But I can reveal that after its debut series, which got a very lukewarm response, there will be no return for Dope Girls.
A TV insider said: "There was quite a lot of shock among viewers about the content of the show, and critics weren't exactly glowing either.
"Despite that the writers of the drama had left a few storyline strands untied which could have easily led onto a second season.."
A spokesman for the show today said: 'Dope Girls was a bold and groundbreaking series - which we are very proud of - but we can confirm that it will not return.'
Dope Girls was set in the 1920s when women were increasingly gaining their independence following the end of World War One.
That saw many go into the underworld of Soho in London where there was a boom in underground clubs where people would take drugs and have sex freely.
They were considered the original "ladettes" and gained huge notoriety.
Dope Girls had very strong echoes of the story of female 'gangster' Kate Meyrick - except the BBC drama's lead character was Kate Galloway and the corporation insisted any similarities between the two were coincidental.
But the resemblance didn't end with the leading lady.
Her co-stars also had similar names to real life figures from the twenties, and many of the settings were the same, or similar.

The fact that it was believed by many to be based on a true story of bygone gangland culture had some hoping it might have been the new Peaky.
But as I exclusively revealed earlier this year, a new series of STEVEN KNIGHT's classic is now in the works and is expected to air next year.
Perhaps the Brummie boys have helped seal the fate of the Dope Girls.

Ian believes that bringing back iconic duos would be a hit. "There's a lot of couples that could possibly come back and yeah, an all-stars would be a great thing to do I think." Despite recent controversies surrounding the show, such as the grievances expressed by Sherlock star Amanda Abbington regarding her professional partner Giovanni Pernice during the 2023 season, Ian remains optimistic about the future. He trusts that new safeguarding measures will mitigate similar issues. Reflecting on his own experiences, he commented, "This is an isolated case I think. In general the pros are really professional and really hard-working. In my experience, we've all worked really hard, we've all done competitions, we're all at the top of our game and that's why we're on Strictly. "Hopefully the safeguarding is in place now so that that won't happen again and I think that's the best for everybody really because it protects not only the celebrities but it protects the pros - because who's to say we won't be abused." Ian is participating in The Return of the Legends tour alongside his former Strictly colleagues Brendan Cole, James Jordan, Pasha Kovalev and Vincent Simone. He has been pleasantly surprised by the strong camaraderie they've developed despite their competitive spirits. He expressed: "That's what's been so great, we've got this really great bromance backstage. "I wasn't really sure whether we'd all be able to bond because we've all done our own shows and been very successful performing in our shows. We weren't sure whether we'd be able to get on but actually it's like a proper bromance backstage and we all love each other. We all appreciate each other. ". Gladiators star Steel launches charity in memory of son who died after 13 days
A Gladiators star has announced a fundraising challenge in honour of his son who was born prematurely and died just 13 days old. Steel, whose real name is Zack George, shared a heartbreaking insight earlier this year into his baby's premature birth at 23 weeks old. Posting on social media in April, the 35-year-old shared an image of himself and his wife Samantha in tears as they held their baby Leo inside the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The BBC star explained how Leo had three blood transfusions, collapsed lungs, a grade one and two bleed on his brain and a hole in his heart. Commenting underneath the post, he said he 'wishes he could have done more' to help him. Now, however, George has launched a fitness fundraiser called the '13 Days Fighting' Burpee Challenge to help raise money for other families enduring similar heartache. In response to the extraordinary care George and his wife received, the couple founded Leo & Friends, a baby loss awareness charity that aims to recognise and equip the NICU teams who work tirelessly to care for premature and critically ill babies. This new challenge will see George complete a mile of burpees every day for 13 consecutive days, from 18th to 30th August this year, across an array of different locations across the UK. In a statement, George and his wife said: 'Leo fought with everything he had for 13 days. This challenge is our way of turning that pain into purpose – to give Leo a lasting legacy and help other families who find themselves where we once stood.' First edition of The Hobbit sells for €49,000
A 'rare' first edition of JRR Tolkien book The Hobbit discovered during a house clearance in Bristol has sold at auction for £43,000 (€49,000). It is one of only 1,500 copies printed in September 1937, according to auction house Auctioneum, and was sold to a UK-based private collector at an auction held in Bath. Advertisement Caitlin Riley, book specialist at Auctioneum, said: 'It's the quintessential auction story. Everyone dreams of finding a rare item hidden in plain sight, and here we are. 'House clearances can be tricky, stressful and troublesome – if ever there is a good advert for our service, it's this! This could have so easily been sent to landfill or disposed of by someone who didn't realise it was there. It really is a lucky survivor! Advertisement The auction house said Priestley and Tolkien both shared mutual correspondence with author CS Lewis, as well as strong connections to the University of Oxford, meaning it is likely both men knew each other. Ms Riley said: 'To think that just a few weeks ago this book was sat undiscovered on a bookshelf in a Bristol house, and has gone on to make headlines around the world, is quite incredible. 'It's the connection to Tolkien and the important provenance that makes this book so special. It's not just any first edition; it belonged to someone who very likely called Tolkien an acquaintance.' The Hobbit, a children's fantasy novel published in 1937, follows hobbit Bilbo Baggins as he is joined by wizard Gandalf and the 13 dwarves of Thorin's Company in a bid to win their treasure from dragon Smaug.
