FOX Sports' Joel Klatt breaks down expectations for Colorado football in 2025

Yahoo2 days ago
The Colorado Buffaloes have improved in back-to-back seasons under head coach Deion Sanders and almost appeared in the College Football Playoff last year. Although Colorado lost a fair amount of their offensive talent, including the likes of Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, to the NFL, Colorado and Coach Prime still expect to compete this upcoming season.
Many college football fans and analysts have written off Colorado for the 2025 season, citing that the Buffs lost too much talent. FOX Sports analyst and former Colorado quarterback broke down what he expects from this year's Buffaloes team and if a potential playoff run could be on the horizon in Boulder.
"On the field, it's been two straight years that they've improved in the win column pretty drastically," Klatt said on "The Joel Klatt Show". "They went plus-three and then plus-five in the win column the last two years. 9-4 a year ago. But, you've got to replace your quarterback, Shedeur Sanders. Coach Prime has never been the head coach of a team that didn't have Shedeur Sanders as its quarterback. How does that work out? We're not totally sure."
The Big 12 has arguably some of the best overall quarterback play in any conference (the SEC might top it with more star power) heading into the 2025 season. Colorado will face some tough matchups this year, playing in a stout Big 12 conference.
"You also have to replace the do-everything Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter," Klatt continued. "Do you have someone who can do that? No. Obviously not. But, I do know that Colorado has gotten better in the foundational areas of their program that those two players [Sanders and Hunter] masked the last couple of years. They got much better on the offensive and defensive line. They were first in sacks defensively a year ago, but unfortunately, they were last in sacks given up on the offensive side. I think that will improve."
"There is a standard at Colorado. They've improved from 124th-ranked scoring defense in 2023 to 42nd in 2024. Rob Livingston has done an excellent job as their defensive coordinator, but they're gonna have to replace too many players. So that's why I did not pick them [as a CFP party crasher], plus they have a tough schedule."
Klatt gives some tough love to his former school and believes it will be more of a rebuilding year in Boulder. Although they've gotten better elsewhere on the field, in Klatt's view, they've lost too many significant contributors at a variety of positions.

2025 NFL preseason: How to watch the Cleveland Browns vs. Philadelphia Eagles game today

Quarterback Shedeur Sanders helped the Cleveland Browns earn their first preseason victory against the Caroline Panthers last week, but he's still proving himself to the team and as a result, he's been placed at No. 4 on the Browns' depth chart for week two. Despite the fact that fellow QBs Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel are on the injured list, Sanders has still not been confirmed to start in the Browns' Saturday game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles will be hosting the Browns for week two, kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET and the game will air on the NFL Network. How to watch Liberty vs. Lynx: WNBA's best square off for third time this season

It's another WNBA Finals rematch on Saturday as the Minnesota Lynx (27-5) host the New York Liberty (21-12) in a matchup of two of the best teams in the league. Last weekend, the Lynx topped the defending champions 83-71 in New York to take the second of four regular-season games between the two squads. Minnesota did it without MVP front-runner and leading scorer Napheesa Collier, who is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game with a right ankle sprain. How to watch New York Liberty at Minnesota Lynx Venue: Target Center — Minneapolis Time: 2 p.m. ET, Saturday TV: CBS Streaming: Fubo (Save $30) Watching in person? Get tickets on StubHub. Live coverage is also available on Paramount+. The Lynx, who have been without Collier since she was injured on Aug. 2, have not played since last Sunday's win. The Liberty, on the other hand, have played twice, splitting two road games against the Los Angeles Sparks (a 105-97 win) and Las Vegas Aces (a 83-77 loss). New York will also be without superstar Breanna Stewart as she continues to recover from a knee injury. Fortunately, the Liberty still have their top scorer, Sabrina Ionescu (19.3 points per game), to pick up the slack. Ionescu, who led the conference in scoring (21.4) and assists (6.6) in July, was named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for her efforts. After Saturday, the 2024 WNBA finalists square off one more time this regular season on Tuesday, Aug. 19, in New York. With about one month left in the season, the Lynx and Liberty both look to finish strong and secure optimal playoff seeding. Minnesota is 6.5 games ahead of the Liberty for the best record in the WNBA. The Atlanta Dream (21-12) are also hanging around near the top of the league standings.
