NHL trade rumors heat up as Carey Price's contract linked to potential Chicago Blackhawks deal

The Montreal Canadiens could finally be on the verge of moving Carey Price's massive contract — and the Chicago Blackhawks might be the team to make it happen. With Price's deal entering its final year and carrying a $10.5 million cap hit, a proposed trade scenario has emerged that could benefit both sides while reshaping their near-term plans.
Why the Blackhawks make sense as a landing spot for Carey Price's contract
The Blackhawks currently sit just over $6 million above the salary cap floor and are expected to move several veterans by the trade deadline. Taking on Price's contract would give them a financial cushion and strategic flexibility. Analyst Tab Bamford suggests a swap in which Chicago would receive Price's contract, along with Montreal's 2026 and 2027 first-round picks, in exchange for goaltender Laurent Brossoit, forward Lukas Reichel, and three second-round picks spread across 2026 and 2027.
For Chicago, the move would create a stockpile of draft capital — including three first-rounders in 2026 — giving them 'enough ammo to do something significant' in the future. And if the Hawks decide to make a big splash in free agency, Price's and Shea Weber's contracts could be placed on LTIR, unlocking more than $18 million in extra cap space.
What Montreal gains — and the steep price they'd pay
From Montreal's perspective, adding Brossoit would address a current depth issue behind starter Samuel Montembeault.

As Bamford bluntly put it, 'Right now, their backup is Kaapo Kahkonen — who is not good.' Brossoit's career .911 save percentage (.927 last season with Winnipeg) and Stanley Cup-winning experience with Vegas in 2023 make him an immediate upgrade.
Reichel, meanwhile, is a 23-year-old former first-round pick who hasn't found his stride in Chicago. A fresh start in Montreal could unlock his potential, especially in a system eager to develop young forwards.
The challenge for the Canadiens would be the heavy draft pick sacrifice — having already moved both 2025 first-rounders in the Noah Dobson trade, losing their '26 and '27 selections would test their long-term asset management.

Still, if Montreal believes Brossoit and Reichel can contribute immediately, and if shedding Price's cap hit accelerates their rebuild, this could be the kind of high-risk, high-reward move that changes their trajectory.

Virat's aggression, people say, is a lot. I would say if he reduces that aggression, he won't be the same player." The careers of both cricketers took different paths following the 2011 World Cup victory. Kohli made his Test debut in the West Indies series, while Sreesanth did not participate in that tour. Sreesanth's final Test appearance for India came during the fourth Test against England in 2011, while Kohli's career continued to flourish. During the interview, Sreesanth also addressed the 2008 incident involving himself and , where the latter slapped him after an IPL game in Mohali. The former pacer revealed how this incident affected his family, particularly his daughter's perception of Harbhajan Singh. Poll Do you think Virat Kohli's aggression is essential to his success as a player? Yes, it defines his playing style No, he should tone it down It doesn't matter, his skills are enough Not sure "When I told my daughter, 'This is Bhajji pa, he's played with me', she straight away said, 'No, no, I won't say hi'. I couldn't understand why. In school, there may have been the odd conversation about it." Sreesanth elaborated on his attempts to explain the situation to his daughter and his current perspective on the incident. "There are different stories doing the rounds. Then we tried explaining, but she said she still won't talk to him. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The next day, when the legends tournament was going on, we explained that he was like our elder brother. I don't think Bhajji pa did that deliberately. It happened in the spur of the moment. It was just a learning experience for both of us." The incident has since become a significant talking point in history, with Harbhajan Singh previously expressing his desire to erase that moment from his life during an episode of "Kutti Stories with Ash." Both Sreesanth and Harbhajan Singh were prominent figures in Indian cricket during their active playing days, contributing to various successes for the national team, including the 2011 World Cup victory. The 42-year-old Sreesanth's international career came to an end shortly after the 2011 World Cup, with his last ODI being the World Cup final and his final Test match coming against England later that year. Throughout the interview, Sreesanth maintained a reflective stance on his career and experiences, indicating that he wouldn't change anything about his journey in cricket, despite the various challenges and controversies he faced. The conversation highlighted the complex dynamics of professional cricket, from on-field aggression to personal relationships between players, and how these aspects continue to influence their lives even after their playing careers.

Michael Porter Jr draws Kanye West comparison from ex-NBA player over outspoken personal interviews

Michael Porter Jr. Image via: Ron Chenoy/ Imagn Images Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. has made headlines this summer for reasons that have little to do with basketball. After his move from the Denver Nuggets, Porter Jr. has been unusually candid in interviews, offering blunt takes on topics ranging from dating in the league to sports gambling and the education system. His recent interview discussing his dating life and association with women has now earned him a comparison to one of pop culture's most unapologetic figures, Kanye West . Former NBA star Evan Turner instantly compared Michael to West. Michael Porter Jr gets a Kanye West comparison from Evan Turner It was former NBA player Evan Turner who made the connection, posting on social media, 'Putting a microphone in front of MPJ is like putting one in front of 'YE. Y'all need to stop.' Kanye West's interviews are notorious for their unrestrained honesty, and Turner's comment suggested Porter shares that same 'say anything' energy. — thekidet (@thekidet) Turner isn't alone in his criticism. Channing Frye, another former player, has publicly said Porter's PR team should pull him back from the media circuit altogether. On the One Night with Steiny podcast, Porter suggested the NBA's gambling landscape made it possible for players to tank games for personal gain. He also discussed his brother Jontay Porter's betting scandal, framing it as a product of financial desperation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mountain Gear for Extreme Conditions Trek Kit India Learn More Undo In another interview, he declared he wouldn't send his children to public school, quipping that they might 'come home identifying as a cat.' Perhaps most divisive were his dating remarks. Porter openly stated he avoids dating women with past relationships in the NBA, explaining, 'If she's ever been with somebody that I know I'm cool with, I'm not about to ever wife you… I'm not trying to be on the court, and I give you a bucket or something, and you're talking about 'that's why I hit your girl.'' Michael Porter Jr is set for his brand new season with the Brooklyn Nets While Porter's bluntness has sparked debate, his basketball responsibilities are about to grow. After averaging 18.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists last season as Denver's third scoring option, he now steps into a lead role with the Nets. Brooklyn is counting on him to anchor their offense and potentially contend for a scoring title if he stays focused. But with media attention increasingly centered on his off-court statements, there's a looming question of whether his performance will match his confidence.
