Insider Links Yankees to Trade for 8-time All-Star With Full No-Trade Clause

The New York Yankees have had DJ LeMahieu playing second base and Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the hot corner on a regular basis. However, it may be time for a change.
LeMahieu has a .658 OPS and Chisholm is a better defender at second base than in the hot corner. The Yankees could upgrade their bench by moving LeMahieu out of the regular starting lineup and acquiring a starting third baseman. ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan linked the Yankees to a trade for Nolan Arenado of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Arenado started off the year strong, but now he is hitting .251 with a .718 OPS. While he is not as great as he once was, he still plays elite defense and would be an upgrade over LeMahieu offensively.

ST LOUIS, MISSOURI - AUGUST 28: Nolan Arenado #28 of the St. Louis Cardinals celebrates with teammates after hitting a walk-off single against the San Diego Padres in the tenth inning at Busch Stadium on August 28, 2024 in St Louis, Missouri. MoreArenado is arguably the best third baseman of this generation. He is an eight-time All-Star, five-time Silver Slugger, 10-time Gold Glover and six-time Platinum Glover. He has two-plus years left on his eight-year, $260 million deal.
A defense with Chisholm back at second base and Arenado manning the hot corner would be significantly better than the Yankees' current alignment. Additionally, LeMahieu would then be on the bench, giving Aaron Boone a better option than Oswald Peraza.
While a trade for Arenado may solve the Yankees' infield woes, it would not be easy to pull off. Arenado has a full no-trade clause, and the Yankees were not on his original list of teams from the offseason that he would be willing to waive the clause for.

Watch a LLWS pitcher hurl the equivalent of 107 MPH twice
Lin Chin-Tse is just 12 years old, but the pitcher for Chinese Taipei just made quite the name for himself at the 2025 Little League World Series. While throwing against Mexico this week, he reared back and threw 82 MPH twice in a row to strike out a hitter. According to ESPN's broadcast, that would be the equivalent of a 107 MPH pitch in Major League Baseball, because the distance from the mound to home in Little League is 40 feet. It's 60 feet, 6 inches for MLB. So someone did the math, and that's 107 MPH, which is WILD. Check out this serious heat: Uh, the New York Mets need some starting pitching. Can they sign him? Asking for a friend.

Cubs' No. 1 Prospect Explains 'Welcome to the League' Moment Against Blue Jays
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Not many bounces are going the Chicago Cubs' way right now, and apparently, that luck even extends to those who just joined the team. The Cubs called up their top prospect, outfielder Owen Caissie, to make his major league debut on Thursday. The 23-year-old Canadian had a homecoming of sorts, joining Chicago for its final game in a series at the Rogers Centre against the Toronto Blue Jays. With the Cubs seeking a win to salvage a series split, Caissie came up in his first plate appearance against future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer, and he did all he could do. (Photo by)Launching a line drive into the left-center field gap, Caissie thought for all the world that he had extra bases. But out of nowhere, Blue Jays left fielder Davis Schneider, a utility player not typically known for his defensive prowess, came hurtling in to make a sensational diving grab as the ball flew over his right shoulder. Caissie couldn't help but chuckle, because he'd hit the ball right on the screws. "Just hit the ball and run," Caissie said, per Keegan Matheson of "Schneider made a great play, so it was a 'welcome to the league' moment." Unfortunately for Caissie, he went on to finish the game 0-for-4, and the Cubs dropped a 2-1 decision to fall to 68-52. They're now eight games back of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. Caissie is from Burlington, Ontario, which is only about an hour drive from Rogers Centre. He was playing in front of a large group of friends and family, so large he couldn't approximate just how many there were. Now, Caissie will get his first taste of Wrigley Field, as the Cubs are set to host the Pittsburgh Pirates for a three-game series beginning Friday. Yankees Get Major Cody Bellinger Update About Looming Contract Decision
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The New York Yankees lost Juan Soto to the New York Mets in free agency, but traded for Cody Bellinger to help replace him. Bellinger has been great for the Yankees, but he may not be in the Bronx for long. His contract has a $25 million player option for next season but nothing beyond that. He has been rumored to opt out this winter, and MLB insider Jon Heyman revealed he "surely" will. Bellinger will find a better contract in free agency, and the Yankees figure to be in the mix for him. He has put together a great season, showing off his bat and versatile defense. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - AUGUST 13: Cody Bellinger #35 of the New York Yankees celebrates his third inning home run against the Minnesota Twins in the dugout with his teammates at Yankee Stadium on... NEW YORK, NEW YORK - AUGUST 13: Cody Bellinger #35 of the New York Yankees celebrates his third inning home run against the Minnesota Twins in the dugout with his teammates at Yankee Stadium on August 13, 2025 in New York City. MoreHe is slashing .270/.325/.491 with 22 home runs through 112 games. The Yankees do have Spencer Jones in Triple-A, and if Bellinger is gone, Jones could take over. However, keeping Bellinger would likely benefit the Yankees regardless of Jones' status. Bellinger is a two-time All-Star and former National League MVP. He has been a key part of the Yankees' success and has continued to play well during the team's rough stretch. Heyman also noted that the Yankees do, in fact, want to keep him, so after he opts out, the Yankees could be willing to outbid other teams. An outfield featuring Aaron Judge, Bellinger and Jones in the future could be great for the Yankees. Bellinger also gives Aaron Boone another option at first base. He should be one of the team's top priorities this winter. More MLB: Cubs Manager Craig Counsell Under Fire for Latest In-Game Decisions
