248 PPP Certificates Issued For Express Buses In Sarawak
KUCHING, May 29 (Bernama) -- A total of 248 express buses operating at three main terminals in Sarawak have been issued Certificates of Completion and Compliance (PPP) by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
Sarawak JPJ Director Norizan Jili stated that this number is the result of a week-long Road Safety Advocacy and Enforcement program held in conjunction with the 2025 festive season, which concluded yesterday.
She mentioned that PPP certificates are only issued to vehicles that pass safety inspections conducted by the Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP).
"No compounds were issued following the physical inspections conducted on the vehicles," she told reporters after observing enforcement operations at Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal tonight.
Besides Kuching, other main bus terminals in Sarawak are located in Sibu and Miri.
Norizan emphasized that any bus without a PPP certificate is not allowed to operate and may face action, including vehicle detention and seizure.
"If any deficiencies are found, such as imperfect tyres, the owner must replace them first before the vehicle is permitted to operate," she said adding that the special operation involved 105 JPJ Sarawak personnel as a measure to enhance passenger safety in conjunction with the Gawai Day and Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations.
Meanwhile, an estimated 2,000 passengers use bus services daily through the Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal to various destinations across Sarawak approaching the festive season.
Earlier, Sarawak Federal Secretary Datuk Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan also joined Norizan in observing the operation.

RTD collects paltry RM56mil despite special offer on traffic summonses
KOTA BARU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has collected only a paltry RM56 million from 374,024 summonses issued under its special flat rate compound offer. The campaign, which began in January, aimed to encourage settlements by motorists who committed traffic offences. RTD senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the collection only represented around 20 per cent of the total outstanding summonses. A figure he described as still relatively low. The RM150 flat rate applies to camera-detected offences (like speeding), notices asking you to appear for questioning, and requests to confirm who was driving your vehicle during an offence. "This offer will end on June 30. "As of now, we have collected RM56 million, involving 374,024 summonses," Kifli said. He was speaking at a press conference held during the Special Motorcycle Operation in conjunction with the Aidiladha Road Safety Campaign (HRAA) along Jalan Kuala Krai here late last night. Kifli urged public not to miss the opportunity to settle their outstanding summonses at a reduced rate before the offer ends. "This initiative aims to encourage the public to clear their outstanding summonses at a lower rate. "Once the offer ends, the summonses will return to their original rates," he added.

Sabah, S'wak JPJ kiosks offer road tax renewals
PUTRAJAYA: Motor Vehicle Licence (road tax) renewals for individual private vehicles can be carried out at Road Transport Department (JPJ) kiosks in Sabah and Sarawak starting today. JPJ, in a statement, said the renewal service will be available at 41 kiosks; 21 in Sabah and 20 in Sarawak. This service, however, applies only to private vehicles registered from 2020 onwards. 'For individual private vehicles registered before 2020, owners or their representatives must go to the JPJ counters for renewal,' it said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported. In addition, renewals can also be done via the MyJPJ app, mySIKAP JPJ portal, JPJ mobile counters, and JPJ strategic partners. Vehicle owners are also advised to ensure their motor insurance coverage is valid and active before renewing their road tax at JPJ kiosks as the system will automatically verify insurance details during the transaction.
