BJP misusing ED in National Herald case: Former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot
'People understand everything, there's no point in these things. Ever since these people came to power, they have been talking about a Congress-free country, an opposition-free country, and you know what they say about the Gandhi family...the family whose sacrifice and martyrdom is written in history...Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru handed over Anand Bhavan to the government, which was a property worth crores. He dedicated it to the country, and they are accusing that family...you see how these people misuse the ED...there has not been a transaction of even a single rupee, yet they are targeting Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi...,' Gehlot told ANI.
He further said that National Herald was started by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru and the newspaper played an important role in the freedom movement.
'If the Congress wants to revive the newspaper, then what is the BJP's problem. When there is no money laundering, then how can Congress leaders be targeted?' he added.
Earlier, Gehlot, during the press conference, expressed deep concern over the political atmosphere in the country, alleging misuse of central investigative agencies and calling the current government 'fascist' in nature.
'The situation in the country is not normal. It's difficult to say in which direction India is heading. During the Congress rule, democracy was always strengthened. But now the central government sees opposition parties as enemies,' said Ashok Gehlot.
He accused the Modi government of weaponizing institutions like the ED, CBI, and Income Tax Department to target opposition leaders while giving a clean chit to those aligned with the ruling party. 'ED has created an atmosphere of fear. All corrupt people are being washed clean in the BJP's washing machine,' he said, in a sharp jibe at the ruling party.
The press conference, held at the Himachal Pradesh Congress headquarters, saw the presence of multiple dignitaries, including AICC national spokesperson and Theog MLA Kuldeep Singh Rathore, Cabinet Minister Anirudh Singh, former minister Asha Kumari, MLA Vivek Sharma, Congress co-incharge Chetan Chauhan, and former minister Ram Lal Thakur. High command says don't, but Congress leaders can't zip it on Chief Minister chatter
The speculation surrounding the leadership dynamics within the Karnataka Congress shows no sign of abating, as party leaders continue to issue conflicting public statements on whether Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will serve the full five-year July 13, Karnataka Minister KN Rajanna asserted that Siddaramaiah would indeed continue as Chief Minister for the entire tenure. 'Yes, Siddaramaiah will be Chief Minister for five years. If change is there, only the high command and MLAs can do (it). I think both are not ready to change now,' he added that it would be premature to decide on the leadership for the 2028 election cycle. 'Can anyone do an election without him (Siddaramaiah) in the Congress party? 2028 MLAs will decide who'll be Chief Minister. It won't be decided now. All leaders including Siddaramaiah must be included for the next election. MLAs will then decide.' Rajanna also remarked that Siddaramaiah is unlikely to take up a national post in Delhi, noting, 'Siddaramaiah will never go to Delhi, he doesn't know Hindi either.'On Monday (July 14), Congress MLA from Mandya, Ravi Kumar Ganiga, offered a counter to the narrative by expressing support for Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's future elevation. 'DK Shivakumar will become Chief Minister when the time comes,' he said.'138 MLAs support both DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah. When the time is right, DK Shivakumar too will become Chief Minister. When time and circumstance align, good things will happen. He definitely deserves to become Chief Minister, and he will become Chief Minister.'Ganiga dismissed Opposition attacks, stating, 'While BJP state chief (BY) Vijayendra calls it a revolt, we believe in the mantra of peace. We will not respond to the opposition's remarks. This is a matter left to the high command's decision.' Reiterating party unity, he said: 'Both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister have made their stance clear. All MLAs stand with both leaders. When the time comes, DK Shivakumar will become the Chief Minister.'Meanwhile, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge distinguished the party high command from individual leader remarks and called for internal discipline. Responding to KN Rajanna's comments, he said, 'The High Command does not function based on the whims and fancies of any individual leader. They follow a proper process, they come, evaluate the party, assess the performance of office-bearers and the government. So, it doesn't matter what I or anyone else personally thinks.'Kharge emphasised that public remarks serve little purpose. 'If anyone wants to say something, they should say it in the right forum. Coming to the media and making statements has no value, it's nothing but nuisance value.'- Ends IN THIS STORY#Karnataka

Foreign nationals in Bihar electoral roll: Tejashwi shifts blame to PM Modi and CM Nitish; claims BJP enabled illegal entry
NEW DELHI: A day after calling the Election Commission 's claim of coming across illegal immigrants during the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar as "bogus," Rashtriya Janata Party leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday blamed the Centre for enabling foreign citizens to enter the Indian states by crossing borders. In a social media post on X, Tejashwi said that responsibility for the security of the country and the state lies with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Nitish Kumar. "For 20 years in Bihar and 11 years at the Centre, the BJP-NDA government has been in power. If any foreign citizen has entered our borders, the ones responsible are Prime Minister Modi ji, home minister Shri Amit Shah ji, and chief minister Nitish Kumar ji. Because the responsibility for the security of the country and the state lies with them," Tejashwi said. "Is it with the strength of these foreigners that Modi ji has been winning 39 out of 40, or 33 out of 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar? Is it on the strength of these foreigners that Nitish-BJP has been entrenched in Bihar for 20 years? Bihar shares a bond of bread and kinship with Nepal. Bihar has a 600-kilometre-long border with Nepal. Nepalese citizens serve in the Indian Army. Nepalese citizens are employed in the Bihar Military Police. With its narrow-minded approach, the Modi government is even spoiling relations with the neighbouring country of Nepal," he added. This comes a day after sources claimed that field-level officials of the Election Commission (EC) have identified "a large number" of individuals from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar during ongoing house-to-house verification for the revision of the voters' list in Bihar. The EC has made it clear that the names of illegal migrants will not be included in the final electoral roll, which is set to be published on September 30. A proper verification process will begin after August 1 to determine the citizenship status of those flagged. The poll body is expected to expand this Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise nationwide to remove illegal migrants from electoral rolls by verifying individuals' place of birth. The drive takes on added importance as Bihar heads to polls later this year, with state elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal due in 2026. The revision is part of a wider crackdown on illegal immigration, particularly targeting those from Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Uproar in Chhattisgarh assembly over RI exam anomalies; Congress demands CBI probe, walks out
Chhattisgarh Assembly RAIPUR: Raipur: Opposition Congress staged a walkout in the Chhattisgarh Assembly on the first day of monsoon session on Monday, over alleged irregularities in the RI examination and demanded a CBI probe into the matter. Replying to the question raised during the Question Hour, revenue minister Tankram Verma admitted anomalies and informed that the case is with EOW, assuring strict action against the guilty before the next session. The Monsoon Session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly began with uproar during the Question Hour over alleged irregularities in the departmental examination for Revenue Inspectors (RI). BJP MLA Rajesh Munat raised the issue, claiming it occurred under the previous Congress government, while the Opposition countered that the exam took place under the current BJP administration in January 2024. Congress MLA and former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel demanded a CBI probe. Revenue Minister Tankram Verma acknowledged the irregularities and said a five-member committee had confirmed it. He informed that the case has been handed over to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for a detailed probe and promised action before the next Assembly session. Heated exchanges between ruling and opposition members over responsibility and delay in action led to a walkout by Opposition MLAs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Flensburg: GEERS sucht 700 Testhörer für Hörgeräte ohne Zuzahlung GEERS Undo Further, BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar questioned the decision to transfer the probe to the EOW, to which Verma replied that the department itself referred the matter. Earlier, BJP MLA Munat raised the issue, asking the Minister about the status of the Home Department's inquiry, when action would be taken against the culprits, and the total number of candidates who appeared for the examination. The Revenue Minister stated that the recruitment would provide necessary staff to the Revenue Department, streamlining its operations. He mentioned that the examination process began in September-October, 2024 during the previous government's tenure. However, complaints surfaced after the results were declared in February 2024 . A five-member team investigated the matter and found irregularities. The Minister informed the Assembly that even siblings were found seated together in the examination. The General Administration Department had written to the Home Department for an inquiry, which in turn responded that the concerned department was competent to handle the matter. The case has now been handed over to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) as part of govt's stand on 'zero' tolerance policy on corruption, and an investigation has commenced. Verma affirmed that no one would be spared, and action would be taken against those found guilty, similar to the ongoing inquiry into irregularities in the Bharatmala project. Munat highlighted that the examination was conducted barely a week after the Minister took charge of the department. He questioned why no action was taken despite the investigation by a team of five senior officers confirming irregularities. Verma responded that the inquiry committee concluded that the presented documents did not fall under the category of evidence and the EOW is currently investigating. Munat then accused the Minister of selectively reading the report and offered to table it in the Assembly, alleging that these were all scams from the previous government, including the Public Service Commission. Verma reiterated that stringent action would be taken against anyone found guilty. Munat pressed further, asking if action would be completed before the next session, to which Verma replied that efforts would be made to complete the inquiry and take action before the next session. BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar questioned who decided to hand over the inquiry to the EOW. Tankram Verma clarified that the department itself referred the matter to the EOW for investigation. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel inquired whether the examination took place before or after the current government came to power. Verma confirmed that the examination was held in January 2024 and the results were declared in February. This response led to a strong protest in the Assembly, with opposition MLAs accusing the BJP government of irregularities. Baghel alleged attempts to shield the culprits and asked if the matter would be investigated by the CBI. BJP MLA Dharamlal Kaushik retorted, asking if Baghel trusted the CBI. Following this, the Oppposition staged a walkout from the Assembly. Chandrakar also raised concerns about the recruitment process at Bastar's Shaheed Mahendra Karma University, alleging non-compliance with roster rules and arbitrary practices. Replying to the concern, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said a committee has been formed to investigate the irregularities and action would be taken after the report is submitted. Earlier, the Assembly paid tribute to former Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt and Surendra Bahadur Singh, the former king of Sakti princely state and ex-cabinet minister, following their demise.
