'Typical that there is instant judgement' on Gyokeres

BBC News6 hours ago
Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton believes those questioning whether Viktor Gyokeres can make the step up after playing 60 minutes in the Premier League are wrong to do so."It's just typical isn't in that there is instant judgement and people are making their minds up on him after an hour," said Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club. "When players move to a new club, some fit in better than others, but it takes them all a time to settle in. "In the final third, it is about combinations and understanding of others so you know how they will link up with others. "Gyokeres didn't get any service on Sunday. Bukayo Saka had a pretty poor game and Gabriel Martinelli didn't really look for him, so it is going to take time."No matter which way you want to look at the Portuguese league, his numbers were phenomenal and his finishing in the Champions League showed he is a pretty good striker."As a striker you need to get the opportunities so that understanding of one another should come the longer they train together and as the season goes on."Watch the full episode on BBC iPlayer and listen on BBC Sounds

Michelle returns. 😍 — Brighton & Hove Albion Women (@BHAFCWomen) August 19, 2025 Brighton head coach Dario Vidosic said: 'We are thrilled to welcome Michelle back for another season. We loved working with her last year, and seeing how much she progressed as part of the squad. 'What she achieved during the summer with England was incredible, but not surprising. She has the character, work ethic and relentless nature of a champion. As a club we're incredibly proud of her. 'She was a pivotal part of our record-breaking season last year and we're excited for what this new season looks like with her in our attack.' Agyemang, during her first spell with the Seagulls, was called into Sarina Wiegman's squad for the first time in April, scoring 41 seconds into her debut as a substitute against Belgium. She scored five goals in 22 appearances for Brighton across all competitions last season. Arsenal director of women's football Clare Wheatley said: 'We're so proud of Michelle's achievements this summer and throughout her journey at Arsenal, from her first steps in our academy through to our first-team squad. 'After discussing closely with Michelle and her family, we have all agreed that this move will provide Michelle with a further opportunity to develop and grow, as she continues to progress as a young player and person. 'We wish Michelle every success at Brighton and look forward to welcoming her back to Arsenal at the end of her loan.'

Man City starlet to join Bundesliga title challengers on loan

Manchester City have agreed to loan midfielder Claudio Echeverri to Bayer Leverkusen for the upcoming season. The 19-year-old Argentinian will join the 2024 Bundesliga champions to help replace Florian Wirtz, who has moved to Liverpool, as part of Erik ten Hag 's new-look team. Leverkusen will not have an option to buy Echeverri, with the player set to return to Manchester City next summer. City originally bought Echeverri from River Plate in January 2024, loaning him back to his previous club before he moved to Manchester in January this year. The loan move comes as Pep Guardiola aims to operate with a smaller squad, despite Echeverri having recently made his debut and scored his first goal for City.
