HC expresses concern over delay in West Delhi mall fraud probe, seeks status report
During the hearing on May 28, the bench, led by Justice Shailender Kaur, voiced concern over the prolonged delay in granting the necessary sanction and directed the authority to provide a detailed explanation within six weeks.
The court acknowledged submissions from the Anti-Corruption Branch, which indicated that, despite multiple communications, approval to proceed against key public officials had not yet been granted.
According to the petition, the case involves allegations of irregularities amounting to Rs 200 crore related to the commercial use of a mall property originally leased to SS Con-Build Private Limited.
The plea further stated that despite the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) terminating the lease in January 2020 due to unpaid dues, reports suggest that commercial operations continued through the use of forged documents, shell companies, and alleged collusion of government officials.
Senior Advocate Vikas Pahwa, along with Advocates Gaurav Gupta and Thakur Ankit Singh, represented the petitioner. The court has scheduled the matter for further hearing in August 2025.
A coordinating bench of the Delhi High Court has recently issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding a petition alleging large-scale corruption involving senior government officials and real estate developers in a multi-crore land scam.
The petition was filed by a former director of SS Con Build Pvt Ltd, who claims to have been wrongfully removed from the company through fraudulent means. Justice Girish Kathpalia, after considering the arguments presented, directed the CBI to respond to the allegations. (ANI)

Illegal constructions case: ED arrests former civic chief of Vasai-Virar, 3 others
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday arrested four people, including former Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anil Kumar Pawar, in connection with a case over illegal constructions. The four accused — others are Deputy Director of Urban Planning (suspended) YS Reddy, former corporator and construction businessman Sitaram Gupta and one Arun Gupta — will be produced before the PMLA court on Thursday, an official said. The ED had raided 12 places including Pawar's residence, in Vasai-Virar, Mumbai, Pune and Nashik in connection with the case. During the raids, cash worth Rs 1.33 crore was seized from the house of Pawar's relative in Nashik. Apart from this, sources informed that property documents were also seized in this operation. Information about unaccounted assets related to Pawar has been found in the raids in Nashik and Pune, an official said. During the raids conducted at the premises of Reddy, Rs 8.6 crore cash and diamond jewellery and gold worth Rs 23.25 crore were seized. Along with this, several incriminating documents were also seized. The ED had started the investigation in this case based on various cases filed by the Mira-Bhayander Police Commissionerate. The case relates to 41 residential and commercial buildings that were illegally constructed on an area of about 60 acres. For this, the accused builders and local brokers had allegedly prepared fake approval documents. Through this, a large number of flats were sold by gaining the trust of the buyers. The Bombay High Court had ordered the demolition of 41 illegal buildings within the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation limits on July 8, 2024. Against this, the residents had filed a special permission petition in the Supreme Court, but it was rejected. After that, on February 20, 2025, the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation took action against all 41 buildings. The ED investigation revealed that the then Commissioner, Deputy Director of Urban Planning, junior engineers, architects, chartered accountants (CAs) and intermediaries of the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation were involved in illegal construction in an organised manner. According to an official, after the appointment of Anil Pawar, a bribe of Rs 20-25 per sq ft was fixed for the commissioner and Rs 10 per sq ft for deputy director of Urban Planning Reddy. The ED had also recently questioned Pawar and his wife in the case.

They Lack 'Expertise' In Handling India: Expert On US' Op Sindoor Response
The way the US treated India at the end of Operation Sindoor shows a lack of expertise on their part in terms of understanding how to act towards India, Max Abrahms, an international security professor and author on terrorist dynamics said. In an interview with ANI, Abrahms said that India does not feel respected by the US in its treatment, "Pakistan became very vocally supportive of the US role and recommended a Nobel Prize for Trump, whereas India really chipped at the level of US involvement and especially Trump claiming so much credit for the course of the short war." He explained how even though India is the largest democracy in the world, with the largest population and will soon be the third largest economy, the Trump administration does not regard India as a "fully independent country on the world stage". He also said that because of how the US is treating India, it seems like it does not fully appreciate its contributions. "I cannot really say with any level of confidence exactly what the Trump administration's role was", Abrahms said regarding Trump's claim of being involved in stopping the conflict between the two South-Asian nations. He stated that India-US relations are dependent on the US-Russia meeting, as Russian oil is the major bone of contention between US and India, adding, "We need to be a little bit patient in terms of the meetings between Trump and Putin". Highlighting how important it is for the US to mend its relations in the Indo-Pacific in order to control China, he said, "But you know the China threat isn't going away and the United States, especially under this administration, sees China as a threat that needs to be contained. And that is going to require the US to mend relations with allies in the Indo-Pacific region", adding that this aspect makes him "optimistic" about moving forward. He pointed out that the US cannot become isolated or have asymmetrical trade relations with other countries as we live in a globalised world. He said, "If something's bad for the Indian economy, it's also not good for the US economy" and noted that it is in the US interest for the Indian economy to grow. Warning about how "dangerous" Trump's 'America First' policy is, he said, "That's a dangerous path to go down. It can have not just a negative effect on the financial system, but also in terms of military ties."

Rajasthan ACB arrests assistant accounts officer, middleman on bribery charge
Jaipur, Aug 13 (PTI) Rajasthan's Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested an assistant accounts officer and a middleman in Sikar for allegedly accepting bribes to clear pending bills for construction work at a government school in Sikar. The ADG of the bureau, Smita Srivastava, said its Jaipur Rural unit acted on a complaint that officials of the additional district project office, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, were demanding bribes to clear pending Rs 27 lakh bills for the construction of rooms at the school. According to the complaint, Assistant Engineer Khumaram demanded Rs 60,000, while Assistant Accounts Officer Ramchandra demanded Rs 45,000 to pass the bills, the ADG said. Following an investigation, a trap was laid and Khumaram's alleged middleman Kamal Kumar Kumawat was caught taking Rs 60,000 while Ramchandra was caught accepting Rs 40,000, the officer said, adding that Khumaram has managed to flee.
