Toronto police arrest 10 in interconnected shooting incidents; almost 90 per cent of crime guns seized US-sourced
Toronto police
made a headway in the recent cases of multiple shootings in the city arresting 10 people. Among those arrested are suspects who were allegedly involved in a pub shooting incident in which a dozen people were injured. Three of those arrested have been charged with attempted murder.
The three suspects are male youths, including two 17-year-olds and one 15-year-old; the others are between the ages of 19 and 22. The indiscriminate spate of shootings at several places in Toronto seem to be interconnected, according to the police.
The alleged incidents include one that occurred in March 2025 at the Piper Arms pub in Scarborough. A trio of masked men armed with an assault rifle and handguns fired several bullets leaving a dozen people injured. The shooting incident was caught on video.

Speaking at a press conference Wednesday (June 4), the Toronto police said that all the incidents of shooting involved hired gunmen in stolen cars, The Globe And Mail reported.
They also fired at people in tow truck yards, a gas station and a commercial plaza, Toronto police said. Police alleged that some of the incidents are linked to tow-truck turf wars, though they have not linked the Piper Arms shooting to that industry.

While addressing reporters at police headquarters, Chief Myron Demkiw said that they released the video on Wednesday of that March shooting to show the extent to which the city is facing the gun problem. He stated that gun crime 'needs to stop,' calling on the federal government to step in to help curb the violence.
'I have been in contact with the federal Minister of Public Safety, and I look forward to further discussions with him concerning public safety in Toronto,' Chief Demkiw said, according to The Globe And Mail.
203 charges laid including attempted murder, say investigators
Investigators of crime have revealed that they have laid 203 charges, including 24 counts of attempted murder while recovering four firearms in link with a spate of shooting incidents in the 2025 spring season.
Police said that the 10 suspects arrested are all tied to interconnected shootings. However, no explanation has been given by the police pertaining to how these suspects are related.
Police Superintendent Paul MacIntyre of the city's organized crime enforcement unit claimed that the alleged perpetrators behind the shooting incidents are 'a bunch of guys that are not a gang,'. He dubbed them hired gunmen. 'They're just friends, if you will. They're associates,' he said.
Chief Demkiw on Wednesday (June 4) also answered questions about an unrelated shooting in Lawrence Heights this week, where a 31-year-old man in a wheelchair lost his life, while five others were also left injured in what police said was a targeted attack. The suspects in this incident remain at large.
What do Toronto's crime statistics say
Crime statistics from Toronto police revealed that 2024 was a near-record year for incidents of shooting in the city. According to The Globe And Mail, police stated that 80 to 90 per cent of the crime guns seized in Toronto are now U.S.-sourced, up from roughly 50 per cent a decade ago.

'Corrupt and politically motivated': Trump-pardoned Proud Boys sue government for $100 million, allege persecution of political allies
5 Proud Boys sue US government over January 6 prosecutions Five leaders of the far-right Proud Boys group are suing the US government for $100 million, claiming their constitutional rights were violated during their prosecution for involvement in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. The lawsuit, filed Friday in Florida, accuses FBI agents and federal prosecutors of political bias and misconduct. The men, Henry "Enrique" Tarrio, Ethan Nordean, Joseph Biggs, Zachary Rehl, and Dominic Pezzola, argue they were targeted because of their support for US President Donald Trump. All five were convicted for plotting or participating in the riot, which aimed to block the certification of former President Joe Biden's 2020 election win. They were sentenced to prison, with Tarrio receiving 22 years, the longest sentence among them, after being found guilty of seditious conspiracy and other charges. Earlier this year, Trump pardoned or commuted the sentences of the group members, part of a wave of around 1,500 pardons he issued on Inauguration Day. "These people have been destroyed," Trump said at the time. "What they've done to these people is outrageous. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Click Here - This Might Save You From Losing Money Expertinspector Click Here Undo The lawsuit alleges 'egregious and systemic abuse of the legal system,' including claims of evidence tampering and witness intimidation. It argues their prosecution was 'corrupt and politically motivated,' aimed at punishing Trump's political allies. The suit is directed at the department of justice, now led by attorney general Pam Bondi under the Trump administration. The department has not yet commented on the case. As of January, more than 1,500 individuals have been charged in connection with the Capitol riot. Over 600 face charges for assaulting or resisting police, with many accused of using dangerous weapons. Trump has continued to defend the events of January 6, calling it a 'day of love,' while critics, including former house speaker Nancy Pelosi, have condemned the pardons as a serious blow to the justice system.

'Beaten with bats, rods, beer bottles and sticks': Civic worker assaulted over banner removal in Karnataka; 7 arrested
HAVERI: Raju Doddamani, a municipal worker, was violently assaulted inside a bar on Saturday evening. The attack, led by transgender person Akshata KC and Shantu Koravar, left Raju with severe injuries. The assailants used cricket bats during the attack. Due to the severity of his injuries, Raju was shifted to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi. Following the incident, Haveri Town Police arrested seven people after registering an FIR. The police have taken Shantappa Koravar, Arjun Koravar, Pratham, Pakiresh Koravar, Mukesh Patel, Prajwal, and Ganesh to their custody. The case is currently being investigated at the Haveri Town Police Station. According to police reports, the conflict originated from the removal of an unauthorised birthday banner following instructions from the City Municipal Council Haveri commissioner on June 7. The situation escalated when a group of transgenders and troublemakers attacked Raju and another civic worker Feerappa Shirabadagi. The disturbance increased when transgender Akshata KC entered the City Municipal Council premises partially undressed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The group also issued death threats to civic workers. Feerappa subsequently filed a complaint against the group for assault and hindering public work. In response, the primary accused, Akshata, along with 10 others, entered Lakshmi Venkateshwar Bar and attacked Raju Doddamani whilst he was drinking with friends. They assaulted him with cricket bats, rods, beer bottles, and sticks until he lost consciousness, requiring hospitalisation. The attackers recorded the assault, which later appeared on social media. The entire incident was also captured on CCTV. Municipal workers staged a protest outside Haveri Town Police Station, demanding the arrest of all perpetrators involved in the assault. The incident has raised questions about the safety of municipal workers and the need for stricter enforcement of rules regarding unauthorised public installations. "We have filed a complaint against those accused of attacking civic workers. We maintain zero tolerance for such attacks, and we have arrested seven accused already. Our police are searching for more suspects believed to be involved in this incident. We will initiate legal action against them," shared Anshu Kumar Srivastava, SP Haveri.
