, so the official data vitally affects the livelihood of many people. Trump thinks when he closes his eyes the rest of the world disappears. But not measuring inflation or unemployment or global temperatures doesn't disappear the problems. And loss of trust in official data will affect business investment decisions, borrowing costs and – as with all attacks on institutions – faith in democracy. For example, in Australia, the Australian Bureau of Statistics has revealed that in the past year the cost of living for all households except 'self-funded' retirees rose faster than did inflation: If the graph does not display click here This is not the greatest news for the Australian government – no politician likes data that says things might be worse than what they previously argued. Cost of living, unlike inflation, includes mortgage repayments. Despite falling interest rates, repaying a mortgage is still around 4.4% higher than it was a year ago, and since March 2022 mortgage repayments have accounted for nearly half of the increase in cost of living: If the graph does not display click here Does it help the Australian government for the ABS to reveal this? Not really. It could blame our Reserve Bank, but generally governments are blamed for high interest rates. It certainly doesn't help the government for the ABS to release figures that some journalist like me can use to show that the value of wages are 8.6% lower than they were in March 2021 when you use cost of living rather than CPI: If the graph does not display click here That type of information makes life hard for the government – but so it should! In a democracy you have to face your critics, argue your case and convince voters you have the best plans and way forward. Political parties are already working hard to make you question reality. But at least till now, even in the US, where Trump would like there to be a new kind of maths where prices can fall by more than 100% (1,000%, 1,100, 1,200, 1,300!!), reality has been counted and presented. The end of impartial economic data would not just be another case of Trump 'flooding the zone'. It would be a fundamental attack on democracy, designed to ensure those who are suffering from his polices are not able to demonstrate that things are worse – either for them or for the nation. They are the actions usually associated with authoritarian regimes, and we should not shy away from making that clear.
