Lindsay Lohan On Hollywood Stereotyping And Paparazzi Trauma: ‘I Have Extreme PTSD'
Curated By : Last Updated: August 03, 2025, 11:53 IST Lindsay Lohan spoke about battling PTSD from relentless paparazzi attention. Lindsay Lohan is opening up about the long-lasting impact of fame and how Hollywood continues to limit her as an actor, despite decades in the industry. Speaking to The Times UK ahead of the release of her upcoming film Freakier Friday, the sequel to the 2003 hit Freaky Friday, the 39-year-old star spoke candidly about the pressures of fame, being stereotyped, and her decision to leave Hollywood behind for good. Lohan revealed that she still finds it difficult to land diverse roles, often being cast in similar characters despite proving her range. 'Yeah, I do think I was pigeonholed," she said, adding that working with Meryl Streep on A Prairie Home Companion once felt like a breakthrough moment. 'Which is frustrating. Because, well, you know me as this, but you also know I can do that. So let me! Give me the chance." She continued, 'I have to break that cycle and open doors to something else, leaving people no choice. And in due time, if Martin Scorsese reaches out, I'm not going to say no." After stepping away from acting in 2008 to focus on her personal life, Lohan eventually left Los Angeles altogether, relocating to Dubai in 2015. The move, she says, gave her peace away from the relentless paparazzi culture. 'I don't ever want my family to go through what I went through. I have extreme PTSD from it. It's not safe. It's not fair," she shared. On a separate talk show appearance, she explained how the Middle Eastern city gave her the freedom she needed. 'You can't take someone's photo without asking. It's just different." Besides Freakier Friday, Lohan is also set to star in and executive produce Count My Lies, an upcoming Hulu thriller. She plays a manipulative nanny at the center of a web of secrets. Lohan has also expressed a strong desire to return to classic, character-driven films. 'There are not many major movies I want to go and see that are like that — there's a gap and I'm craving to do work like that," she said. Now married to Bader Shammas, whom she met in Dubai, and mother to son Luai, Lohan says she's entering a new phase.
