Qatar Tribune2 days ago
DOHA: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has announced the reopening of Al Jaidah Automotive Company after the company implemented a comprehensive set of corrective measures that met the ministry's requirements. This followed a temporary administrative closure imposed due to violations related to the unavailability of spare parts and delayed after-sales services.
In a statement, the ministry explained that the company took the initiative to implement a series of corrective measures, which included resolving all complaints related to customer service and spare parts, as well as enhancing its spare parts inventory through urgent orders worth QR1.6 million. These steps aim to reduce waiting times and improve service quality.
The statement added that the company increased the pace of supply from the manufacturer and modified its internal escalation mechanism to ensure that any delay exceeding five days is addressed. Additionally, the company has committed to paying the imposed fines, which amounted to QR180,000.
The MoCI affirmed that the company's actions reflect its commitment to rectifying its situation and responding to the Ministry's directives, contributing to an improved standard of after-sales services and reinforcing consumer confidence in the local market.
The statement emphasized the Ministry's continued oversight and inspection efforts to ensure that all commercial establishments comply with the provisions of Law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection. It urged all citizens and residents to report any violations or misconduct via the Ministry's call center at 16001 or through its official social media channels.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued Administrative Decision No. (18/2025) on Aug. 3, closing the company for 30 days, after recording 29 repeated violations of the same nature, in addition to a number of complaints submitted by consumers. These actions constituted a breach of Article (16) of Law No. (8) of 2008 and its executive regulations.

MoCI grants grace period for cars not compliant with Gulf specifications

QNA Doha The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has announced a grace period extending until December 31, 2025, to regularise the status of vehicles that do not comply with approved Gulf specifications. This grace period is part of the MoCI commitment to regulating the local market and ensuring consumer rights, in response to individuals' requests, showroom owners, and online platforms specializing in car sales. In a statement on Wednesday, the MoCI indicated that during this grace period, non-compliant vehicles may be displayed and sold via showrooms or online platforms, provided the vehicle is registered before Dec. 31, 2025. This includes both new and used vehicles. The MoCI emphasized that displaying or selling any vehicle registered after this date, without it conforming to Gulf specifications, constitutes a clear violation of the law and requires the necessary action to be taken against the violating party. This directive is based on Circular No. (02) of 2025, issued by the MoCI, which obliges providers of electronic platforms and car showrooms not to display or advertise cars that do not conform to the specifications approved in the State of Qatar. The ministry stressed the need for all relevant parties to completely cease selling, displaying, or advertising non-compliant vehicles after the deadline, and to ensure strict implementation of the circular to avoid any violations or legal repercussions. The MoCI indicated that these measures aim to create a safe and organized commercial environment and enhance trust between consumers and suppliers, urging all exhibitions and online platforms to fully adhere to the announced instructions.

MoCI shuts business establishment over consumer protection violations

QNA Doha The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has shut down a commercial establishment and its branches for a 30-day period over consumer protection violations. An MoCI statement said an administrative decision No. 22/2025 was taken against Naseem Al Fajr National Auctions for breaching Article No. (7) of Law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection and its executive regulations. The closure was based on an inspection campaign that found the establishment involved in changing the country of origin and expiration dates of food products (fish and other marine life goods). The case has been referred to the relevant security authorities. The ministry stressed that this action is part of its ongoing efforts to protect consumer rights, ensure the safety of products in the market, and enhance oversight of illegal commercial practices. It also emphasised that inspection campaigns will be intensified, and necessary measures will be taken against violators. The ministry called on all citizens and residents to report any violations or illegal practices through the call centre at 16001, or via its official accounts on social media platforms.
