Malaysia to continue struggle for justice in Gaza
JOHOR BAHRU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia would continue to fight for justice by opposing the Israeli occupation of Gaza.
He said as a small country, Malaysia had done its best to voice the rights and liberation of the Palestinian people on the international stage.
'Indeed, in many countries people expect us to try harder. I think this is sad because it shows the hypocrisy in the world's political system which is truly shameful.
'Finally, there are efforts by European countries to block new arms sales. It's a bit late (because) 50,000 women and children have been killed, the world is in shock,' he said.
Anwar, who is also Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president, said this in his closing speech and adjourning the PKR 2024/2025 annual National Congress, which ends today.
Anwar also said PKR appreciates those who have a stance to voice justice for the fate of Palestine, including Pope Leo XIV's statement calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
'That first statement is sometimes louder than other Islamic leaders.
'So, we will continue to fight for justice and rights against colonization, including the Israeli colonization of the land of Gaza,' he said.
Anadolu Agency (AA) on May 13 reported that at least 52,908 Palestinians have been killed in the genocidal attacks launched by Israel since October 2023.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its attacks on the area.

AGC denies claims Anwar's pardon was invalid
KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) today denied that the pardon granted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was invalid. In a statement, the AGC said this was because Anwar had been granted a full pardon by the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, which convened on May 16, 2018. 'The AGC affirms that the 51st Meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya was held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 11 am at Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur. 'The meeting was chaired by His Majesty the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V, and was also attended, among others, by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself, who was the Prime Minister at the time,' the AGC stated. According to the statement, based on the advice of the Pardons Board, Sultan Muhammad V consented to the granting of a full pardon to Anwar, along with his immediate release, effective from the date of the Pardons Board meeting. The statement added that for the purpose of the meeting, the Attorney General had also provided a written opinion on the matter in accordance with Clause (9), Article 42 of the Federal Constitution for the Pardons Board's consideration. Therefore, the AGC refuted the remarks made by Dr Mahathir, in which the former Prime Minister publicly claimed that the pardon was invalid as it did not go through a proper Pardons Board proceeding. In this connection, the AGC views the matter seriously as it involves constitutional and institutional interests. 'The AGC also emphasises that any statement that could mislead the public regarding the decision of the Pardons Board is completely inappropriate,' the statement said.

Takaful Malaysia appoints Charon Mokhzani as new group chairman

Comprehensive, people-centric facilities at heart of Kota MADANI
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kota MADANI concept emphasises comprehensive and centralised basic facilities for the well-being of the people, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar said that during the presentation of the concept today, he was informed that among the planned facilities are high-rise schools, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, and financial institutions. 'In addition, a health clinic, fire station, police station and mosque will all be developed near residential areas. 'The first phase, which involves the construction of around 3,000 housing units and a high-rise school, is expected to be completed and fully operational by the end of 2027,' he said in a Facebook post today. The Prime Minister added that the design of the mosque and school would incorporate elements of local culture, in line with efforts to preserve architectural heritage. 'May all these plans proceed smoothly and be implemented in the best possible manner for the benefit of all,' he said.
