World Aquatics Championships 2025: Gretchen Walsh wins gold in 100m butterfly to lift illness-ridden U.S. squad
It's been a tough go for Team USA at the World Aquatics Championships, but the team won't leave the event without a gold medal. Gretchen Walsh secured the squad's first gold Monday, winning the 100m butterfly and setting a championship-record time in the process. Walsh won the event in 54.73 seconds, a championship-record time. It's the second best 100m butterfly time ever, behind only the 54.60 record Walsh set in May. It's been a battle for Team USA. A stomach bug ripped through the team at the championships. Multiple swimmers pulled out of events due to the illness, while others turned in disappointing finishes due to the bug. Walsh was among that group. She pulled out of the 4x100m relay Sunday due to illness. Walsh apparently felt good enough to compete in the 100m butterfly Monday, and said afterward that it "took a lot of guts" to make it happen. Walsh added that she wasn't sure how she pulled off such an incredible time despite dealing with the illness, saying, "That race, it came out of somewhere, I don't know what. I'm really, really happy.' Roos Vanotterdijk finished second at the event, taking home the silver. Alexandria Perkins won the bronze. The victory could be the first of many for Team USA. After some early struggles due to illness, the team finally seems to be back on the mend. Swimming runs through Sunday, Aug. 3 at the event, giving the Americans a few more days to rebound after a disappointing start. Walsh's win Monday could wind up being exactly what Team USA needs to get back on track. As the rest of the team looks to recover, Walsh still has a few opportunities to take home more gold medals. She'll also race in the 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly, and could take part in relays the rest of the week.

Professional Triathlon Organisation announces Series C funding boost
The Professional Triathletes Organisation has announced a new injection of funding to help in their mission to redefine endurance sport. The successful completion of a Series C funding round, led by SURJ Sports Investment and supported by Cordillera, Verance Capital and Sir Michael Moritz, will support the PTO's continued growth in international markets as well as building long-term athlete and fan engagement. PTO CEO Sam Renouf welcomed the news, with the hopes that further funding can also help propel their T100 Triathlon World Tour to greater heights. 'We're delighted to welcome SURJ and Verance Capital to the PTO investor family," he said. "This is a major milestone not only for us as an organisation, but for the broader vision of triathlon's future. "Our goal has always been to reimagine the sport for modern audiences and open up participation to athletes of all levels. "With new partners like SURJ and Verance, we're better equipped than ever to scale our ambitions globally. "The momentum from our record-breaking T100 Singapore event is just the beginning of what we hope to achieve in 2025 and beyond.' The Series C investment comes at a time of growth for the PTO. In 2024, the organisation launched the T100 Tour and the event has rapidly expanded in the past 18 months. With the wellbeing of professional athletes at its heart and widespread fan participation events, the T100 has attracted thousands of eyes to the endurance sport in less than two years and a new round of funding will be viewed as a critical opportunity to only further enhance it's position amongst elite sport.

Selena Gomez Celebrates 33rd Birthday with Launch of Rare Impact Fund's Giving Circle (Exclusive)
Selena Gomez is continuing to make an impact as she celebrates another year around the sun. On July 22 the Only Murders in the Building star — who turned 33 on Tuesday — marked the launch of the Rare Impact Fund's Giving Circle (in partnership with Dollar Donation Club), which was "built to democratize giving and foster purpose-driven community," according to a release. Starting at $1 a month, members can receive monthly updates from the Fund's nonprofit partners, curated mental health content and ways to engage with the Rare Impact Fund community, adds the release. "When we started the Rare Impact Fund, we wanted to build a community that could make a real difference," Gomez — who founded Rare Beauty in 2020 — tells PEOPLE exclusively in a statement. "Five years in, I'm so proud of the impact we've all made together and excited for The Giving Circle and other initiatives we are planning.' The Rare Impact Fund recently hosted its first-ever global Grantee Capacity Building Workshop, bringing together nonprofit partners for hands-on programming focused on storytelling, fundraising and more. According to Rare Beauty, the Rare Impact Fund has mobilized over $20 million and supported 30 nonprofit organizations across five continents since its inception, reaching more than 2.2 million young people annually. Last year on World Mental Health Day, Gomez opened up to PEOPLE about advocating for increased access to mental health services and education around the world for young people. "We created the Rare Impact Fund before we created a single product, and it's so rewarding to see it being a resource for people when they actually come to our community and seek help," she said. "I'm just really grateful. This is why I do it." Read the original article on People
