
Muck, flooded depots cripple cargo at Mundra Port
Transporters and customs brokers report that waterlogging and accumulated muck rendered the ECD zones virtually inaccessible, compounding operational bottlenecks at India's largest private port.
The Kutch region received 58% of the season's total rainfall. "Several areas within the ECDs are submerged, leading to both container delays and direct cargo damage. Basic drainage infrastructure is lacking at many depots, and repeated representations to both operators and port authorities yielded no results so far.
The ECDs are not even laid with proper roads or paver blocks to make access easy," said Manoj Kotak, secretary of the Mundra Customs Brokers' Association (MCBA).
According to freight forwarders, loaded containers awaiting repositioning or customs clearance are stuck in flooded yards. "Transporters are unable to access delivery points, resulting in logistical standstills and additional financial burden for both exporters and importers.
Broken roads and bridges already made turnaround times longer and diesel costs higher," said Mukesh Dave, executive president of the Akhil Gujarat Truck Transporters' Association (AGTTA).

Mundra Port handled some 200 million metric tonnes (MMT) cargo in 2024-25, according to a statement issued by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ). By a rough distribution over 365 days of the year, roughly 6.02 lakh MT cargo is handled on a daily basis at the port.
Sources in the transport fraternity allege that the present situation also led to disputes over damage claims, as soaked and mud-laden containers await inspection and repair. Empty containers awaiting dispatch for export stuffing are reportedly lying idle in waterlogged yards, adding to exporters' woes.
The logistics sivision of the Union ministry of commerce also proposed guidelines to maintain proper infrastructure at ECDs. "ECDs are a critical part of the supply chain. Measures for standardisation of infrastructure and facilities available at the ECDs need to be taken. Transparency, registration, and minimum infrastructure norms must be enforced without delay," stated the guidelines.
Despite multiple written complaints, depot operators have yet to initiate any significant remediation, brokers said.

TOKYO (AP) — Toyota's profit plunged 37% in the April-June quarter, the company said Thursday, cutting its full year earnings forecasts largely because of President Donald Trump's tariffs. Toyota Motor Corp.'s April-June profit totaled 841 billion yen ($5.7 billion), down from 1.33 trillion yen in the same period of 2024. Quarterly sales rose 3% to 12 trillion yen ($82 billion). Toyota said the tariffs cost its quarterly operating profit 450 billion yen ($3 billion). Cost reduction efforts and the negative impact of an unfavorable exchange rate also hurt its bottom line. The company, which makes the Camry sedan and Lexus luxury models, forecast a 2.66 trillion yen ($18 billion) profit for the full fiscal year ending in March 2026, down from an earlier forecast for a 3.1 trillion yen ($21 billion) profit. Toyota earned nearly 4.8 trillion yen in the previous fiscal year. 'Despite a challenging external environment, we have continued to make comprehensive investments, as well as improvements such as increased unit sales, cost reductions and expanded value chain profits,' Toyota said in a statement that outlined its efforts to minimize the impact of the tariffs. At the retail level, Toyota sold 2.4 million vehicles globally, with sales growing in Japan, North America and Europe from the previous year, when global retail totaled 2.2 million vehicles. Offshore wind farm approval hailed as opportunity
Developers have said it is an "important moment" after a floating offshore wind project received full planning consent. White Cross, located 52km off the north Devon coast, will feature six to eight floating wind turbines, capable of powering about 135,000 homes, said developers Flotation Energy and Cobra. The decision to bring the electricity cable from the 100 megawatt project ashore at Saunton Sands sparked significant backlash over environmental damage, disruption to tourism, and increased heavy vehicle traffic. "In response to feedback, we have adapted our plans to minimise environmental and social impacts," said Sam Park, senior project manager. North Devon councillors granted consent for the onshore infrastructure in May, while the Marine Management Organisation issued a Marine Licence for offshore construction on 16 July. Mr Park said: "This is an important moment for the White Cross Offshore Windfarm, and for floating offshore wind in the Celtic Sea. "This gives us a valuable opportunity to harness pioneering technology to help deliver the energy transition in the South West." The windfarm's cables will land at Saunton Sands and run underground for five miles (8km) to a new substation near East Yelland. The company said "advanced trenchless technology" will be used to avoid surface disruption in sensitive ecological areas such as Braunton Burrows Special Area of Conservation and the Taw-Torridge Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest. Work is expected to start on the cabling in 2027 and the wind farm in 2028, according the developers.
