Report: C.J. Gardner-Johnson didn't suffer torn ACL

Yahoo7 days ago
The Texans and safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson got a scare on Thursday, when he was carted off at a training-camp practice at The Greenbrier in West Virginia. For now, the news is good.
Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Gardner-Johnson did not suffer a torn ACL.
He'll undergo more tests, but he has passed the most important one.
Gardner-Johnson, who won a Super Bowl with the Eagles in February, was traded to the Texans in the offseason.
He claimed last month that the Eagles traded him because they're scared of a competitor.

FOX Sports' Joel Klatt breaks down expectations for Colorado football in 2025

The Colorado Buffaloes have improved in back-to-back seasons under head coach Deion Sanders and almost appeared in the College Football Playoff last year. Although Colorado lost a fair amount of their offensive talent, including the likes of Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, to the NFL, Colorado and Coach Prime still expect to compete this upcoming season. Many college football fans and analysts have written off Colorado for the 2025 season, citing that the Buffs lost too much talent. FOX Sports analyst and former Colorado quarterback broke down what he expects from this year's Buffaloes team and if a potential playoff run could be on the horizon in Boulder. "On the field, it's been two straight years that they've improved in the win column pretty drastically," Klatt said on "The Joel Klatt Show". "They went plus-three and then plus-five in the win column the last two years. 9-4 a year ago. But, you've got to replace your quarterback, Shedeur Sanders. Coach Prime has never been the head coach of a team that didn't have Shedeur Sanders as its quarterback. How does that work out? We're not totally sure." The Big 12 has arguably some of the best overall quarterback play in any conference (the SEC might top it with more star power) heading into the 2025 season. Colorado will face some tough matchups this year, playing in a stout Big 12 conference. "You also have to replace the do-everything Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter," Klatt continued. "Do you have someone who can do that? No. Obviously not. But, I do know that Colorado has gotten better in the foundational areas of their program that those two players [Sanders and Hunter] masked the last couple of years. They got much better on the offensive and defensive line. They were first in sacks defensively a year ago, but unfortunately, they were last in sacks given up on the offensive side. I think that will improve." "There is a standard at Colorado. They've improved from 124th-ranked scoring defense in 2023 to 42nd in 2024. Rob Livingston has done an excellent job as their defensive coordinator, but they're gonna have to replace too many players. So that's why I did not pick them [as a CFP party crasher], plus they have a tough schedule." Klatt gives some tough love to his former school and believes it will be more of a rebuilding year in Boulder. Although they've gotten better elsewhere on the field, in Klatt's view, they've lost too many significant contributors at a variety of positions. Jaguars activate DT Maason Smith

Defensive tackle Maason Smith is set to start practicing with the Jaguars. Smith was placed on the physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp due to an undisclosed injury and the Jaguars announced that he has been activated on Thursday. Smith was a second-round pick last season and started five of the 11 games he played for Jacksonville. He had 17 tackles, three sacks, and three passes defensed during his rookie season. The Jaguars have Smith listed as a second-string defensive tackle on their depth chart. Arik Armstead and DaVon Hamilton are the first-teamers while Jordan Jefferson, Tyler Lacy, James Carpenter, Keivie Rose, and Eli Mostaert are also on hand.

Debutant almost outshines Roberts as Eagles soar to win

Ella Roberts lived up to her superstar status and debutant Lucia Painter produced a third quarter for the ages as West Coast defeated Gold Coast by 15 points in their AFLW season opener in Perth. Roberts was unstoppable in the first quarter of Thursday night's match, tallying 11 disposals to go with two goals to get West Coast off to a flying start. And it was the Painter show in the third quarter as the No.7 pick from last year's national draft kicked three unanswered goals to help set up the 5.5 (35) to 2.8 (20) win. Roberts finished with 24 disposals, eight marks, two goals and a goal assist, while Painter kicked 3.1 from 13 disposals. In case you forgot, Ella Roberts is SO talented 🤩#AFLWEaglesSuns — AFL Women's (@aflwomens) August 14, 2025 "It was such a good game," West Coast co-captain Charlie Thomas told Fox Sports. "I thought the girls fought it out right to the final siren. I'm super proud of everyone. "What a good start to the season." For Gold Coast, Charlie Rowbottom tallied 22 disposals, Lucy Single (17 disposals, seven tackles, 501m gained) was huge all night, while No.2 draft pick Havana Harris was impressive with one goal from 16 disposals to go with 440m gained. Harris showcased her aerial abilities with a great pack mark in the final quarter. Goal No.1 for pick No.2, Havana Harris ☀️#AFLWEaglesSuns — AFL Women's (@aflwomens) August 14, 2025 West Coast dominated the first quarter thanks to the efforts of Roberts, who kicked her first goal from a holding-the-ball free kick. She followed it up with a flying 45m shot on the run that was touched on the line, but soon had her second goal via a dribbling effort to give West Coast a 13-2 advantage at the break. The only down-side for the Eagles was a game-ending footy injury to defender Beth Schilling. Roberts was restricted to four disposals in the second quarter as the Suns clamped down on the star midfielder, with neither side able to score a goal. Gold Coast finally scored their first goal of the match early in the third term when Georgia Clayden converted her close-range set shot. The margin was just three points at the time, but Painter turned the game on its head with a three-goal burst. Her first goal came courtesy of a holding free kick, and her second was a smart left-foot snap after dropping a mark. PAINTER'S GOT THREE IN A QUARTER!#AFLWEaglesSuns — AFL Women's (@aflwomens) August 14, 2025 Painter's third goal came from a thing of beauty - a high floating mark in a pack of four players. By the time Painter had weaved her magic, Gold Coast trailed by 21 points at the final change. Harris tried her best to catapult the Suns back into the match, but West Coast's tough tackling and calmness under pressure ensured the home side got over the line.
