Cameron Diaz reveals shocking industry changes since her acting return

Express Tribune11-02-2025
Cameron Diaz has spoken about the significant changes in Hollywood since her 11-year retirement, crediting the #MeToo movement for reshaping industry standards.
In an interview on Netflix's SkipIntro podcast, Diaz expressed surprise at how film sets now prioritize workplace safety, particularly highlighting Netflix's misconduct hotline.
"The industry is so different," Diaz said. "I definitely have to say that #MeToo changed everything. It's palpable. You walk onto the set and it is different."
Diaz, who returned to acting in Netflix's Back in Action after last appearing in 2014's Annie, recalled past experiences where inappropriate behavior was often ignored. She noted that HR discussions about set conduct were nonexistent in her early career.
"I have never in my entire career had HR come in prior to a movie and talk about what is appropriate and what is inappropriate behavior," Diaz said. "And there's a hotline, which Netflix has, to call anonymously to report any issues. Wow, that is amazing."
Diaz, who initially retired from acting to focus on her personal life, remains undecided about her future in Hollywood. Speaking to Empire magazine, she said she's keeping her options open: "I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again, and I reserve the right to say yes."
Back in Action is now streaming on Netflix.

Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis reportedly set for November Netflix exhibition bout

A high-profile exhibition boxing match between Jake Paul and Gervonta 'Tank' Davis is reportedly in the works, with Netflix expected to broadcast the event. According to a report by Ring Magazine, the bout is slated for November 15 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia — marking exactly one year since Paul's previous Netflix headliner against Mike Tyson. Though Netflix has not yet officially confirmed the event, a now-deleted post from Netflix's Turkey account briefly listed the same details. Meanwhile, the reported venue currently shows a scheduling conflict, as it is booked for comedian Nate Bargatze's 'Big Dumb Eyes' tour on that date, Uncrowned reports. Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs), the YouTuber-turned-boxer, recently secured a unanimous decision victory over former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in June, earning his first official world ranking. Paul had previously been linked to a potential bout with former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, but negotiations reportedly fell through due to broadcast network complications. Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs), a two-division world champion, was expected to rematch Lamont Roach following a controversial draw in March. However, the rematch was shelved after Davis faced a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in July. The case was dismissed last week when the alleged victim declined to press charges. Roach, speaking to Boxing Scene, said he is "moving on" from a rematch, citing a lack of interest from Davis' camp. While Davis holds a clear edge in experience and skill, Paul will likely enter the ring with a significant size advantage — possibly over 50 pounds. Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Paul's Most Valuable Promotions, downplayed the current reports, stating, 'Amazing how 'sources' have it confirmed but have it wrong.' HBO reveals first look at new Weasley siblings for Harry Potter series

HBO's upcoming Harry Potter television series is beginning to take shape as the casting of the Weasley family has been unveiled. The network shared new images on social media introducing the actors who will bring several of the iconic red-haired siblings to life. Tristan and Gabriel Harland, twin brothers who previously appeared in Netflix's The Last Kingdom, have been cast as Fred and George Weasley. Their casting immediately drew attention, as many fans have long speculated who might take on the challenge of playing the mischievous pair. Percy Weasley will be portrayed by Ruari Spooner, known for his role in the short film Syncopation. Ginny Weasley will be played by Gracie Cochrane, who had a supporting role in Apple TV+'s Blitz. While the majority of Ron's siblings have been revealed, Charlie Weasley has yet to be announced. HBO teased the delay by joking that the dragon-loving character is 'in Romania at the moment' but will be joining soon. Fans are also waiting for news on who will portray Arthur and Bill Weasley, two characters who play key roles later in the series. Katherine Parkinson has already been confirmed to play Molly Weasley, rounding out the heart of the family. Production for the series recently began at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, the same site where blockbuster films such as Barbie and Wonka were shot. The show is expected to premiere in 2027 and run for a decade, covering all seven of J.K. Rowling's books in a more expansive format than the films starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. Rowling herself is on board as an executive producer. With the Weasley siblings now stepping into the spotlight, excitement continues to build for a series that promises to revisit Hogwarts with a new generation of actors. For many fans, this extended format could finally allow the Weasley family to shine as they did in the books.
