PSL 10: Gous, Munro power Islamabad United to emphatic win over Multan Sultans
Islamabad United defeated Multan Sultans by seven wickets in the 13th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10 at the Multan Stadium on Wednesday.
Islamabad chased down a competitive total of 169 with ease to secure a commanding victory, their fifth in the tournament.
Set a target of 169 after the Sultans posted 168 for 5 in their 20 overs, Islamabad's chase was anchored by Gous, who remained not out on 80 off just 45 deliveries.
The South African wicketkeeper-batter struck six fours and five sixes in a match-winning performance that saw Islamabad reach the target in just 17.1 overs, at a run rate of 9.96.
Gous found strong support from Munro, who smashed 45 off 28 balls with five boundaries and two sixes, as the duo added 81 runs for the second wicket to set the tone for the chase.
PSL 10: Yasir, Ubaid hand Multan Sultans their first win
Earlier, Sahibzada Farhan gave Islamabad a flying start with a quickfire 22 off 13 before falling to Ubaid Shah. Mohammad Nawaz also chipped in with 21 off 19 before being dismissed by Chris Jordan. Islamabad's chase was clinical, leaving little room for error and ensuring the middle order remained largely untested.
Earlier in the evening, Multan Sultans posted a respectable 168 for 5 after opting to bat first. Usman Khan was the top scorer with an aggressive 61 off 40 balls, laced with four fours and four sixes, while skipper Mohammad Rizwan held the innings together with a more measured 36 off 37.
Yasir Khan provided an explosive start, scoring 29 off just 17 balls before falling to Mohammad Nawaz. Despite a promising foundation, Multan struggled to accelerate in the final overs, managing just 52 runs in the last seven overs.
Among Islamabad's bowlers, Jason Holder stood out with a tidy spell of 1 for 25 in four overs. Riley Meredith and Mohammad Nawaz also picked up a wicket each, while Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim helped control the middle overs. Salman Irshad proved expensive, conceding 41 from his four overs.
In contrast, Multan's bowlers struggled to contain Islamabad's aggressive batting. Michael Bracewell and Chris Jordan claimed a wicket apiece, while Ubaid Shah picked up the key scalp of Farhan.
However, Josh Little and Usama Mir were both taken apart, conceding runs at over 10 an over as Islamabad cruised to their target with nearly three overs to spare.
The result strengthens Islamabad United's position on the PSL points table, while Multan Sultans will look to regroup after a game where they posted a competitive score but failed to defend it effectively.

New Zealand name Walter as new coach in all formats
South African Rob Walter was appointed New Zealand coach in all formats on Friday in the wake of Gary Stead's decision to stand down after seven years in charge. Stead announced on Wednesday that he would be leaving the job of test coach at the end of the month, having already relinquished the short format roles in April. Walter, 49, was most recently coach of South Africa's One-day international and Twenty20 teams but knows New Zealand cricket well after stints in charge of provincial teams as well as his time overseeing a Black Caps "A" tour of India in 2022. "The Black Caps have been a successful and highly-regarded team on the world scene for some time now and it's a real privilege to be given the chance to add to that," Walter said in a New Zealand Cricket statement. "It's an amazing opportunity to work with such a talented group of players and support staff through a period of time in which so many global events, as well as massive bilateral series, will be contested." Walter, who led South Africa to the semi-finals of the 2023 World Cup and final of last year's Twenty20 World Cup, is contracted through to the end of the 2028 World Cup, which New Zealand is co-hosting with Australia. "Rob is a world-class coach with an outstanding pedigree," said NZC chief executive Scott Weenink. "His success in New Zealand's domestic game, combined with his recent achievements on the global stage with South Africa, makes him the ideal candidate to lead the Black Caps." New Zealand's next international matches come in July at the start of their tour of Zimbabwe, where they will play two tests and a Twenty20 tri-series also involving South Africa.

UK visa issues rule Hosein out of West Indies' T20 opener in England
West Indies' left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein has been ruled out of the opening match of their three-match Twenty20 series against England after he and fellow Trinidadian Jyd Goolie were unable to meet visa requirements. The first T20 match takes place at the Riverside Ground in Durham on Friday and the players could potentially miss the entire series. West Indies Cricket (CWI) said on Friday that the updated UK visa entry requirements for Trinidad and Tobago citizens, which came into effect on April 23 and May 12 required both players to submit visa applications and attend mandatory in-person appointments. CWI director Miles Bascombe explained that Hosein, who was selected for both the England and Ireland legs of the tour, could not fulfil the new visa requirements in time as he was playing in the Pakistan Super League, which wrapped up late due to the India-Pakistan conflict last month. Goolie, who was a late addition to the squad, 'was unable to secure the required visa waiver, as the transition period for Trinidad and Tobago residents had already expired.' 'These processes are ultimately governed by UK immigration authorities and remain outside of CWI's control,' the board said. 'CWI remains optimistic that the matter will be resolved in the coming days, allowing Hosein to join the squad for the remaining matches.'
