Fadnavis criticises Thackeray cousins' victory rally as lacking substance, compares it to wailing of Rudali
Devendra Fadnavis
on Saturday took a swipe at the Thackeray cousins' joint rally in Mumbai earlier in the day and said instead of a triumphant rally for the Marathi language, it turned out to be a hollow speech, resembling the wailing of Rudali (woman professional mourner).
"I was told that it would be a victory speech, but there was one Rudali speech also. Instead of speaking about the Marathi language, it was Rudali mentioning how their govt was pulled down. There was no victory speech in Marathi," Fadnavis said, without taking any names, after reaching Pandharpur on the eve of Ashadhi Ekadashi. He would lead a special puja at the revered Vitthal Rakhumai temple with his wife Amruta, on behalf of state govt, on Sunday.
While the CM was in Pandharpur, MNS chief Raj Thackeray, in his speech at the victory rally in Worli with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief
Uddhav Thackeray
, sarcastically said his uncle and Sena founder late Balasaheb Thackeray could not unite him and Uddhav, but Fadnavis' governance brought them together after 18 years.

Fadnavis criticised Uddhav's party, saying it failed to deliver for Mumbai despite 25 years in power in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). "They could not do any notable work. But we changed the face of Mumbai under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi at the Centre. Under their (Uddhav Thackeray) leadership, Marathi Manoos had to leave Mumbai. But when we formed govt, we ensured that the Marathi Manoos of BDD chawl, Patra chawl and Abhyuday Nagar got rehabilitated at the same place.
Yeah public hai, sab janti hai (The public knows everything)," the CM said.
"Be it Marathi or non-Marathi people of Mumbai, they all are with us. We are proud Marathi, but at the same time, we are proud Hindus too. Our Hindutva takes everybody along," Fadnavis added.

Dalai Lama cannot decide on reincarnation, says China; India maintains neutrality
Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama (AP photo) NEW DELHI: China's ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, on Sunday said the 14th Dalai Lama has no authority to decide the continuation of the Tibetan Buddhist reincarnation system, calling it a religious practice that has existed for over 700 years and is not subject to individual discretion. "The reincarnation system of Living Buddhas in Tibetan Buddhism has existed for over 700 years,' China's Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, said in a post on X. 'Currently, there are more than 1,000 such reincarnation lineages across Tibet and Tibetan-inhabited regions of Sichuan, Yunnan, Gansu, and Qinghai," he wrote. Xu emphasised that the 14th Dalai Lama is part of a historical and religious succession and cannot unilaterally decide whether the institution should continue or end. 'The reincarnation of Dalai Lamas neither began with him nor will it end with him,' he said. 'He has no authority to abolish or continue the system,' he added. The remarks come amid renewed global attention on the issue, especially as the Dalai Lama turns 90 on July 6. The question of his succession has emerged as a sensitive geopolitical and spiritual issue, particularly in the context of China's increasing control over religious affairs in Tibet. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em Francisco Morato (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo However, the ministry of external affairs on Friday said that the government 'does not take any position' on such religious issues. 'We have seen reports relating to the statement made by His Holiness the Dalai Lama about the continuation of the Dalai Lama institution,' MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, while adding: 'Government of India does not take any position or speak on matters concerning beliefs and practices of faith and religion.' Meanwhile, union minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju , a practising Buddhist, reiterated that the decision rests solely with the Dalai Lama and traditional Buddhist customs. Speaking at birthday eve celebrations for the Tibetan spiritual leader in Dharamshala, Rijiju said, 'Dalai Lama institution is purely religious and government of India believes there should be no interference in religious matters... I would like to wish His Holiness a long life... All his devotees desire to see him healthy so that the global community can benefit from his wisdom. .. I don't want to react on the Chinese statement, but we leave everything to His Holiness.' Earlier, Rijiju had said, 'The Dalai Lama is a defining spiritual leader for Buddhists. The decision about his reincarnation should follow tradition and be made by him alone. No one else has the right.' 'The Dalai Lama is a defining spiritual leader for Buddhists,' Rijiju said on July 2. 'The decision about his reincarnation should follow tradition and be made by him alone. No one else has the right.' The 14th Dalai Lama had recently reiterated that the institution would continue and that only the Gaden Phodrang Trust would have the authority to recognise his reincarnation. China has consistently asserted that the process of selecting Tibetan Buddhist leaders must follow procedures approved by the Chinese state. In a recent statement, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said, 'Reincarnation must follow Chinese laws and religious rituals, including drawing lots from a golden urn and approval from the central government.' Mao added that while China respects religious freedom, it strictly regulates religious activities, including reincarnation processes. Meanwhile, in a sharp rebuttal, Penpa Tsering, President of the Tibetan government-in-exile, accused China of erasing Tibetan identity through 'cultural genocide.'

Ties restored after 14 years: UK resumes geopolitical relations with Syria, extends $129 million financial aid
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy met with Syria's interim president Ahmad al-Sharaa in Damascus British foreign secretary David Lammy met Syria's interim president Ahmad al‑Sharaa in Damascus on Saturday, restoring formal ties after a 14‑year rupture caused by the country's civil conflict and the long rule of the Assad family. UK has pledged a financial assistance package of £94.5 million ($129 million) which will be used for emergency relief, education and livelihood projects within Syria neighbouring states hosting Syrian refugees. Both sides described the talks as a reset. Al‑Sharaa's office said the pair reviewed bilateral relations, prospects for deeper cooperation and the latest regional and international developments, AP reported. London called the visit a signal of sustained support for Syria's post‑war transition. A statement from the British foreign office pledged help 'to rebuild the country's economy, deliver an inclusive political transition and forge a path to justice for victims of the Assad government.' It announced fresh UK funding to eliminate Assad‑era chemical weapons and supply immediate humanitarian aid aimed at shoring up Middle East security and curbing irregular migration. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why seniors are rushing to get this Internet box – here's why! Return of geopolitical ties follows April's sanction lifts on a dozen Syrian entities, including government departments and media outlets, and the earlier delisting of two dozen banks and oil firms. The détente gathers momentum from Washington as well: earlier this week, US president Donald Trump signed an executive order scrapping many American economic sanctions on Damascus. Syria's new leadership has been courting foreign investment and political recognition while grappling with a devastated economy and infrastructure after a conflict that killed an estimated half‑million people. Al‑Sharaa, whose Hayat Tahrir al‑Sham Islamist coalition toppled Bashar Assad in December, has visited several oil‑rich Arab states and France in a bid to secure reconstruction funds. Lammy also visited Beirut, where he met Lebanese president Joseph Aoun. Aoun told the visiting minister that Lebanon will raise troop numbers along its border with Israel to 10,000, insisting the only armed forces there will be the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers, a pledge aimed at calming tensions after last year's 14‑month Israel‑Hezbollah war.

Hezbollah chief says will not surrender under threat from Israel
Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem said Sunday his group would not surrender or lay down its weapons in response to Israeli threats, despite pressure on the Lebanese militants to disarm. "This threat will not make us accept surrender," Qassem said in a televised speech to thousands of his supporters in the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold, during the Shiite Muslim religious commemoration of Ashura. Lebanese leaders who took office in the aftermath of a war between Israel and Hezbollah last year have repeatedly vowed a state monopoly on bearing arms while demanding Israel comply with a November ceasefire that ended the fighting. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Unsold Container Homes in National Capital Region - Prices You Won't Believe! His speech came as US envoy Tom Barrack was expected in Beirut on Monday. Live Events Lebanese authorities are due to deliver a response to Barrack's request for Iran-backed Hezbollah to be disarmed by the end of the year, according to a Lebanese official who spoke on condition of anonymity. Lebanese authorities say they have been dismantling Hezbollah's military infrastructure in the south, near the Israeli border. Israel has continued to strike Lebanon despite the November ceasefire, claiming to hit Hezbollah targets and accusing Beirut of not doing enough to disarm the group. According to the ceasefire agreement, Hezbollah is to pull its fighters back north of the Litani river, some 30 kilometres (20 miles) from the Israeli frontier. Israel was to withdraw its troops from all of Lebanon, but has kept them deployed in five points it deemed strategic.
