‘Private Markets New Equity': Edelweiss Mutual Fund's Radhika Gupta Highlights Investors' Shifting Risk Appetite

Edelweiss Mutual Fund MD Radhika Gupta notes a shift in investor behavior towards high-risk investments, redefining large-cap equities as stable options.
For long-term investors, the large-cap equities have remained a preferred choice due to a blend of growth and stability. However, investor behaviour is shifting dramatically with an appetite for higher risk. According to Edelweiss Mutual Fund MD and CEO Radhika Gupta, stable instruments like large-cap equities are being redefined amid a shift towards high-risk, high-reward investment avenues among investors.
'Large-cap is the new debt. Private markets are the new equity," she wrote recently.
— Radhika Gupta (@iRadhikaGupta) August 6, 2025
She added, 'An interesting quote I heard today that summarises how risk appetite has shifted upwards in the last 5 years, and some asset allocation buckets have been forgotten."
Through her post, Gupta expressed the prevailing market sentiment, highlighting a trend where investors' risk appetite has shifted towards high-return instruments, leading to a change in conventional asset allocation.
Previously, fixed-income assets like government bonds or high-grade debt instruments were seen as the safer, low-return options.
However, with the market maturing and returns across asset classes evolving, investors have started placing large-cap funds in the 'stable' bucket. Much of the aggressive play is taking place in private markets such as venture capital, private equity and unlisted debt.
'My favourite index in this Nifty500 space is Nifty500 Multicap Momentum Quality 50," said Gupta, as quoted by Business Today, elaborating on the switch while attributing the same to the expanding Nifty500-based indices. The Nifty500 Multicap Momentum Quality 50, Gupta says, offers the simplicity of multi-cap portfolios, while also adding quality mid and small caps to the mix and creating momentum.
Nifty 500 TRI, Nifty 500 Momentum 500 TRI, Nifty 500 Multicap, Momentum Quality 50 TRI, Nifty 500 Quality 50 TRI and Nifty 500 Flexicap Quality 30 TRI are the five unique indices in the category, according to Gupta. She also encouraged investors to explore the first and only index fund and ETF tracking the Nifty500, launched by Edelweiss Mutual Fund.
The performance of the large-cap mutual fund reflects well on the evolving role of the asset class. Returns over the last six months have remained modest amid global market pressures. Over one year, funds like WhiteOak Capital Large Cap Fund managed to deliver 8%, as per the Business Today report.
Over three years, ICICI Prudential and DSP Large Cap Funds have given impressive annualised returns of around 18-19 per cent, supported by smart portfolio strategies. Over the five years, Nippon India Large Cap Fund delivered a stellar 25.91 per cent CAGR, while thematic ETFs like BHARAT 22 gave over 33 per cent returns, the report added.

Apparently, none of those moves managed to successfully close above the 24670-720 band, the near-term congestion resistance; they did manage to bring the parabolic sar under the price, lending a positive bias. More importantly, the broader market has shown even better signs of resilience, having had the highest number of Nifty 500 constituents closing above the 10-day SMA since 24th July. Incidentally, Nifty had tumbled from the 25200 region on that day. This would be the objective we would be aiming for, should we clear above 24720 on Monday. The recent rally in the index was largely fueled by strong performance from SBI, even as private sector banks lagged. Accenture to buy Australian cybersecurity firm CyberCX for reported $650 million

Accenture said on Thursday it will buy Australian cybersecurity firm CyberCX in its largest-ever deal in the sector, with the Australian Financial Review valuing the transaction at more than A$1 billion ($650 million). A wave of devastating cyberattacks has battered Australia, including a 2022 breach at telecom major Optus that exposed the personal data of up to 10 million users, and a hack on health insurer Medibank affecting nearly 10 million customers. In July, Qantas Airways disclosed that criminals had infiltrated one of its call centres, accessing personal information of six million customers. Private equity firm BGH Capital, which is selling CyberCX, has not disclosed any financial terms. Accenture declined to provide additional details, while BGH Capital didn't respond to Reuters' requests for comment on the reported valuation. The deal underscores the surging demand for advanced digital security services as businesses worldwide face increasingly sophisticated cyber threats that disrupt operations and compromise sensitive data. Melbourne-based CyberCX was formed in 2019 through the merger of 12 smaller cybersecurity firms backed by BGH Capital. The company now employs about 1,400 people and runs security operations centres across Australia and New Zealand, with offices in London and New York. CyberCX is led by John Paitaridis, formerly managing director of Optus Business, and Chief Strategy Officer Alastair MacGibbon, Australia's former national cybersecurity coordinator. The leadership's ties to Optus are notable, given the telecommunications company's 2022 data breach, which exposed names, birth dates, addresses, phone numbers, email contacts and passport and driver's license numbers. Since 2015, Accenture has completed 20 security acquisitions, including recent purchases of Brazilian cyber defense firm Morphus, MNEMO Mexico and Spain-based Innotec Security. On the domestic front, the firm entered into a $700 million collaborative agreement with Telstra in February, aiming to implement AI capabilities across the telecommunications company.
